I first contacted YES in early 2019. Why? Well, four years earlier, in May 2015, I had lost my full-time faculty position at Georgetown University through departmental contraction related to budget cuts across many medical and nursing programs. Which wasn’t such a horrible thing back then...because my wife and I had just welcomed our first daughter two weeks before my full-time position was cut. The first two years after losing full-time faculty status, I taught my own courses at adjunct status (and adjunct pay) and applied to related jobs in the DC area. Additionally, I was thankful for the strange opportunity being let go from my full-time role allowed me: to be primary weekday caregiver for first our first, and then both our daughters while my wife continued working a rewarding and challenging full-time job near our home. I kept thinking if I just keep applying, something’s gonna come around.
Some things did come around but they weren’t what I was looking for. I had plenty of informational interviews, plenty of former colleagues some of whom actually offered to work on creating new positions for me in higher education settings. Nothing ever materialized. Nothing except the same old cycle of looking for similar positions to the ones I’d had my entire career, applying to a few of them, and then hardly ever hearing from the search committee, let alone being invited to interview. I was stuck--in my own head, in a professional development and job search pattern that had turned in on itself and had turned me into both my biggest critic and biggest judge. Three years out from losing my full-time university teaching role, I had two healthy young daughters, a wife who believed in me, several unsteady adjunct teaching positions, an immense amount of anxiety about the future, and depression about the present. Well into middle-age, I began to wonder if I could ever find well-paying, meaningful work again. And if I did happen to find a new full-time position, would it be one that I could invest in and use to build out a new career path that I could be active in for the next 15-20 years?
I came upon YES’s services while browsing my Facebook feed. I’d heard of them but hadn’t realized that Katherine and Michael had set up shop so close to where I lived. I added them to the list of ten career coaching and professional job search services I began exploring in early 2019. From my initial free consult with their Akash, I knew that I’d connected with a particularly unique company, even more so with particularly unique people. After hearing a bit of my professional background and current desire to explore a career pivot to one of five new professional sectors I had in mind, I was offered a great financial deal on a wonderful portfolio of services. I’d chosen to work with Michael in career transition coaching, and with Katherine on interview training through YES’s original Interview Aikido program.
Three sessions into my coaching with Michael, I was able to narrow my search for a career pivot to three career sectors thanks to his well-chosen questions and a great career track evaluation tool he provided me. This tool, just like his questions, was tailored to my specific job situation and desired trajectory. Around this time, I’d also updated my LinkedIn profile and tightened up my cover letter based on what I’d learned in sessions with Michael and some external reading. The next week I had two informational interviews that I was able to review with Michael which helped me narrow my career pivot down to only two remaining career sectors. I located two desirable positions, one in each sector, and wrote my best application for both. And what do you know--within a week I’d been invited to interview for them both!
This is when I contacted Katherine for my mock-interview experience. She played the role of hiring managers for both positions and provided me a chance to practice my interview craft with the support of a highly professional, empathetic and also constructively critical training net. After each interview, she provided me specific feedback that was both concise and thorough. I’d never been coached so well in interview prep before! I went home with a few days before my interview for one position positively humbled, energized, and with real, grounded confidence in myself and my fit for both positions I’d applied to.
One month later, after being a finalist for both positions, I was offered the position that, in the end, was the ideal fit for me at this point in my career. My new position allows me to build upon my previous training and experience, provides great pay and benefits, and even has flexible work hours so I can continue to prioritize my family and advance in my work. And I know I was offered that position because Michael, Kathleen, and Akash had supported me in my professional development in ways that were unique to me--my training and experience, my spirituality, my part-time job related anxiety and despair, and also my particular vocational questions and passions.
They helped me locate the most important thing that I had lost over the previous four years of looking for full-time work while subsisting on adjunct pay and caring for my two young daughters--my truest, strongest, bravest vocational self. They didn’t give me analytics-based answers or a formulaic coaching program to complete. They gave me the real edge for success I needed--the growing edge of sincere and realistic expectation that I came into contact with through each session I was able to sit, listen, talk, and work with them.
