Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2016/10/26) */
An original bid of $[redacted] was submitted for the job in question. This initial bid was rejected. Being made aware that the husband was a disabled veteran, and that they were trying to help other veterans, we wanted to lend a hand since we are a...

disabled veteran run business. Two subsequent bids were placed. The second bid reflected a steep discount, which would be applied at the owner of our company's expense, as he would have to cover any wage gaps for the crew out of pocket, if any occurred. The third bid reflected this same discount, but also a reduced crew size. Both of these bids were rejected, as well. At this point, we were informed that they could only afford $[redacted]. We told them that we could not complete all of the work they wanted done for this price. What we could do is give them two crew members for 4 days to complete the work they could get done without going over this limit (no set amount of hours was ever stated or agreed upon, and it is not within the clients' rights to decide how much our employees get paid). We do have an audio file from the final walk thru, after the work was done, in which the Wife reiterates this final agreement, even noting that they had to cut half of the work from their list, proving that she was fully aware of said agreement.
With the Husband's supervision, and with them supplying the materials, we completed as much of the work as possible in the outlined time frame. The work done included, but was not limited to: end to end rough in plumbing with pex line, installing a shower surround in preexisting framed area, installation of drywall (it should be noted that the sheet-rock supplied was molded and crumbling due to improper storage for a prolonged period, and that when we informed the husband of the condition of the sheet rock, he said to use it anyway--they could not afford to replace it), applied 1st tape and float to drywall--not sanded or finished (again it should be noted that the provided material was sub par--the mud was partially set up and 'chunky', but when asked to provide fresh mud for a better finish, the husband stated that he 'didn't really care what it looked like'), installation of specified outlets. The outlets installed were attached to the existing wiring, no grounds were cut by our crew. We had, however, come in to the site after numerous other laborers, and cannot speak for the quality of work (or lack of) that any of these unknown previous workers performed. We moved all the main plumbing for the stool and shower including water lines, installed a finish ceiling (with instruction and supervision of the husband), and relocated the drain for the vanity, because the previous framing for the shower wall was too short for the surround. We also built a handicap toilet and short wall for assisted standing. Mr. (blank) was present for the vent fan/light installation--he was informed that it needed to be vented. His instruction was, in his own words, for us to "stuff it up in there and vent it into the ceiling". All of the work performed was done to the best of our abilities given the material provided, instructions received, and considering the time frame. The tape and float on the drywall did need the finish float and sanding; it could have been easily finished given enough time.
We have an audio file of the final walk thru, a work order of services rendered, and pictures of all work that was completed. We will readily supply any or all of these if it will help to settle this matter.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 11, 2016/10/31) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
There was never an original bid of $[redacted] the initial bid was given over the phone for $[redacted]. I told him that we couldn't afford $[redacted] he asked what we could afford I told him it was too big of a difference that I only had $[redacted] to spend right now. He told me at that point that he would re-figure and call me back. When he called me back he said he would take the job, my husband who answered the phone asked him for $[redacted] and he said yes. There was never any mention of four days or of only doing part of the work. They did say that they were giving us the lower bid because we were disabled veterans trying to help other disabled veterans.
We did supply the materials and my husband did try to supervise the workers, but a lot of the time they did not do things the way we said to do them. And many times they did things we said not to do. The drywall that he said had mold, didn't it was broken on one corner, he just had to cut off one end. Because we thought they were doing us a favor and giving us a lower bid we personally decided that we would do the flooring and rebuild the walls that was not anything agreed on it was something that we chose to do because we thought they were giving us a good deal. And they did not use the drywall tape that we supplied and that is one of the reasons why the drywall was done wrong the taping that they used would have shown through the mud there was nothing wrong with the mud that they couldn't get around, most of it was still good, in fact the drywaller who came and fixed it use the same mud.
According to the statement that he gave us at the close of his work, the things that were done right was framing an extension wall and a half in the bathroom and installing a shower surround. Would have at full price cost $[redacted]. The other items on the bill he either did wrong or was not told to do in the first place.
He was never told to move the drain to the sink in the bathroom and the toilet drain he only had to put an 4" extension on it. The shower drain did have to be moved. My husband or I did not tell him to stuff the vent in there. Nor were they told that he didn't care how it looked. And if they did this work to the best of their abilities they should not work in construction I've been around construction work for many years and I've never seen such a shoddy job.
Anyone looking to the Revdex.com to find out about this company 3E Construction should see that they did a bad job and did not keep their word as to the bid they gave us.
