Re:  Revdex.com Case #  [redacted]

Thank you for speaking with me yesterday regarding the above complaint.  I reject [redacted]’s response, untrue statements, and solution.  His recollection of the circumstances is false:
•           Second power-washing was done after my concerns with areas that were not cleaned satisfactorily.
•           The employee was new as I was told by [redacted].  So he had a rookie doing a job that required more experience with an older home with Masonite siding. Older homes of this type should not have been cleaned with any type of [redacted] or harsh chemical.
•           The windows were left cloudy.  Windows should have been covered or washed around them – not on them.
•           Streaking of paint on house.
•           Some type of chemical used -- verified by an arborist burned the large yew shrub.
•           The windowsill on the deck had nearly all the paint removed exposing wood.  If there was any evidence of flaking power washing should have ceased.
•           The deck itself has some evidence of power washing results and is now flaking, or popping up, all over the deck.

I did not slam a door in [redacted]’s face.  After trying to explain to him my concerns and his incessant over-talking while I was speaking, his continued denials that they did anything wrong, and his dismissive attitude towards me, I walked into my house and shut the door, firmly.  It was apparent there was not going to be a resolution. I work in facilities management and know when there is poor workmanship.

I have neither confidence in this being resolved satisfactorily nor any confidence in this company and therefore do not accept their offer of resolving the dispute.  I will need to employ a window washer, someone to repaint the deck and windowsill, and hope I do not need to have the house repainted because of the streaking, and watch for any further deterioration of the shrub.  This entire job was a disaster.  Furthermore, I told [redacted] that water had come into the garage and under the house – the crawl space.  He made no comment. This indicates a very powerful force of water utilized.

I take exception that his work has been flawless for ten years and the fact that he feels (he) or his employees can do no harm. It is astounding that such arrogance is indicative of someone incapable of handling constructive criticism. Additionally, it took several phone calls while getting the runaround from his office, to get [redacted] to my home to view the problems.   This predicament will result in costing a substantial amount of money and time to correct the defects resultant of mismanagement of a job that clearly was not conducted professionally.

Revdex.com case # [redacted] – 9/8/2014
Complaint information:
Revdex.com case # [redacted] – Your Man Friday Incorporated – [redacted]
Customer information: - [redacted]
As noted by the...

customer M, Your Man Friday has been successfully doing business in the [redacted] and [redacted] area for over 10 years. The success of our business is totally dependent upon the complete satisfaction of each of our customers. We take great pride in the work that we do and value our relationship with each customer; we have built a reputation with home[redacted]s in our area over the years for being a trustworthy company that customers can depend on.
It is for these reasons that we are quite taken aback by customer M’s accusations. In 10 years, this is the first and only experience we have ever had with a customer who is dissatisfied.  As is public record, there have never been any other such complaints filed with the Revdex.com. Rather, our business is built on goodwill, with the majority of our customers repeat customers over many years.
We proceeded with customer M, who contracted Your Man Friday to power wash her house for $250, in the same way we do with all powerwashing jobs. We powerwashed the house a first time and then did some touch up. We always return after the initial power washing to inspect the house and do a touch up because
the changes in sunlight and the shadows at different times in the day can sometimes hide certain areas.
Nonetheless, customer M. expressed dissatisfaction with the powerwashing of her house, so we returned to the house a second time for a complete re-powerwashing of the entire house once again. Following this powerwashing, Customer M. became quite agitated in talking with the [redacted], shouting and then slamming the door in his face to preclude any further discussion.
Customer comments:
We take exception to the customer’s complaints. The employee who completed the initial powerwashing is an experienced powerwasher; contrary to the experience with Customer M, many customers have gone out of their way to compliment this particular employee for his excellent work.
With regards to the shrub damage (approximately 1 square foot) that customer M cited, it is important to note that we use a nontoxic product called “House Wash” that contains a very low concentration of bleach (10%), so that, when combined with water, it is highly diluted. With our 4 gallons per minute powerwasher, the dilution is reduced to less than 5% concentration. We, of course, take great care in washing any house to ensure that we are spraying only the house. In the event of a sudden gust of wind or blow back, this solution should not have harmed the bush, so we are uncertain as to the reason for any discoloration of the bush.
Finally, in regards to the customer’s accusations regarding the removal of paint from her windowsills as a result of the powerwashing, powerwashing
will not remove paint when the paint is in good condition.  In customer M’s case, the paint on the sill windows on the back deck were already peeling prior to the powerwashing.  If paint is already peeling, powerwashing may remove flaking parts of the paint peeling which are detached from the wood.
Recommended Resolution:
Your Man Friday remains steadfast in our conviction that we performed our work in a professional manner. Nonetheless, we attempted to address Customer M’s verbal complaints at the time.  In the interest, however, of bringing closure to this dispute for all involved, we propose to either (1) return to paint the bottom only of the peeling window sill(s). While customer M. mentioned 1 window sill in her complaint, we believe that there were actually two sills peeling prior to the powerwashing; we will paint both OR we will make a $ 100.00 refund of the $250 charged for the entire job. The customer may choose either option, with the understanding that in so doing, her complaint is withdrawn and she acknowledges that she has no further grounds for ongoing complaint or defamation of Your Man Friday’s reputation.

Review: Initial Power washing house by Your Man Friday Handyman Services & Home Improvement

Needed a second round of power washing due to some remaining dirty gutters and sides of house (missed areas)

Person performing the job was new – per the [redacted] returned with the employee and power washed the house for second time

Shortly after this job a large yew shrub turned yellowish/whitish like it had been bleached

My arborist saw the shrub and agreed that it was a chemical burn from the power washing. There was apparently a blow back from the force of the power washing

After the second power washing with the [redacted], there was water in the crawl space and large amount of water in the garage

I repeatedly called the [redacted] to speak with him about this and after about four calls he came to the house to discuss this situation.

He was in total denial that anything he or his employee did was not possible. That his experience of 10 years and never has there been any such problem.

Furthermore, in addition to the Yew, there was paint blown off one window exposing the wood. He said that was probably relative to the paint or some beginning of peeling.

Nevertheless any evidence of paint flying away and exposing the wood is indicative of too much force against that window and should have ceased applying the water.

No offer to repair/repaint the window sill nor trim the bleached portions of the shrub – he said I could do that.

Furthermore, there was no acknowledgement that such problem/s could occur and offered to help or refund portion of the $250 fee.

He was totally dismissive of my concerns.

His company is supposedly insured and licensed. If that is correct I would think there would be some accountability of the inappropriate management of the power washing job.

I also told him that from what I read that windows are which he also denied. Perhaps that is a judgment call. However, the water left windows cloudy and the chemical and water to the house itself was somewhat streaked. to be or should be covered

It appears to have been a fast and bad job simply to get it done regardless of the consequences. It is unfortunate that this situation occurred because there would have been other jobs for this company but their lack of professionalism and ethics are called into question and I will no longer deal with this company. That is not to say they need to be held accountable to preserve their reputation and future business in the local area.Desired Settlement: Reduce the amount of the service cost and repair the area where paint was shredded off one window on back deck enclosed porch. The shrub that was damaged may not recover. I have trimmed what I could of the bleached limbs of the shrub to see if it will recover. I was told to do this myself. No acknowledgement that there was the possibility that blowback from power washing and chemical could have caused the problem. Also water was found inside my garage as well under the house which I believe is due to excessive power used. The person he had performing the job was new - as I was told - and apparently not well trained in power-washing or because it was a Friday that was in too much haste before the weekend to do an adequate job that is expected.
