We were contacted and gave the homeowner an estimate. In this particular situation the word estimate is keyMy written estimate included allowances in two areasOne being the door and the other being the anchoring of the brick facade to the structureThose allowances were used on the work
performed and that was approved by both the client and his wifeWe were then paid in for for our workIt was clearly explained to the client that the header still needed to be inspected and possibly replaced but that would require more funds. The client then explained he planned to remodel his kitchen and would address it at that time to minimize living in a partially demoed kitchenI then was asked to give them an estimate for the kitchen remodel which we did provideI did not hear another word until almost a year later (months)A Wauwatosa building inspector copied me on an email telling Rob to stop all work until he provided the required informationI immediately called the inspector and was told I was listed by the homeowner as his general contractor for some interior remodelTo my knowledge the homeowner hired an unlicensed contractor to work on his home and when discovered by the city he tried to use my credentials without my consent to get his project approvedI tired to work with both the homeowner and the building inspector to find a reasonable solution which we did not come to terms onHomeowner then stated that under legal advise " I should replace his header", which I replied with " please put your legal counsel in contact with me and that I would be happy to provide the documentation I have." To this day I have not been contacted.