They listened to me and coached me through a multi-step process of relocating the ground of hope for something better deep inside of me. And they also enabled me to practically craft a well-hewn footpath that would eventually get me to where I wanted to go, professionally speaking, as I was inspired by that renewed ground of hope.

When I first contacted YES, I was employed but looking to grow in my career. I had been applying to jobs over the course of about a year and a half, but I wasn’t getting any responses. I’m so glad I finally decided to work with YES, because the difference was remarkable.
Their team built a resume and cover letter for me from scratch, using my responses to a detailed questionnaire to best highlight my career accomplishments and tailor my experience for the exact kind of jobs I was looking for. I’d been thinking about switching jobs for a long time. Prior to contacting YES, I’d sent out a handful of applications, but I hadn’t gotten much of a response. My old resume template wasn’t cutting it, and I wanted something that had a better look and feel. I’d also just earned an MBA and was hoping to work my education into the narrative.
One bit of advice: When you first start the process, it’s a good idea to do some background research and figure out the type of job that you really want to pursue. For me, that meant focusing more on a position where I could use my strategic management and business analysis skills. After I found a job that matched what I was looking for, I worked with an interviewer at the company. He helped me tease out details that could be used to highlight similar experience in my past jobs.
When I received the resume, it was like night and day between the old format and the new one. The resume also included an editing period, so after I received the initial version, I worked with an editor on a few changes that I wanted to incorporate. I found this part of the process to be especially helpful. It allowed me to ask questions and get a better understanding of which skills and experiences made the most sense to focus on.
YES also provided a guide with tips on how to customize the resume and cover letter for different jobs. I used my new templates, along with this guide, to send out other applications. Not long ago, I was hired at a highly respected firm. I appreciate the work that YES has done, and I’m looking forward to getting started at my new job this week.

I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide. As evidence provided below, Your Edge for Success (YES LLC) overcharged me for services rendered and the product that YES LLC provided to me was unusable. In addition, they wasted hours of my time. I am requesting the full amount paid to be refunded ($1989.00).
Your Edge for Success (YES LLC) did a terrible job on my documents and they significantly overcharged me (by their own admission). YES LLC did offer to refund the overcharges, but their refund offer was initially conditional upon me signing an agreement saying that I would agree to be charged $2000 plus $200 per forum per day if I made any public comments or disparaging remarks. I now understand why there are not more negative reviews about YES LLC. They offered no compensation for the poor workmanship; only an offer to “rework” the documents. Since the deadline for submission of these documents had past and YES LLC did not seem to understand anything about my technical area, this was not an option.
I initially went to YES LLC under a tight timeline to edit my documents, but YES LLC insisted that it was in my best interest to pay over $1989.00 for a full rewrite which included their Federal Career Boost Package and a 10 page KSA resume. YES LLC later admitted that they only “edited” my documents and only spent 5.275 hours editing my KSA’s (knowledge skills and abilities), something that, by YES LLC’s admittance, only should have cost $671.88. The additional $599 they charged to have their inefficient automated resume generating software system generate a horrible new resume- was not something they admitted to be overpriced. (Note an additional $50 was charged to my credit card which I never authorized-currently under dispute with my credit card company) I probably never would have learned how much I was overcharged if I did not take issue with the horrible job they had done. I wasted hours of my time with their extremely poorly constructed online system; the “work-arounds” they provide in order to deal with their website problems makes it seem like they are fully aware of the problems with their site. The resume that was generated seemed like a purely an automated document and it was awful. It seemed as though no consideration was given to my specific line of work. In addition, YES LLC did not get the documents back to me in time for me to review and edit the document before I needed to submit. There was nothing they could do in time to fix what they had done. Since I felt the writing was horrible and the document seemed to contain several grammatical errors, I was forced to revert to my original documents in order to meet the submission deadline. I initially agreed to a partial refund of $868.12, but after reviewing the document they required me to sign as a condition to receiving this refund I felt that I could not proceed with their conditional refund offer. The document seemed to violate my rights as a consumer. The conditional partial refund offered by YES LLC required me to sign a document which stated that 1) by written statement I would agree that YES LLC did not really owe me a refund, and 2) I agreed that YES LLC would later be able to re-collect the dispersed amount, plus damages, and legal fees, and 3) if I made any public comments or disparaging remarks I would agree to pay $2000 plus $200 per forum per day.

