If you are an assertive woman, who asks questions-be prepared to be talked down to and disrespected. Between December of 2015 and April 2016, I have taken my car in for the same problem, 3 times. During my first visit, it was their suggestion that I replace 2 parts. We decided to try replacing one first to see if that would help, as it would be a cheaper route. When I took the car back in January for the same problem, you'd think that maybe they would look into some other things that could be causing the replaced part to stop working again. Instead, they replaced the same part for a second time. Yesterday, the issue returned for the 3rd time. I called Yeargan's to ask where they were getting the part from, and they told me. I called the auto parts store and asked their opinion and if it was possible to wind up with 3 defective parts in a span of 4 months. The gentleman stated that by the time it was replaced the second time, he wasn't sure why they weren't looking into other possible causes to diagnose why this kept happening. I agreed. Yeargan's called to tell me I had to replace another part. I explained that there was some noise occurring, (as I did the 1st time I brought it to them). I was told that they looked over their notes and that I never mentioned a noise, and if I HAD, they would've checked the other part. I asked, "So this is my fault?" The owner didn't like that. I expressed how I didn't understand why they didn't test other things, and decided to replace the same part a second time. The owner replied, "You can come get your car so I don't have to listen to your smart mouth anymore." I was mortified. After hanging up the phone, the owner proceeded to call my place of employment, and left a message saying, " This is Yeargan's Automotive. We are getting ready to leave for the day. If you want your car, I suggest you come pick it up. It's 2:45, come get your car." After receiving that message, I called him back to let him know I was on my way. Their business hours are 8AM-5PM, so that message was very alarming and felt a little threatening. I immediately went and got my car back. Throughout all of the back and forth with this business, there was never any understanding or apologies for the hassle/inconvenience. ZERO customer service. They simply did not care. The customer has no say. The owner is always right. And if you call him out on something or ask questions, he will treat you poorly. In addition to this terrible experience, I now have to go somewhere else to pay for a part and labor that is STILL under warranty with Yeargan's. I do not want to step foot in there ever again, or speak to the owner, so I am choosing to eat that money. Lastly, the other business that I am taking it to for repairing both parts is cheaper than Yeargan's.
“Maybe we were both having a bad day, but I'm pretty sure businesses shouldn't treat/talk to their customers this way.”

I brought my vehicle in to Yeargan's Top Notch Automotive for an oil change. Ten days later my oil plug fell out and my engine seized. On July 8th, 2014 I brought my vehicle into Yeargan's Top Notch Autmotive for a routine oil change and to have new brakes put on my vehicle. Ten days later on Friday, July 18th while I was stuck in one way traffic my engine seized. I had my car towed to a local auto-mechanic in Hillsborough, NC who told me that my engine was shot and that there was no oil in my car. I informed Mr. [redacted] that day, who had changed my oil ten days previously, that my car had no oil in it. He offered to have my vehicle towed to his shop that Friday (7-18-2014) where he could have a look at it. That afternoon I saw my car on the life at Yeargan's but did not receive a phone call from him. On Monday, July 21st, 2014, I called [redacted] twice (once in the morning and once in the afternoon) before he was able to tell me that there was no oil plug in my car. He then asked if I had any enemies that would take out my oil plug. I told [redacted] that I had no enemies and informed him that he did not screw my oil plug in correctly. I have spoken to several mechanics who told me that if the oil plug is not screwed in correctly, it can vibrate lose and fall out ten days after an oil change. That is exactly what happened to my car. [redacted] said that it was not his fault. The next day on Tuesday, July 22nd, I went up to Yeargan's to retrieve my broken down vehicle. He then accused me of scamming him. He said that he had gone up to my residence on Friday, July 18th, 2014 and said that he did not see any oil leaks in my driveway. I however found oil leaks in my driveway after my car broke down and I have pictures of them. The following day Yeargan informed me that his insurance company will be contacting me for a statement. On Monday, July 28th, 2014, I gave a statement to [redacted] at [redacted] Insurance Company who insures Yeargan's Top Notch Automotive. The following day on Tuesday, July 29th, 2014 an appraiser, [redacted] came out to appraise the damage on my car. The damage was appraised at $2,551.81. [redacted] told me that I should be hearing back from [redacted] within a few days regarding the appraisal and that if I didn't hear from [redacted] I should call him. I did not hear from Mr. [redacted] and called him three times over a two week period. Finally on Monday, August 11th, 2014, I left a voicemail for Mr. [redacted] stating that if I did not hear from him I would be contacting the Revdex.com and the North Carolina Attorney General's Office Regarding this matter. He finally called me on the evening of August 11th, 2014 and informed me that he was having trouble finding liability on his insurer's ([redacted]'s Top Notch Automotive) part. He repeatedly brought up the notion of an oil filter and I asked him numerous times why he was talking about an oil filter when everyone involved knew that had absolutely nothing to do with my car breaking down. He finally admitted that my car breaking down had nothing to do with an oil filter. Mr. [redacted] also told me that he needed to speak to the man who towed my car after it broke down on July 18th, 2014. I gave him