Approximately years ago I bought a Yakima roof top rack system for my Honda Civic sedanWhen I later traded for a Honda Civic sedan the redesigned mounting clips for that car were readily available by Yakima and those same clips also worked for the similarly designed Honda Civic sedan that I later acquiredRecently I've traded to a Honda Civic which is an entirely new body designThe car has been on the market for roughly or months now but Yakima's engineers still haven't come up with the new clips or the mounting configuration for the new model CivicI've called their customer service number and have been told they have no idea when the clips will be availableThere is also no timetable provided on the company websiteI've got a considerable amount of money invested in my Yakima system but, for now, it's totally useless as it sits in my garage

We appreciate Mr. [redacted]’s long term patronage of our brand.   While we strive to have fit kits available soon after vehicles are released to the market clip development and testing is not a simple process and there can be situations that lead to delays in the product release process....


The situation with Mr. [redacted]’s Honda is three fold:
1st. The roof line on the 2016 Civic is new, which is requiring us to develop new clips specific for this roof, this takes times.  Our fit techs have to evaluate the roof, develop prototypes and do preliminary field test to confirm the design fits the vehicles roof and door frames. 
2nd. While we have designed the new clip and they have past field testing for fit we can’t move to production until we have done extensive testing dynamic testing, this is where we have run into a delay.  Until just recently we had not been able to acquire the roof of a 2016 Civic to conduct “destructive” test on.  This testing is where we verify the clip can withstand the forces generated in use, now that we have the roof we’ll begin this testing shortly.
If the clip performs as expected we’ll then move to production and the clip will be available by the end of October.  If the clip fails to perform as intended then release could be delayed until next March, or if we’re unable to resolve the failure mode then it is possible we could list the car as No Fit, this is unlikely, but is a possibility.
Finally the 2016 Civic will require the use of a new tower system called BaseLine.  Mr. [redacted] has been using our Q-Tower system on his previous Hondas.  The Q-Tower has been in the market since 1994 due to changes in automotive design over the last 22 years the effectiveness of the Q-Tower system in fitting new cars has dismissed to where a new design was needed to address the changes in vehicle design.
We’d be happy to provide Mr. [redacted] a discount toward the purchase of new towers and fitting kits when available for his new car.  If he is interested in this I’ll be happy to contact him directly and provide him with the discount code.
Again we appreciate Mr. [redacted]’s loyalty, and his patience as we work to release the fit for his car, and we hope to keep him as a member of the Yakima family.