When I first contacted YES LLC, I only requested that an editor review my documents (KSA’s as described by YES LLC). I continued to raise concern about the fact that I was being overcharged, but both Abbie M and Katherine A insisted that it was more cost efficient and I would get better results if my KSA's were entirely rewritten. (page 21). In an email dated September 25. 2017 at 9:28 pm, Katherine A admitted that “when Alisa (the writer) took a close look at my drafts and the questions, she felt the answers I had drafted were already fully responsive and impressive, so she just edited them.” (page 5) Katherine reviewed the time spent on my documents and agreed to issue a partial refund of $768.12 based upon the time actually spent on my documents. (see page 5). She also told me that she would have to send an “amended agreement” to me and that my refund was conditional upon me signing this agreement. When I questioned this logic, her husband stepped in and starting sending me messages. I am not sure what Katherine’s husbands’ official position is within the company, but he made it seem as though he was representing the company as “legal counsel”. He offered a $868.12 refund (page 12) if I signed an “legally binding agreement” that stated that 1) I agreed that YES LLC did not really owe me a refund, and 2) I agreed that YES LLC would later be able to re-collect the dispersed amount, plus damages, and legal fees, and 3) if I made any public comments or disparaging remarks I would pay $2000 plus $200 per forum per day. (page 14) When I refused to sign this agreement, he sent another agreement which was revised to be slightly less “restrictive”, but still seemed to violate my rights as a consumer. (page 15)
In addition to over-charging me and providing a poor product without sufficient time to correct their errors, this company wasted countless hours of my time.
I experienced repeated issues with on line software platform YES services uses to collect information, problems that this company is well aware of but refuses to address. On 13 September I received an email stating that Alisa Jackson was drafting my documents. She asked me a few questions over the website, most of which were illustrating her lack of competency in my technical field. None of which were solicitations for new information that would improve my documents in any significant way. She requested the current draft of my documents to work from. I provided them to her as she requested. 14 September- after minor edits and using an online resume generating system, I was told that my document was nearly completed by Alisa Jackson (14-Sept email)
I started to become concerned about the companies’ ability to complete my project on time when Abbie mentioned in a phone call that they would not be working over the weekend to help meet my deadline of 19 September. On 18 September I received a message from Katherine A indicating that they received “A record number of rush deliveries that day” and that I would not have my documents to review until midnight on 18 September (now a day before they were due for submission). On 19 September I received a message from Katherine indicating that she apologized for being late, but there were other clients who’s deadlines were more “imminent” than mine.
Since I work a full time job, it was impossible at this point for me to have sufficient time to review the documents before the submission deadline, and there was no time to permit me to go back and forth with the writer to make revisions.
At initial pass, I thought the documents would suffice, but after reading them in greater detail I realized that negative progress had been made in consideration of errors and misrepresentations of my background and skills. I contacted Katherine to let her know that I was very disappointed with the work that her team had done. I told her that it looked like the resume was mostly generated from an automated system, the cover letter needed to be re-written quite a bit, and, although I had not used any automated tools to assess the variance between the KSA's YES LLC had generated and what I had already done, my initial visual assessment was that they were very similar. She responded with a message in which she had conducted an “analysis and comparison” of the source documents with the final documents her team had generated. This was extremely misleading and incorrect. From my experience, her method was inconsistent with how typical metrics of document dissimilarity are conducted. She used “red marks” as an indicator of how much work they had done; some things were simply moved around which inaccurately made it look like her team had written content. In addition, the manner in which things were moved around and merged with other content made it so I could not use this document as it now misrepresented some of my key accomplishments. I had to revert back to the original document to meet the submission deadline on 19 September.
Katherine agreed to provide me a refund after she spoke to “Alisa”, the person who was originally assigned to my job. She also offered to refund the “rush fee” (something I never authorized) since she did not get me the documents on the day they were promised. (25Sept2017KA***_email) I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide. Considering the fact that the product that YES LLC provided to me was unusable, and wasted hours of my time, I am requesting the full amount be refunded ($1989.00).
