While I was on my computer, I got a popup warning that filled the entire screen, and had audio voice telling me that my device had a virus. The screen was locked, so I couldn't do anything else on the computer. The phone# listed on the screen was 855-518-8418. I was told (by Vince at Zavions LLC) that they were tech support for Microsoft based out of Texas, and that I had a virus on my computer, and they could fix the problem, but needed to be remotely connected to my computer. Against my better judgement, I allowed access. I was transfered to Nicki who took my credit card info and had me virtually sign for my Zavions LLC invoice to charge $299.99 for OTF Computer Support + Accessories Fix PC tune up, and Zavions Service Contract @ RightSignature.com, and that she would save the aforementioned documents on my computer, which she did while I was watching the screen. Then a tech named Mike was to be the one to fix the problem, that it would take 1 1/2 hrs to complete, which it did because I sat in front of the computer the entire time. Mike downloaded and installed Malwarebytes software, Google Chrome and an IE browser - both with an Adblock program attached. He also saved a notepad to my desktop which when clicked on shows Zavions LLC 1(800)485-6316 [email protected]. The next day, Nicki called me back from 1-972-372-0282 to ask me if my computer was working okay.
I have since talked to Microsoft who said they do not employ Zavions for their tech support, and that they do not call or use popup screens like the one mentioned above to inform customers of virus infection.
The more I think about this and the more people I talk to, make me believe this is a scam! Therefore, I have taken steps to protect myself.
Please note: that everyone I talked to at Zavions (Vince, Nicki, and Mike) had an Indian accent.
