World Pawn and Loan, Inc Reviews (1)

In Dec of 2012 I brought some Items to World Pawn and Loan, Inc for pawn and not to sell. They keep the items for 4 mos, and then you have to pay the interest or pick them out. At this time May 5th 2013 I could not afford to take the items out, so I paid the interest. I was in the process of moving and so forth. I did not receive a letter from the pawn broker yet, but I put in a change of address and was not worried, because I have been doing business with them for about 18 years or maybe even longer. I called World Pawn and told them what my slip number was and the man on the phone told me I could come anytime and until the 14th of September, and that fell on a saturday, and I asked him of they were opened and he stated yes. I said I will be there on the 14th and stated ok that would be fine. I called on the 14th to see what time they were open and told him my name, and he told me to hold on. I waited and another man came on and said your stuff is gone and the man is walking out the door with your stuff right now. You had only til 13th at midnight. I was confused and hysterical at the same time. In the mean time I did receive the notice of the items were going up for auction on the 14th. The man told me too bad the that he crosses all his T's and dots his I's. I told him I talked to a man about 5 days before and he told me I did not and know one told me such a thing. I asked if you could catch the man leaving out the door with my Jewelry that meant a lot to me, my wedding rings and others that I can not replace. He hung up on me. I called my husband and he called to see if we could buy them back and said he was not giving him any info.I believe I was set up to loose my items and I am just sick about the whole thing, and should of not waited to last minute, but I had not choice. I was told one thing and they did another. They knew I was coming in on the 14th and was told it would be no problem.Product_Or_Service: Jewelry and TabletAccount_Number: XXXXXXDesired SettlementI want my items back and find out where they went to try to buy them back. There are sentimental to me and can not be replaced. I believe they should give my stuff back. The letter is deceptive and should be clearly written and not where people just see the date and think they have till that date.Business Response World Pawn & Loan Inc. mailed a notice on August 23, 2013 to her at the address we had on file. She states that she put in a change of address but did not notify us. The notice states in bold print "DUE BEFORE September 14". We do this on a monthly basis and tell our customers to be here on the day before by 5:00 P.M. closing time as it will go to auction in the morning of the date on the notice. She states she did receive the notice and did not read it thoroughly by only looking at the date. Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I do not accept the response from the World Pawn and Loan Inc. I was not told when I called before the 14th to come in before 5pm. I spoke to the gentlemen and was told that 14th was the last day, not the 13th. I did not read the letter only the date, becuase I spoke to someone at the establishment, and said the 14th would be fine. I have been doing business with them for years I called before and always called to find out information. I was told I could come in on Sat, the 14th and when I called on the day, I was told my items were going out the door with a man. I asked them to stop them and he was rude to me and taunted me. I was crying and begging him. I asked him how and where could I get my things. They are non professional people. I was miss guided I believe on purpose. I do have the letter and states to call to make arrangement to pay and that is what I did. They did not abide by it. I was told any such thing about coming in before the 14th, and was told I could come on the 14th and it would be fine. If that was not the case they said nothing. I would have been there on Friday the 13th, but like I said they said could come on the 14th. I am going to try to get phone records showing that I did call before the 14th and made arrangement to come in. They are lying or mistaken, I would have never let my stuff go for such a small amount. There must be plenty of people this has happen too. Most of them maybe can't read or don't care. In the past I have done business with them with the same items, and talked to them on the phone before and this has never happen. Thats why I trusted them, This is unacceptable, The response does not say anything about how they taunted me and how rude he was. He hung up on me and my husband called back, and they would not explain anything to him either. I want my items back, and believe I was scammed. The letters a miss guided. Why not put the date that is actually the loan ends on and not the next day. Not every person understands that. Even so I called way before that date and was told I could come in on the 14th. When I called I said my name and right away I was put on hold, and when someone came back, he said, your stuff in gone and it is going out the door right now with the man. I will never forget the feeling of hearing that and could not believe it. I told him that I called and was told it would be fine to come in on the 14th and the man said know one told me that. "I was told that" or Else I would not be wasting my time with this. Thank you.Final Business Response As we previously stated we do not tell our customers to come in on the day of the auction as it is done at 9:00 A.M.. We even have it advertised in a local publication. She admits to not reading the letter and waiting to the last minute. The pawn began on May 3, 2013 and was due to be redeemed on or by August 31, 2013. We sent the notice out to her one week prior to this giving her ample time. It is not our fault if a person moves and does not supply us with a new address. We are confused to how we taunted her or are non professional people. The gentleman whom she spoke with was the [redacted]. We do not disclose personal information as there is a privacy act. We are sorry it came down to this but why would we mislead a customer who has been patronizing our business for 8 plus years.
