My husband and I reluctantly began a year contract with World Champion Taekwondo on 6/10/14 for our 5 year old daughter. We thought it would be a great opportunity for her to learn. Upon beginning this contract we asked the staff if we could do a month to month contract, because we were worried about committing a 5 year old to something so long and we were told "no it teaches children discipline and follow through with something they have committed to." We were also told that our child would go from "pee wee level" to the next level probably within "the next two weeks or 1 month." That did not happen. As we continued to bring our daughter for the next few weeks, she continued to display anxiety and sit in class and either cry/not participate. We shared our concerns with management & owner who kept telling us that they could offer private lessons or that our daughter would catch on. That did not happen. We had to leave class one day when she developed a rash and went straight to the doctor. My husband and I continually have asked for the contract to be cancelled and finally after I approached the owner's wife, she said they would freeze the contract for 3 months. When I indicated my daughter was anxious from participating in this sport and was getting sick, there was little concern. I asked how does one get out of a contract and I was told, either a doctor's note or move away. So, we provided a doctor's note on September 4 & again September 20th. Our daughter has had to go to the Emergency Department and doctor's office several times each for stomach related issues/anxiety. We approached management before and after these doctor visits to indicate our concerns, with no concern for our daughter. After approaching the Owner and sharing what his wife indicated, he said "she did not work there", & I said, "so she only takes money and sits behind the desk representing the company and also can modify a contract?"
