Review: My wife bought me a custom made wedding ring that was made with meteorite. The ring was beautiful and perfect.. for about a month. One day, a piece of the Meteorite fell out of the ring (which I had kept and have pictures of). That happened roughly around 11/17, which is the beginning of the e-mail chain my wife has. They had originally told us in the e-mail "Fortunately your ring is covered under our lifetime warranty program. Simply send it back to us and we will process the repair." We were fine with this solution, except that they didn't repair the ring, they re-made the ring. They did tell us before we received the replacement that it had been re-made and not repaired, but we assumed that by "re-made the ring" they meant it would be the same ring. When the replacement ring arrived, it was not the same ring. It was different in appearance, the metal on the inside was ported (Best way I can describe it) and most importantly, it was not a comfort fit, which causes the ring to fit differently than a regularly cut ring. We immediately contacted the company who apologized & emailed us a return label. They said they would try to have the ring converted to a comfort fit or would have it remade again, which we again were perfectly fine with. We mailed the ring back but never heard back from them. My wife contacted [redacted] again via email on 2/25 to see what was going on, [redacted] called us days later and said the ring could not be remade the way we requested (color/comfort fit). My wife immediately requested a refund since a "lifetime warrantee" was no longer an option, which was denied and said "we typically give store credit." After lengthy conversation where color is no longer an issue but the "comfort fit" was, [redacted] wanted to confirm size before another ring was made. We received a sizing kit and have attempted to contact [redacted] repeatedly to place the new order. Were presently awaiting a phone call to see if this is possible. I could order a brand new one right now.Desired Settlement: After almost 5 months of negotiation, we would like either a size 9 comfort fit meteorite ring set in Colbalt made by [redacted] as advertised on there website before the end of April 2015, or I would like a refund for the full retail price. We have already had to buy a replacement ring to be worn in the meantime. I realize there is a size difference also between the original ring purchased and the ring we are requesting, but so much time has passed it's allowed me to lose weight.

Review: I bought a Tungsten wedding band (Alto by Triton) from this company online based on the website claim that it was made of "the hardest metal alloy on earth." Just two years later the ring broke in half. Turns out these rings are made out of powder. So I called up J.R. Yates and they said to send it in for a replacement. After I sent the two halves of the ring in a sealed, taped envelope, with my original receipt I received a call from their staff stating that they received my envelope and paperwork but there was no ring inside!! What a scam. So called "Lifetime guarantee" is worthless. I learned my lesson with this company. Buyer beware.Desired Settlement: I would like a replacement wedding band.

Response:

Customer alleges he sent his ring to our store for size exchange. However, we never received any ring from him. We did receive a paper envelope with a hole in it. I am guessing that the U.S.P.S. mail sorting equipment ripped the envelope due to the large metal ring being inside the paper envelope. We cannot replace his ring with another ring as we did not receive his original ring. Our size exchange program states that we can do a size EXCHANGE, but we have to have something to exchange. A ring for a ring. Not an empty envelope for a ring. I sympathize with Mr. [redacted], but he used extremely poor judgement in sending a ring in a paper letter envelope. On our website we clearly state the following: How Do I return my jewelry for a SIZE EXCHANGE? If you need to return an item for an EXCHANGE please follow these steps. 1. Please package the jewelry securely. 2. Please include a copy of your invoice. 3. Please write what new size you need to exchange for. You can write this on the copy of the invoice, or include a note for us. Make sure we have your contact information so we can contact you. 4. Do NOT send the jewelry back in an envelope. The jewelry will probably not arrive to us if you do this. 5. Please insure the package for the full value in the event that the package never arrives at our destination. Please do not use the words: jewelry, jewelers, diamonds or similar words on the address label due to theft. http://www.titanium-jewelry.com/helpdesk.html Mr. [redacted] did not follow the instructions. He did not: 1) Package the jewelry securely 2) He sent in an envelope, which we advise against 3) He did not insure the package We cannot be held liable for Mr. [redacted]'s failure to get the ring to us. However, if it would help Mr. [redacted], I can authorize a 40% discount to replace his ring. He will need to call our manager, [redacted], and we can apply the discount. This is more than fair. If the Revdex.com or anyone else would like to see a picture of the damaged envelope we received we can email or post it. Thank you, [redacted]

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:

First of all I would like to address the factual inaccuracies of the response issued by [redacted]. I was never returning this ring for a size exchange. The ring I purchased literally broke in pieces after less than three years. This product was advertised and represented by the seller as being the hardest metal on earth, scratch proof, and virtually indestructible. These claims are what induced me to purchase the ring, along with the so-called "lifetime guarantee" that was not honored. After the ring randomly broke in half, I called J.R. Yates & Co. (operators of www.titanium-jewelry.com) and spoke to Steven [redacted] during which time I explained that the ring had broken in half. Mr. [redacted] told me that a new ring would be sent out to me under the "lifetime warranty" policy and all I needed to do was to drop the pieces of the broken ring and my original receipt in the mail and send it back to them. He gave me the address to send it to and I specifically asked him if the company would provide me with return packaging and he said, "No, just put it in an envelope and send it back." Considering that the ring was broken in pieces, and essentially worthless, I saw no point in insuring the package or using any specialized packaging designed to protect valuable or fragile contents. I did, however, have my assistant put clear packing tape around the envelope to ensure it did not open during transit.

The next thing I know I received an email from [redacted] of Titanium-Jewelry on May 27, 2014, stating that they received my package including my receipt but the pieces of my ring were not inside. I immediately demanded to see photographs of the envelope. The two photographs that were emailed to me by Ms. [redacted] showed a ripped envelope, but they did not contain my handwriting or any other way to confirm that the envelope pictured was the one I had sent. I was immediately suspicious that the seller was simply trying to get out of honoring the warranty on a defective product. There are two separate issues here; the first is that the Alto wedding band sold to me by Titanium Jewelry is/was defective and broke in pieces in less than three years of normal use. The second issue is the seller's failure to honor their "lifetime warranty" as advertised. Representatives from the seller have admitted to me over the phone that this product is known to be "very brittle" and break. I was sold a product that was known to the seller to be defective and I was never informed by seller at any time during the initial sale that the ring I was purchasing was very brittle and could break into pieces at any time.

The precautions listed by [redacted] in his response are applicable only to size exchanges or returns; not warranty claims for rings that break into pieces. Additionally, the instructions I was given by Mr. [redacted] were inconsistent with those listed in the response or on the website. In fact, the website does not make any reference to policies and procedures that relate to warranty claims for broken jewelry. The following language is all that can be found on the seller's website regarding the lifetime warranty:

"Your new titanium or tungsten ring is warrantied for life!

*Lifetime Tungsten Band Warranty - Should your solid tungsten ring ever scratch or break simply send it back to us for a free replacement. (On two-tone tungsten rings we cannot warranty scratching on gold, silver or platinum inlays as they are softer metals.)"

The seller should have notes or documentation of my communications with them BEFORE I sent the broken ring pieces. The seller's reference to a discount that they "might" be able to offer if the manager approves it is unacceptable. I refuse to pay more money to the seller for defective merchandise. I am requesting a refund of my original purchase price or a wedding band that is not defective of equal value.

Review: Purchased a Edward Mirell titanium ring with a sapphire stone - received a black ring with pink stone that clearly says "black" and "zirconium" on the inside of the ring - had no Edward Mirell paperwork or engraving on ring as shown in pictures. [redacted]Desired Settlement: Ask that the seller sends items as shown on website.
