Review: Due to shabby and unethical reconstruction practices, a portion of a parapet wall collapsed. The contractor wanted to negotiate a new contract. When we refused a threat was made to pull the workers off the job.

Previously, numerous attempts were made to contact, [redacted], The person who gave us the estimate upon which the contract is based. Our calls were not returned.

According to our understanding, The parapet wall, truing and chimney would have been completed before the roofing.

The roofing is not complete.

After the adjacent roof was damaged, Code Enforcement and the Emergency Department was called. Code Enforcement said there was no permit, and there would be a fine, and the chimney required a lining, to meet the codes. The contract states the chimney would be built "per code". The contractor wants us to pay for that,we declined.Desired Settlement: Complete the job according to the contract within a reasonable time frame. Pay for roof antenna ,mount and support straps which was removed without consultation.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:The roofing is not complete and what was done was unprofessional. I requested a responsible person view my complaint. [redacted] said he would send [redacted] who arrived with another worker. The problems were explained to [redacted] who ask the worker to go with me to the roof and take pictures. A-1 was responsible for repairing the garage roof after a portion of, my parafet wall, callasped on it. The repair was very professional and does not compare to what was done to my roof. I expect nothing less since the company is capable of professional quality work. What is the problem?I don't know how to sent attachments so, I will mail photos taken of the completed, and required work to complete the job.

Regards,

We had an excellent experience with the company. The workers were friendly and efficient. Explained everything, got to work quickly and cleaned up the job site. The weather was bad so the roof work had to be delayed but as soon as it cleared they were back and finished the job. We would definitely recommend them.

Review: September 21, 2014

These are the events that have occurred:

I called [redacted] from A1 Affordable Construction, the same week they finished the roof and chimney at my house in Jersey City. He immediately returned to my house after I called him. I called him about four or five more times to come because the roof continued to leak, and every time he or some of his workers came out to my house. Every time I called, the men would go onto the roof, but I would have the same problem, the roof continued to leak. Sometimes they came and told me that there was no problem because they did not see water was on the floor.

I called a home inspector to take a look at the roof. He completed an assessment and gave me a report. The inspector suggested that I call the contractor again and ask him to fix the problem. I did, but it was to no avail. Throughout the entire time, I continued to call the Revdex.com.

At the present time, the water damages have increased. The ceiling in the kitchen and bathroom has now suffered damage. The electrical wiring on the top floor of my house is completely damaged. I smelled something burning and heard noises, and turned all of the electricity off in my house. I called an electrician, and he had to remove the rest of the ceiling of the bathroom in order to allow the wiring to dry out from the water leaking from the roof. Now, I cannot use any electricity on the top floor of my house where the only bathroom is and all of the bedrooms. I sleep in the living room, the first floor of the house where there is still electricity.Desired Settlement: I desire replacement of my roof and payment for the additional damages caused by a faulty job.

I returned several times to address this customer concern. there is a cast iron pipe that is ran through the house. I recommended the pipe be changed and customer advised her plumber would change a section of the pipe. On a different occasion I recommended, at no cost to the customer, closing off the pipe and installing a leader pipe on the exterior of the house. I also explained same to customer's daughter. She said she would call back if problem persisted.I actually made a follow up call at the end of May to find out how we were making out and customer did not return my call. At this point I figured the plumber had repaired the section of the pipe and the problem was resolved.During this process, customer stopped payment on check and reissued check after we reviewed her concern together. This is the first I am hearing about this since. As offered months ago, I will still, at no charge, close off the pipe and install leader pipe on the exterior of house.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: I do not want a drain. I paid for a new roof, I want a new roof. I asked for a new roof, and was given a re-roof. I asked him to fix the roof, now he wants to give me a drain for free. I don't want a drain. I want a new roof because that's what I paid for.

