World Class Tire Reviews (1)

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2016/08/16) */
On Tuesday evening 5/10/2016, after 5pm EST, the vehicle belonging to [redacted] 2005 Chrysler 300 Touring was towed to our shop (World Class Tire & Auto) in Fort Wayne, IN. On Wednesday morning, 5/11/16 [redacted] was contacted regarding...

the vehicle to get a complete account as to what happened to his vehicle and the description of the vehicle's symptoms. Mr. [redacted] indicated to our customer service tech that he had been driving the vehicle while being intoxicated and that he attempted to drive his vehicle under a viaduct that was flooded with water due to heavy rain & inclement weather. Mr [redacted] stated that the vehicle would no longer start and the vehicle had to be pushed out of the water. He shared that he knew that he should not have attempted to drive through the puddle and that he was concerned about his fiancé finding out that he was intoxicated while attempting to drive through flooded area. Mr. [redacted] stated that he and his fiancé would be coming to our shop later in the afternoon to sign the pre-work agreement but he also wanted to come to the shop to get the bag of (undisclosed items) evidence of his intoxication removed from the vehicle prior to him & his fiancé arriving together as she had recently spent a large amount money on getting the vehicle repaired previously and he did not want her to find out. A while after speaking with Mr. [redacted] via phone he came into the shop to get those items previously mentioned and our tech showed Mr. [redacted] the extent of his Air Filter damage as it was drenched with water from the flood. Mr. [redacted] then stated that he and his fiancé would come back together later in the day to speak with our techs. During this conversation, our tech explained that the vehicle was still extremely wet from Mr. [redacted] driving through the water and that the vehicle was not starting, so it was impossible to diagnose the extent of the damages. Our tech showed the couple the extent of the Air Filter and that the vehicle needed to dry out as it is very possible that the engine fluids could be contaminated evidenced by the state of the air filter's wetness. Upon sharing that information with Mr. [redacted], we began to explain that our protocol would be to get the car to start before we can get a true idea of the extent of the damages incurred. The protocol that was established and explained to the couple was that we would allow the vehicle to dry for an estimated 24-48 hours and then we would see if the vehicle would start so that we could Road test the vehicle to diagnose. If the vehicle did not start after allowing it to dry on its own, then we would recommend to change the filters, engine fluids, & spark plugs due to possible water contamination. We also stated that if that was unsuccessful then we would conduct an electrical system check (test the battery, the alternator, & the starter) if need be. We assured them that prior to doing anything, we would contact them prior to get their authorization. On Friday morning 5/13/16 we attempted to contact Mr. [redacted] as it is our policy to wait for customer authorization prior to completing any work, so we were awaiting a verbal confirmation from Mr. [redacted]. Moments later we received a call from the couple and spoke with the couple to get an idea of when they needed the vehicle back and we gave him an estimate on how much the services would cost and they communicated that they did not live in this city and it would be difficult to pick the vehicle up on Friday. The couple asked if we are open on Saturdays, and we told them we are closed, however we would be willing to make arrangements to accommodate them if we needed to, but the couple declined. They couple agreed that they were unable to pick up the vehicle until Wednesday 5/18/16. Based on the information given from the couple we made the decision to allow the vehicle to continue drying over the weekend. On Monday, 5/16/16 we changed the filter and the spark plugs in the engine. On Monday we also spoke with Mr. [redacted] to provide an update on his vehicle and at that time we informed him that the air filter and spark plugs had been changed and the next step in the protocol was to change his Engine fluids and filter. Due to other business customers that had appointments previously scheduled with us, we delayed further work on Mr. [redacted]'s vehicle and continued to work on the vehicle Tuesday because it was scheduled for pick-up on Wednesday. On Tuesday morning 5/16/16, we finished changing the engine fluids and filter then proceeded to start the engine to allow it run for a moment prior to conducting a vehicle road test. We started the vehicle while on the ground and allowed it to run for approx. 8-10 seconds then it shut off. We then restarted the engine, and this time it ran for approx. 14-15 seconds, then it began to make a knocking noise that is consistent with what is commonly termed "Throwing a Rod" in the engine. We shut the vehicle off and then attempted to restart the engine to hear if the engine sound went away, but it continued. We then shut the vehicle off to conduct further inspection and we lifted the vehicle on the lift to examine underneath the vehicle and we found several pieces of chunky aluminum like residue. As we continued to inspect the engine, we then found a small hole in the engine block which also supported the fact that the there was a rod thrown in the engine block. After cleaning up the residue and placing it in a bag for visual evidence we then contacted Mr. [redacted] to inform him of what we had discovered and diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new or used engine block. It is our hypothesis that it is highly probable that the pressure from Mr. [redacted] attempting to accelerate the vehicle through water increased the RPM level of the engine creating a high temperature, high water pressure, and the hot aluminum engine touching the cold water is what may have been the reason for the thrown rod and cracked engine. It was not until the engine could actually run again that the thrown rod could be identified and it completed the damage caused by Mr. [redacted] driving through the water, resulting in a cracked engine. After being notified the couple came to the shop the next day and we continued to explain the issue. The couple was extremely unhappy with the information that we shared and became very belligerent and hostile. We empathized with the couple and stated that we would be courteous and allow them to store the vehicle for a few days as they come up with a plan to what their next steps were. On June 3, Mr [redacted] came in to pay for his invoice and our office staff accepting the cash payment was very afraid of the intimidating demeanor. As a courtesy, we agreed as a business not to charge any storage fees to this couple as we were exercising to empathy and grace for their unfortunate situation. On Friday, June 3, 2016 Mr. [redacted] was the only customer that paid in the form of cash with one of the bills being an illegitimate [redacted] bill. At the end of the night when the end of the evening cash bank drop was being counted and picked up for deposit, the bill was discovered. The time was approximately after 8pm in the evening, so I waited to contact Mr. [redacted] out of respect of his private time. Saturday morning I contacted Mr. [redacted] to make him aware that there was a mistake made with the cash exchange. Mr. [redacted] was informed that his vehicle would not be released until he exchanged the [redacted] bill. On June 9, 2016 Mr. [redacted] came in to make good on the illegitimate [redacted] bill so we did not file a charge, however we did file a police report and the police confiscated the illegitimate bill and his vehicle keys were released.

Please see attached file of the illegitimate bill.

We can provide pics of the residue from the engine upon request.