the number of the towing company who towed my car. Mr. [redacted] also told me that he had not looked into the appraisal that Mr. [redacted] had sent him. I feel like both Yeargan's Top Notch Automotive and [redacted] Insurance Company have not been communicative and have been very accusatory towards me during this process. I was left without a car and no transportation for ten days because of this ordeal. Mr. [redacted] accused me of having enemies and scamming him when his shop was the last shop to touch my oil plug. Mr. [redacted] has been uncommunicative and unhelpful during this whole exchange. My vehicle is ruined because of a routine oil change that Yeargan's Top Notch Automotive did on my car and Mr. [redacted] was rude and unhelpful and very accusatory towards me. Every auto-mechanic I have spoken to has said that the oil plug (if not screwed in correctly) can fall outDesired SettlementI would like to have the totaled value of my car given to me. The bluebook value of my car is $1,900. That is far below the appraisal price of putting a new engine in my car valued at $2,551.81.Business Response /[redacted]/ On July 8th, Ms. [redacted] brought her 2002 Saturn SC Coupe in to Yeargan's Top Notch Automotive at 100A Lloyd St Carrboro, NC XXXXX for front and rear brakes. She had brought in her own parts in order to save money. We told her we could do the brake job with her parts but there would be no warranty. The front brake parts were fine and we used them, but the parts for the rear were not correct. She asked about us doing an oil and filter change for her. She asked the price and we told her in would run about $48.00. She said that she could not afford that so we offered her a coupon for a free oil and filter change and she was happy to take it. We completed the brakes and the oil and filter change and she paid the bill of $144.65 and took her car. Ten days later, on July 18th, Ms. [redacted] came to the shop with a friend and said her car had broken down in Hillsborough. I told her I would have the car towed to my shop and take a look at it. The car was towed from [redacted] Tire and Automotive. When we paid the bill at [redacted] the bill stated that the driver said "stopped at idle, when accelerated vehicle died. Felt vehicle lose power steering then powered down." Technician found "engine depleted of all engine oil, motor is locked up and needs to be replaced". We put the car on the rack and lifted it up to find the oil plug missing from the oil pan. There was no sign of any wet oil under the car. This should have been evident if the oil plug had just fallen out. There was no sign of any oil blowing back under the car, which would have been evidence of the car being driven for ten days and 250 miles with a loose oil plug. Yeargan's Top Notch Automotive Inc. has been in business for 22 years and has never had a car leave the shop with an oil plug loose or leaking. After 36 years of personally doing this kind of work for a living, I can verify that if an oil plug was left loose for 250 miles, there would have been many signs: oil under the car, oil on the driveway, smelling oil burning on the exhaust. After that long of leaking oil the oil light on the car would be on letting the driver know that the oil in the car needed to be checked. Either the driver never bothered to stop and check the oil if the oil light was on, or the oil plug was tight and there was no oil leak. We know the oil light works because Ms. [redacted] said that when she was stopped the oil light came on and the engine just stopped. Oil warring lights are designed to come long before the engine is in danger of self-destruction. After we had the car towed to our shop and saw what was missing the oil plug, and noting that ten days had passed since the work was performed on her car, we drove to Ms. [redacted]' address at [redacted] CT Hillsborough, NC. We found that [redacted] CT was dry of any oil from were you turn off of [redacted] Rd on to [redacted] CT all the way to her driveway. There was no oil leakage evident in the driveway. [redacted] Rd is a dead end road. There was a large line of oil from the dead-end past [redacted] CT to the end at [redacted] Dr, but no oil was evident on [redacted] Ct., which is where she lived. When we discussed this discovery with Ms. [redacted] the next day and explained that we had a video, she was shocked that we had taken the time to drive to her address and then suddenly claimed there was oil all over the driveway and that she had pictures. When Ms. [redacted] came to office on the 18th to tell us about her car she had a male friend with her. He never told us his name, would not look at anyone directly, and would not let her do any talking. I repeatedly asked to speak with her as the owner of the car, but he was insistent on being involved. He was very combative and was only interested in accusing us of wrongdoing and talking about our reputation and how he was going to give us bad reviews on every social website. We took in the car on Friday, the 18th and were able to look at it at about 4:30 pm. Because the oil plug was missing, we needed to call a parts supplier to deliver a new one before we could verify whether or not the engine was seized. A car should never be operated without the oil plug. Our shop closes at 5 pm and we had to wait until Monday to receive the part to do the diagnosis. We contacted her on Monday to let her know that in fact, the engine was seized. We called [redacted] Insurance, who is the insurance provider for Yeargan's Top Notch Automotive Inc., and turned over the information to them to begin an investigation, let them look at the car, and interview Ms. [redacted]. The finding of the [redacted] Insurance Co. was that it could not find concrete evidence that Yeargan's Top Notch was at fault for what ever happened to the oil plug in Mr. [redacted] Saturn that had been in without leaking for 250 miles. We don't like for any one to have misfortune, but unfortunately, based upon my experience, those of my peers, and the insurance company, we are unable to find fault on our part.Thank you,[redacted]Pres.