Response:

Please be advised that a new roof was installed, not a re roof as [redacted] has indicated in her complaint. The roof on the home is not leaking. The drain that runs throughout the house is leaking which a plumber has attempted to repair for her. The only way to stop the leak is to change the pipe. We are advising that [redacted] contact the plumber to repair the issue or we can provide a proposal to install new pipe through the house. Again, we are more than happy to go back to the house to evaluate this situation. [redacted] has not returned any of our calls to set up a time that would be mutually convenient for both of us.

Review: We have contacted A-1 Affordable in numerous times by phone and email. We paid $29,000 for job including front porch and bilco doors. We have reported to A-1 Affordable water leaking problems in both of these areas. Water has been leaking inside the basement through both areas. The front port is pitching inward, and so, every time snow melted or rained, the water has damaged the basement wall underneath creating a water issue in the basement. On the other hand, the bilco door is pitching inwards into the basement. Water has come inside the basement through the bilco door -in various occasions- damaging the floor and walls of the just finished basement. A-1 Affordable has performed some repairs. However, water is still leaking into the basement. Every time it rains there is a water problem. We contacted the company asking for a permanent solution. Three weeks have passed and A-1 Affordable have not returned our call or visited us to provide a permanent solution.Desired Settlement: We request A1-Affordable to refund us for the job done in our home. Poor building of front porch and bilco door has damaged basement already. Since A1-Affordable has not presented/implemented a permanent solution, we will appreciate our money back. Thank you for your help.

This job is being worked on and is expected to be completed by Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on the weather. The limestone is being set and then we need to pour concrete to satisfy this complaint. I will provide status as soon as this happens. Thank you.

Review: After having a complete roof done I noticed pieces of plywood in two different areas sticking out from underneath new shingles which I feel is poor workmanship. I noticed this just a few days after work was complete so I contacted [redacted] from A1 affordable to basically get the run around because to date the issue has not been resolved. The original date work was preformed was 10/29/13 and they have been back to 2-3 times for other issues. Another problem was the rear gutter they installed poorly which caused damage inside my house. Second floor tenant I had to remove carpet and the first floor were I reside the ceiling fell and ceiling fan was damaged. It toke these guys 2 or 3 days to come out to take a look. These guys DO NOT HONOR THERE WORK!!!!!. I have reached out to them on several Occassions speaking to [redacted] and [redacted] who is the owner. SO THEY ALL KNOW ABOUT MY CONCERNS.....Desired Settlement: I WANT MY ROOF FIXED PROPERLY......THE ROOF SHOULD BE FLAT !!!NOT HAVING WOOD STICKING OUT THE FRONT OF SHINGLES..... I CAN'T BELEAVE THEY LEFT IT THAT WAY!!!

ALSO WANT THE DAMAGE REPAIRED INSIDE MY HOUSE CAUSED BY POOR WORKMANSHIP ON REAR GUTTER....WORKER ADMITTED INSTALLED WRONG.

DAMAGE CONSIST ONE ROOM OF CARPET SECOND FLOOR..

FIRST FLOOR SHEETROCK REPAIR AFTER CEILING DROP..... AND REPLACEMENT OF FIRST FLOOR CEILING FAN

Response:

Homeowner called regarding wood being exposed on front peak of house. A-1 technicians went back to address the concern. Homeowner complained that he had a leak in the rear of the house, A-1 technicians went back and evaluated the roof while homeowner was present and explained that the leak is not part of the job that A-1 Affordable was contracted to complete. Rear flat rubber roof is not part of the contract. The attached contract specifies that the repairs are for the shingles only. This job was paid through homeowner's insurance (not paid by homeowner) and the flat roof was not part of the claim. Homeowner did not wish to pay additional money for the flat roof even though it was highly recommended that the flat roof get replaced due to its very poor condition. Because of the condition of the roof, in good faith effort A-1 Affordable applied new GAF flat roof membrane at NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE HOMEOWNER to try to keep customer happy. The interior damage is due to the rear flat roof and was EXISTING prior to us starting work on the shingle roof. This damage is in no way related to any work that we did as you can see by the pictures provided by the homeowner, the flat roof is cracked and deteriorated. The gutter has nothing to do with this damage claim. Please see attached contract. Permit for this job has passed.

