We followed very standard practice in software, where we sold what's called a "perpetual" licenseThe customer has every right to continue using the software in perpetuity, so long as they maintain the hardware and operating system necessary to keep YNAB runningTheir software isn't crippled, disabled, or made less functional in any wayThey can happily continue using the software they've used the last months, far, far into the futureAgain, this is very standard in the software industry when it comes to perpetual licensesThere was no "bait and switch." We made no promise that we would forever maintain the software (no promise ever could be made), or that all future major upgrades to the software would be given free to the customer because of their purchase of a one-time perpetual license. We have very clear language on our website (including the old version, which this customer saw when purchasing at the end of 2014) that stated that all major upgrades would be for pay, and that minor updates would be freeWe intend to continue issuing minor updates to version through the end of We made this sunset period one year, which is also very standard in the software industry

disabled, or made less functional in any way. They can happily continue using the software they've used the last 18 months, far, far into the future. Again, this is very standard in the software industry when it comes to perpetual licenses. There was no "bait and switch." We made no promise that we would forever maintain the software (no promise ever could be made), or that all future major upgrades to the software would be given free to the customer because of their purchase of a one-time perpetual license. We have very clear language on our website (including the old version, which this customer saw when purchasing at the end of 2014) that stated that all major upgrades would be for pay, and that minor updates would be free. We intend to continue issuing minor updates to version 4 through the end of 2016. We made this sunset period one year, which is also very standard in the software industry.
