Thank you for your recent letter dated April 26. 2016. I felt your thorough letter deserved a response. I am sorry to hear that you did not have a rewarding experience here. I am also concerned that your former dentist did not find any disease in your mouth. I understood your frustration when you...

told me " you didn't want your teeth to be rotting" and that you understood your condition will get worse. You indicated a desire to get your teeth healthier but realized you had alot of debt and were also planning on going back to school soon. This must have created alot of stress form you. After reviewing the cost to fill cavities on three teeth, you stated that you would see if your parents could help you pay for this. As we try to help all our patients  with several payment options, you elected not to use care credit, a health payment plan, based on your credit situation. You left our office stating that you wanted to look into other options that may help you afford the treatment and that we could expect a follow up call from you in the upcoming week. When we did  not hear from you, we sent you a follow up letter of concern. [redacted], the seven fillings we recommended you replace were old fillings that you said were done when you were a child. The average life span of a filling is 5 to 10 years and three of those had cracks in them, allowing more bacteria to grow in that area. When detected early, we are proactive to fill the cavities before a patient feels any pain. The attached photos show you again the black cavities and fracture lines in your teeth. I want to personally reassure you that the cavities around those old fillings are real and will get worse over time as you mentioned in our conversation. Dentists can be trained differently and not all dentists are trained to perform a "comprehensive exam". I feel that my supplemental training insures the best dental care for our patients. We make sure the patients comprehensive exam includes photos as well as study models which show fractures or cracks that are not detected with regular office exam which you may have had recently. My entire team and I believe in the importance of addressing all problems immediately. [redacted], we have many patients that appreciate how forthright we are in reviewing dental costs and assisting them with fitting those costs into their budget so they can get healthy. Knowing costs up front works out much then getting a bill in the mail with a surprise payment due. One of those reasons that we ask for prepayment is to be sure that our patients are financially stable and that we are not adding any stress to their lives with an unexpected financial burden.
