been multiple apologies that her daughter was inconvenienced. I have also been working with United since March 24 to get compensation for the 18 girls and one adult who were re-routed from their original flight.We had a group of 54 on United. When we got to the airport the check-in, we found that the seats for the first 18 names on the list had been canceled by United on March 22nd. There was no explanation at the time, and we didn't have time to figure it out. The UA agents and myself spent about an hour finding different flights to accommodate the 18 girls and one teacher chaperone. The list of students had 24 girls, 26 boys and 4 adults. We list the girls first so that their seats are assigned next to each other. United and I have explained to the client several times that there was no decision to take boys before girls, it just happened that the first 18 seats were canceled and the first 18 names happened to be girls. United has not been able to thoroughly explain the seat cancelation mistake, but has made a compensation offer to each of the affected students and one chaperone. The client's daughter was one of the 10 girls who had a long layover in Houston and arrived at the Boston airport at 10 pm, approximately 5 hours late. The last 3 girls were in their rooms by 11:20. All the other students were in their rooms by 10 pm, but most were still awake at 11:20. The nature of travel to an earlier time zone means that the students' body clocks felt like it was 8:20, not 11:20. In my 34 years of experience with student travel, I know that most students have a hard time falling asleep at a decent hour on the first night.All students were able to fully participate in the tour from that point on. Her daughter did have the opportunity to shop for Harvard merchandize at [redacted] on Sunday. This is the same place that all the students who purchased sweatshirts did their shopping.We have two sources who tell us that the security guard from Securitas did not go into the girls' room. He knocked on the door to ask them to quiet down. The girls opened the door, even though they were told multiple times not to. The guard stayed outside the door and asked them to be more quiet.I realize that this young lady was distressed to see her friend have an allergic reaction, and I feel badly for her. Her other friends were able contact several chaperones who were there within minutes. It turned out to be a relatively minor incident. We have a written acknowledgment from the allergic girl's father thanking the chaperones and saying that he appreciated the way it was handled.In summary, there was no discrimination based on gender, race, religion or anything else, all students were tired after the first night of little sleep, the security guard did his job in a professional manner and the chaperones were there when needed.I know that this client has other concerns with the compensation offer from United. I have and will continue to work cordially with this client to make sure that her concerns are being passed on United.
