Jim Sorensen's Piano Tuning

Jim has been tuning my piano for several years. He is very reliable and prompt. A professional with expert knowledge and skill, he takes his time to be thorough in his task of keeping my piano performing at its very best.

I hired Jim to tune an eighty year old upright oak piano. He was able to raise the pitch and fine tune it in a couple of hours. He was courteous and knew his business. My wife and I are very satisfied.

Jim was beyond wonderful! Our piano was in dire straights and he was willing to do his best to fix it even though it didn't look like it would be able to withstand a tuning. And to our surprise it held up wonderfully! I am so glad he was willing to work on it even though it appeared to be past saving! Finding a piano tuner is worse than finding a new doctor for myself. Panic, terror, fear are my words of choice. Complicate that by moving a full concert grand from a cool, damp, coastal climate to a hot, dry desert climate.

I had names of three tuners. Only one called me back, and he has so much work in his large city that he does not come to my smaller town. Now what?

On the internet I found Jim, whose bio said "perfect pitch, plays classical, composes, tunes by ear..." and I thought that perhaps this is my guy.

Tuning by ear not by instrument is something I hadn't had done since the 1970's, and it seemed painful during the process.

I liked the work when it was finished, and we could have talked about music for hours. "Oh, listen to this passage." or, "Here's one!." or "Have you ever played this?"

I refrained from commenting for two or three days to really listen when I was alone in the house. I played scales through the circle of fifths, and again, playing through in thirds. Then I pulled out some heavy duty classics.

I knew something was very good when I got a mental image of tone, just looking at the keys. Every note is going to be just where I want it.

Bottom line: This is my guy. He understands everything about a piano and its owner.

Jim Sorensen has been tuning our piano for many years, consistently doing an excellent job. He tunes basically by ear, and takes his time to make sure the piano sounds perfectly in tune. Jim is professional and friendly. He was able to fix and tune our ancient piano. I'm glad we hired Jim because it is quite obvious he is extremely talented and knowledge able with fixing and tuning. He knew how to handle old finicky strings with delicacy and preciseness so they wouldn't break during the process. He also fixed the pedals and "sticky" keys. My piano sounds like new, it is a miracle! We also very much enjoyed Jim's mini concert afterwards!
