Zevco Contracting Inc. Reviews (1)

Review: We hired and contracted Crossroads Construction to do a bathroom renovation they have same address, different phone number(###-###-####) and email [redacted]. It was a father/son team. They did not start when they said they would. There would be days when no one would show up. It went from a 2 week to 3 week reno to over two months. When we received the first receipt for payment it was on Zevco paper. The son said he started a company in his own name and that it was no big deal. Work (tile, tape and spackle, electric etc) was subpar. The son [redacted]. came into my home and screamed at my mother and myself. And my husband received a voicemail that was threatening towards me. When we fired him he text messaged and left voicemails for my husband that were completely unprofessional. I had to block his number because he was harassing us. He took advantage of my husband and myself and so did the father who said he would make everything right and then disappeared leaving it to his son. I just found out my floor is pitched away from the shower drain when it should have been pitched towards it because we did a barrier free bathroom for my handicapped father. And the plumbing apparently done by a non licensed plumber is not to code. None of the vendors he used were licensed. And both Zevco and Crossroads were not licensed at the time this happened and they did a lot of work in my town after the flooding from Hurricane Sandy. They used sheetrock you usually don't use in bathrooms. The tape and spackle job was horrible. The tile work in my shower was not done correctly and is popping out in corners, the border was sunk in when it shouldn't be. The electrical work was sloppy lights were hung lopsided. He told me I did not need permits. And he tried to give me change orders after they did work. The change orders came about because of errors they made.Desired Settlement: I have filed a complaint with Nassau County Consumer affairs as well regarding the non-licensed issue. My husband and I feel that a $3,000 refund to put towards their mistakes and finish the job would be fair.

Business

Response:

I [redacted] am the [redacted] Zevco Contracting Inc. The first job I took on as a [redacted] was at [redacted], with about 10 years experience in construction. I applied for my licenses through Nassau County and received "date of issue" as of 5/**/2013. I applied at the end of January and was verbally given the go ahead to complete work in Nassau county when I called the clerks office because they were so backed up due to hurricane Sandy. When I started my business I purchased general liability and workers compensation insurance.

The email I can be reached at is [redacted] - I previously worked for Crossroads Construction before starting my own business. I made the mistake of using Crossroads letterhead for my proposal but thereafter all paperwork communicated to the home owner was on Zevco letterhead. I've notarized a letter stating as such with the final invoice attached - which I've sent to Nassau county as well as the home owner. I started the job and the homeowner [redacted] semi-completed the demolition of the bathroom on his own. When meeting with [redacted] before the job started and as it progressed, she appeared to be a honest individual, which unfortunately wasn't the case. I was told by the homeowner that they had secured the permit, which wasn't the case. I advised the homeowner to hire an architect but they did not and I had a hand written drawing to complete the job off of. Finance was the issue with the homeowner from day one as my initial estimate was close to $20,000 and I took on the job for $15,000. Walls were changed/added, closets were added, the steam heater in the bathroom was moved, the first day on the job I had my two men complete the demo which wasn't completed as promised, electrical outlets and switches were added above the contract, 4 different ceramic tile applications were used in the bathroom conversion. Each and every time an issue arose that was in addition to the contract I verbally let [redacted] know my intentions and the cost associated with each change. I was verbally given the go ahead and after the work was completed I wrote up additional work orders to correspond to the work that had been discussed and completed. The home owner asked me to agree to $2,000 for $8,000 of work that had been completed. I was then told not to come back to the residence after I asked the homeowner to agree to pay me in full before I completed punch list items. One bathroom was converted to 1.5 bath s and the job overall came out great. I simply wanted assurance I would be paid in full after I completed punch list - instead I was told not to come back. The floor at the shower drain is pitched toward the drain. All the vendors used were licensed and insured.

The last meeting at the house, I was bombarded by 5 members of the family that live in the house. At no point in time did I attempt to take advantage of anyone, if fact I was the one taken advantage of by completing all necessary additional work with verbal consent from the homeowner. I tried to complete the job in a timely fashion but the design was constantly changing and this didn't allow for me to complete the job in the desired amount of time.

The statement that change orders came about because of errors I made is ridiculous as I still have the original copy which was handed to me the first time we met. A picture is worth a thousand words. I would appreciate being paid in full the $8,040 that I am owed.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Dear [redacted],

I apologize for not responding to the email marked 9/**/2013. I did not see it in my email inbox and have now only seen it for the first time on the Revdex.com website.

The response from the contractor is nothing but lies. I have been pursuing action with Nassau County. He was never given the go ahead and they are trying to fine him for working without a license. We were told by him that we did not need permits or an architect. And we have multiple issues with the bathroom as stated in the original complaint. No resolution has been made. The contractor is not even trying to work with the Nassau County Consumer Affairs department. At this time we might be forced to take legal action. We were trying to go through the proper channels in hopes that [redacted] would give us some of our money back.

Thank you for your time.

And I apologize again for not responding earlier but I did not receive an email alerting me to his response. The last email I saw stated that the Revdex.com still had not received one from him. Please note again that this issue has not been resolved.

Sincerely,
