Wright Brothers Plumbing & Heating Reviews (1)

Review: We used this company because our building maintenance had recommended them as a "preferred vendor". When I called for an estimate, I was told $125/hour. While the service and work from the subcontractor they sent over was fine, when work was completed they tried charging us $495 to snake a drain for a clogged kitchen sink. We called the owner to dispute the charge, but she claimed she shared with me earlier that it was $125/hour, but a fixed amount of $495 to snake a drain. If I would have heard her say $495 when I called in for the estimate, I would have gone with a much more affordable vendor as the going rate for this type of work is $250 or less.

After probing further, I asked her if she could explain the charge of $495 - she said she charged us for two hours plus the cost to rent the snake. The rep was only here for an hour. She admitted that she may have miscalculated the cost and overcharged us, but for some reason would only offer a refund of $120 still leaving us with a bill of $375. She could not clearly explain the billing process and had a very lackadaisical attitude.Desired Settlement: We want the company to honor the $125/hour rate and refund us the difference of $250.

I am rejecting this response because:

I cannot convey enough that I'm not denying that Ms. Wright may have quoted the fixed cost of $495, but again I for some reason I only heard the $125/hour in our conversation and therefore agreed to have them come out based under the assumption that work would cost $125/hour. We had several other estimates that same morning that were more affordable on an hourly basis, but decided to give her company a try because this was our first plumbing issue as a homeowner and we were willing to pay a little more to have someone that was recommended and trusted by our building maintenance. However, if I would have heard the $495 in the initial estimate, we would have definitely gone with a more affordable alternative.

I had also asked the plumber upon his arrival what the cost would be to confirm the $125/hour, but he told me he doesn't know until he calls in once the works completed. In hindsight, I should have refused the work until charges were confirmed. I did not intentionally agree to $495, but I did not feel it was fair to dispute the charge with the subcontractor she sent out and that it should be discussed directly with Ms. Wright after he left.

This is where my heartburn is, after probing about the charge more with Ms. Wright, she stated that she did miscalculate and overcharge us. When asked to clarify, she could not clearly explain her billing and thought process and appeared to skirt around the question. She also mentioned that $495 was for two hours plus the cost to rent the snake. She eventually did agree to refund us a difference of $120, but we are not comfortable with that amount as it is not commensurate for the work – it took the plumber 1 hour to complete the work.

I feel strongly that we had been taken advantage of as a consumer. Since Ms. Wright and I could not come to an agreeable term, I felt pressed that our only option was to report it to the Revdex.com.

Not realizing Ms. Wright had already responded to our complaint with the Revdex.com, I decided to follow up with her directly this afternoon when she told me that will not be refunding anything back because we reported her to the Revdex.com and accused me of price fixing. This is unfortunate and seems like a spiteful approach.

We’d like for us to come to an immediate resolution. We kindly ask that Ms. Wright compromise and refund us $245 leaving a remainder of $250. This would adequately cover the charge of the 1 hour of labor and the cost to rent the snake.

Regards,