Complaint[redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: These guys I see would say anything to get the job and it was only what they (A1affordable)Offered that they got the bid. But after the job was complete I asked [redacted] why didn't you do what we agreed on and he gave me some lame excuse....If there were a problem it should have been addressed... There were two other companies that I were in talks with. These guys don't stand behind there work and they lie.....Examples...There work order that I supplied clearly states that gutters were replaced front and rear of house upper level...And also as an note when your sub contractors came out the first time they said that the rear gutter was not installed correctly. At this time it wasn't leaking that bad but the next time I called for the same problem, water was coming in my house pretty bad and it took these guys two days to get someone to come out and that was sad...I have pictures were they just butted gutter against roof were I would think it would need to be slid under roof to leave a good seal point. Another problem I have is the two separate pieces of wood that are sticking out the front right side of my roof. The forms I will be sending clearly shows were I emailed company with concerns before final inspection but a1affordable choose to send no one out until inspection was done...AGAIN...No one seems to know why my roof was left in this condition....As far as the eye could see on my street.. I DON'T SEE WOOD STICKING OUT OF ANYONE ELSE'S HOUSE WITH A NEW ROOF OR OLD ONE....THESE PEOPLE HAVE STRINGING ME ALONG FOR MONTHS....THEY DON'T WANT TO EXCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR SLOPPY WORKMANSHIP THAT CAUSED MY SECOND FLOOR TENANT TO REMOVE CARPET AND CAUSING MY CIELING TO DROP AN RUINED CIELING FAN IN MY APARTMENT. AS A FINAL NOTE..I ALSO SPOKE TO THE OWNER ([redacted]) WHO ASSURED ME AFTER RETURNING FROM VACATION HE WOULD PERSONALLY COME BY TO MAKE SURE THINGS WERE IN ORDER.....HE NEVER DID......

Review: The ceiling in our bedroom and 2nd floor bathroom is showing water damage. The company has been contacted 3 times and responded with an inspector who promised to return and correct the problem.

The contractor stated only the upper roof was done by them. This is not true, the contract states " Rip entire roof down to Wood"Desired Settlement: Redo entire roof and or fix current problem and repair ceiling in bedroom and bathroom , which are a result of water damage.

A complaint was filed with the Revdex.com on 4-13-2013 regarding shoddy and unethical reconstruction practices. Correction were made and we were satisfied until this water damage and claims that the company is not responsible for the entire roof and its condition.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: The ceilings in the bathroom and bedroom have been damaged due to water from the roof. The person who came saw that damage and did nothing. WE can have it repaired but, feel if the roof had been properly repaired we would not have the ceiling damage. We can't tell if the situation has been corrected until the ceiling is repaired and no other damage occur.

Review: A-1 Affordable Construction Inc. was hired on February 19, 2014 to remove 3 feet of snow around the front and back edges of the roof as well as around the skylight. I suspected that there was damage to the roof, as when the snow melted (that was shoved from the roof), there were pieces of shingle on the ground. I was first able to go up on the roof this weekend. There was very specific damage to the roof ONLY in the three foot area of work on the front and back of the roof as well as around the skylight area. This includes damage consistent with a flat object (i.e. shovel) being slammed hard into the roof making indentations and deep marks as well as scraping damage that tore off parts of shingles. There is no damage to the roof outside the work zone. I called A-1 roofing and provided pictures. I spoke with [redacted], who claims to be the "manager". He was immediately dismissive and told me that they had nothing to do with the damage-and that it was the "weather". I explained that there was no damage to the roof in any other location than where the work occurred per the contract and directed his attention to the pictures. He than said "they don't show me nothin''. I explained that I could certainly understand that perhaps the best way to see the actual damage was to get up on the roof, which I offered to do with a representative from A-1 and discuss the damage in question. He at first refused to send anybody out to the house. He then stated he would send a representative and they would give me an estimate for any repair work that needed to be done because "they were not doing any work for free". I have other roofing professionals that have verified that the damage is not "weather related" and would be consistent with the improper use of a shovel. I have tried to work work with A-1, but [redacted] is not interested in even discussing anything. He told me to take a hike. When I mentioned the Revdex.com and court action he laughed and hung up on me.Desired Settlement: I would like a formal complaint opened and posted on the Revdex.com site and I would like them to pay for the repair work to my roof. I WILL NOT let anybody from A-1 do any additional work (after the way I have now been treated by the company)-at a minimum my expectation is they refund the full amount of the job $850.

