I scheduled a consultation for sisterlocks ($40.00 fee) with the salon owner in late April 2019 for a July appointment date. 2 days later, I canceled the consultation because I found out what my school schedule was going to be in the summer and that date didn’t work. A few days later, I contacted the salon by phone and email to reschedule over the course of a week or so. For many days I received no answer. I went by the shop to talk to someone in person. No one was there during regular business hours. Come to find out the salon was closed because she was on vacation.
Once I did get a hold of her via email, she suggested I reschedule through the site. I explained that doing so will result in an additional $40 consultation fee that I wanted to avoid. We went back and fourth through email for several weeks and ultimately in early June, she asked when I wanted to reschedule. I emailed her a date for August 2019. She never responded to book me for a rescheduled sisterlocks consultation! I’m a full time student and mom of 2 so I went on about my life after not hearing back.
Note: the site does say consultation fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. However, site mentions nothing about being charged again if you have to reschedule (except if you cancel before 48 hours of the appointment date-and this was not the case). The owner failed to respond to my rescheduling request. And there is nothing on the site saying anything about a statute of limitations from when paying for a consultation and actually having the service performed.
So fast forward to May 2020. I email the salon owner to get this service performed that I paid for in April 2019. She tells me I would have to pay a second sisterlocks consultation fee ($40) to book my appointment, despite already paying for one almost a year ago which fell through because she never responded to my appointment request. I say that’s fine and asked if the initial fee I paid in April 2019 and this second consultation fee could be applied to the sisterlocks installation fee. After several days of dancing around giving me a straight answer, she finally said both consultation fees won’t go towards the cost of the sisterlocks installation! She said the consultation fee is a separate fee from the installation service. On the site the ‘sisterlocks package’ they offer includes the consultation, service, and 2week follow-up I believe. Yet they have a separate fee for the consultation (which many salons do) that DOES NOT go towards the cost of installation (other salons Usually apply the consultation fee towards the installation fee). Essentially she’s telling me I will be out of $80 dollars for a single consultation service that won’t even go toward the cost of the sisterlocks installation. Give me a break! Sure business are hurting for money right now during The COVID-19 pandemic, but so is everyone else including patrons. Instead of me potentially paying her well over $800-1000 for sisterlocks installation, she wanted to juice me for $80. They’re obviously not hurting too bad. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere and you should too!

On Tuesday, January 21st at 10am, I paid $25 for an Inter-locs consultation and met with ***. She looked at and touched my hair and told me that my currently twisted hair could be converted through inter-locs and was quoted the price to do so. She also measured my hair to start new interlocs (8 inches) and I told her that's not what I wanted. She told me I didn't need to start fresh interlocs and that I could have my twists converted. I was also told that any stylist could do it. Before I left we started the process of booking the appointment to convert and decided on Jan 28th while still in the shop (I have email to confirm). Before paying the $50 deposit in the store I told her I wasn't sure of my work schedule and wanted to check before I locked in that day. She said I could pay the $50 deposit now and I could cancel as long as it was more than 48 hours before the day. I still wanted to make sure it worked with my schedule. I told her I would book online and she told me the exact service to book (converting locs to Inter-locs for $140). I did so. On Feb 1st I booked the appointment to convert my twists into interlocs with the shop owner *** because I was told she did great work. On Feb 2nd, *** emailed me stating that my hair would need to be loc’d in order to provide the service I booked, and my hair is not loc’d. This is impossible as hair cannot be loc’d overnight or in months. *** then asked me to come in to be quoted a price to start my hair with starter interloc but that's not the service I asked for or booked online with my $50 deposit. Now, *** has refused to return my $50.00 deposit, and my email communications. I followed all the steps I was instructed. *** is trying to force me to get a service that I never asked for and that’s not right. I looked at the business website and none of the cancellation terms apply to a service that can't be provided. I have emails, policies and confirmations to support everything mentioned in this report.
