Review: I have been a member of the YMCA here for several years. I am a low income person and am getting a scholarship for membership which I pay half of the regular membership fee. I have always paid cash and never had a problem. Recently they put in place a new policy that you can't pay cash anymore. It has to be a credit/debit card. Reluctantly I agreed and assumed they would only be taking out my already established half price fee for membership once a month. Shortly after that I went to pay for something with my card and found I was short twenty dollars. When I got my band statement it showed they had taken out the full membership fee of forty one dollars instead of my scholarship fee of twenty two. Not only that but they had done it the month before as well. When I called about it I spoke to two different women who both told me my scholarship was up so they automatically just charged my account the regular fee. They said I should have just known. No notification, no warning, nothing. I even spoke to the CEO [redacted] and he told me what they did. That is their policy. They don't have to inform you of what they are charging if they decide to charge you more. They claim it's on their policy I signed. I haven't been able to see it. I believe it is morally and ethically wrong to take advantage of people. Especially low income people like me Who cannot afford to pay that amount and to do it deceptively with no notification. I don't know if it's legal or not but it's wrong.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of the money they took without my authorization and a change in policy regarding notifying people in advance if their scholarship is coming to an end. Anything else is sneaky and disingenuous.