Response:

Since we have been in receipt of Mr. Ross' complaint about the roof, we have reached out to him several times in the past two days to try to schedule an appointment to review the damages in person or at the very least have a discussion over the phone. No one told him we were looking for more money. If he does not return our calls, he is denying A-1 Affordable the opportunity to remedy this issue and therefore this complaint should be deleted by the Revdex.com.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

I have received two calls from A-1 in the last two days. One on a home phone and one on my cell earlier today. A gentleman named [redacted] has left both messages (not several as indicated). I have not been availble to return the call over ther last 24 hours. I will try to do so today-Friday May 29. When I called last week and spoke twice to [redacted], even after providing visual evidence and inviting A-1 to come to the house, A-1's position via [redacted] was that they did not cause any damage. And [redacted] ABSOLUTELY stated that if they came to the house, any proposed repair would be at my expense. I have offered A-1 all along the opportunity to come to the house and review the damage in person. [redacted] did indicate in his last call that they would like to at least come out to the house. This is completely opposite the clear position that [redacted] articulated so I am not sure which is the truth at this point. I will absolutely afford A-1 the opportunity to look at the roof in person. I am confident that if reasonable, they will see the damage is not "weather related" as [redacted] stated with absolute certainly-despite never being at my house. Two reputable roofers have reviewed the damage and confirmed this is consistent with snow removal and not "weather".

I wish to continue to leave this claim as open until such time as A-1 comes to the house to review the damage and we agree upon a course of action.

Revdex.com:

Before quickly stating that you are closing this case as unresolved you should do your homework. As with many of the other complaints, you are not concerned with the outcome of what we have done as a reputable company to remedy our customer's complaints but yet quick to drop our grade as low as it can go without follow up. Very irresponsible on your part with a company that has done its best to satisfy every single complaint against us.

As per customer, there was an email sent stating that A-1 Affordable has resolved this issue. Did you get that? If you did not why don't you follow up with customer so we can close this case as resolved and not "unresolved".

A-1 Affordable has gone out and made certain that this customer was satisfied 100%, as we do with the majority of our customers.

provided an e-mail regarding this case previously. I appreciate all your help in this matter. The owner of A-1 and I have worked together and they have provided an acceptable solution to the concern I identified. I am satisfied how they resolved the identified issue (complaint ID [redacted]) and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Review: A1 affordable suggested additional roof drains to correct a small leak that occured only during heavy rainfalls. They made a complete mess of the building, disturbed other tenants, ruined the carpet with roof tar, cleaned nothing and left.

THE FIRST LIGHT RAINFALL MY CEILING TILES COLLAPSED AND MORE RAIN CAME THROUGH THE ROOF THAN THROUGH THE RAIN GUTTERS.

This is a fly by night operator with criminal like employees that have zero skills in anything to do with roofing or construction and worse customer service skills.Desired Settlement: firstly, to correct the problem they caused , then to make the PROPER install

lastly to compensate for about $4000 in damages, including laptop and electrinics and to clean the office space to get it back to usable condition
