Do not do business with AAA!! I use to take my car to the AAA in Grandview Heights for an oil change because of the convenience of the location to my work. However, each time I went in they found an "issue" with my car. One time, after taking my car in for an oil change I noticed a leak from the radiator hose that was not there before I took the car in and they would not admit fault. Another time they said my sway bar was loose. I waited a year before taking it back into this shop. After the oil change, I asked how the sway bar looked...the rep said "great no issues". I still had the print out from them showing they suggested replacing it. Recently I had to have my timing belt replaced ...again...AAA worked on it at 179k miles ..I have only driven the car 50k miles since then. The place I take my car to now said AAA did not replace the seals and broke my PCV housing box and oil dipstick. Glad I found a good mechanic and do not have to do business with AAA any longer! Saving a lot of money.

Consumer states:"Dear Revdex.com I am writing to tell you about a recent experience that I had with AAA. You see I came to Ohio one year ago to help settle my (late) uncles estate. Everything that he left will be sold off to pay off his many debts. His car will be sold off first and because his health had been failing for several years he was no longer driving so he had the battery removed as a deturat (deterrent) for any thives (theives) in this poor neighborhood. It's a 1999 Camaro Z28 with a Corvette engine wiht only 41,000 miles on it. Shortly after I arrived I paid have it thoroughly "cleaned up" then called AAA to come and istall a new battery for $166.00! It then started right up and I would start it up about every two weeks and everything seemed fine until sseveral months later it would no longer start. I then called AAA once again and told them that it was dead and I would need a jump. Now they asked me if the car had "current plates" and when I replyed (replied) No they told me that they would only come out if I paid them $45.00! Keep in mind that my new battery came with a warranty. They gave me no choice so I paid the $45.00 and then they came out and gave me a jump start. However, the next day I went to start it up and it was dead yet again! Again when I called they told me that would be another $45.00! The car has not been driven in over six years but whoever does buy it will certainly want a car that starts up! Again, I've been here for just over a year and I'll be 69 in July and social security is my only source of income! The attorney fee is now over $7,000.00 and I've now maxed out my credit card! Why? they never asked me about "current plates" when put in the new battery seems more than strange to me!I've been a member of AAA for 29 years but after this experience its now very doubtful that I will renew my membership this coming January!

Date: Wed, Jul 1, 2020 at 7:26 PMSubject: Re: You have a new message from the Revdex.com of Central Ohio in regards to your complaint #***.Hello, AAA has called Me and I've accepted Thier offer! I know that this would NOT have happened with out Your assistance and I can't Thank You enough! However, the acceptance from that You sent was SO Small that I could not make it out! I even used a magnifying glass! I hope that I did it right, if not, contact Me again and I do it over. Thanks so much for your help!

Horrible customer service. Car was at impound lot AAA sends negative nancy for help. Tow driver arrives. Laughs at the damage to my car. I informed tow driver he Stacey was unprofessional. Tow driver drops car unhitched it. I had to kiss you know what to get my car home. Driver said my son was an ae. This guy had some real ego issues. Very confrontational; inappropriate and unprofessional. Do not use this company for a membership you will be very disappointed!!

Took my car into them 4 different times, when at most, it should have been 2. I needed my air conditioning fixed. It really only worked last summer after they FINALLY "fixed" it. Now, it is not working again and is past their warranty period. In total, I spent $1500.00+. It should have been fixed right. Very upset.

AAA Ohio Auto Club Response • Jun 03, 2020

AAA Car Care Plus worked on this vehicle in 2018 and 2019. So far, in 2020, AAA has not inspected this vehicle. If there is a problem with the Air Conditioning as we transition into Summer AAA Car Care Plus would be glad to take another look at no charge.

I booked a family trip to *** and ***. We had been misinformed from the very first agent, we now have have been passed off to four different people. Long story short, AAA is refusing to refund our *** ticket cost. It is over ***. We did not get to go because the park closed and remains closed. We had every intention of taking the trip. We saved for this trip for a few years. I email the agent twice a week and we still do not have a refund over a month later. Due to the pandemic situation I feel as if the tickets should have been refunded.
We also purchased travel insurance. I asked the agent about every possible situation. She said that we’d be covered if we didn’t get to go and it had nothing to do with us. It does not cover pandemic situations. I would have never spent the money on insurance that we could never use. I feel as if their agents do not know the job they are doing. I have also requested a refund for our insurance. The AAA has stated she has sent them the paperwork to get this done. However, they will not refund our Universal ticket cost that we now can’t use. Our vacation was at the beginning of April. I do have notes from each time we speak and now email correspondence.

AAA Ohio Auto Club Response • May 07, 2020

AAA was able to procure a full refund of the tickets on May 6th, 2020. AAA continues to work with the travel insurance provider in an effort to secure a refund of those monies.

I booked my trip through Florida in August of last year for my daughter and I. I BOUGHT TRAVEL INSURANCE!!! They claim ( AAA ) that the insurance does NOT cover a pandemic. I called American Airlines and they claim it it their policy not to refund and that I needed to take it up with the ones who sold me travel insurance. ( AAA ) I understand that everybody is suffering and must change all plans. Husband has been laid off for a month and I , although a nurse, have had my hours cut! I really could use the money! That's why I bought travel insurance. I consider this fraudulent

SIR;
YOU SAY THAT I WAS FIRST TALKING TO "AAA Ohio Auto Club", & THAT IS WHEN I WAS INFORMED THAT THE MEMBERSHIP IN AAA WOULD BE ***, THAT WAS INCLUDING THE MEMBERSHIP & A *** CHARGE FOR MY 1st SERVICE CALL (MY KEY'S LOCKED IN THE TRUNK OF MY CAR) BECAUSE I WAS NEEDING A SERVICE CALL AT THE SAME TIME AS TAKING OUT MY MEMBERSHIP, THEN YOU SAY THAT THEY TURNED ME OVER TO "The AAA Club in ***", THEN YOU STATE THAT "The AAA Club in *** is an independent Affiliate Club, not A Associate of the AAA Ohio Auto Club", THAT MAKES NO SENSE, I HAD PURCHASED A MEMBERSHIP IN AAA NOT FOR JUST OHIO, BEING A MEMBER OF AAA IS BEING A MEMBER IN ALL OF THE UNITED STATES, ARE YOU SAYING THAT I WOULD NEED 50 MEMBERSHIPS.

THEN YOU SAY "Our counselor advised you the cost would be *** and she could take off *** if you would go on Auto-renewal, which would be ***. That was the amount she took from your credit card to reinstate your membership. After doing that she transferred you over to the Club in ***. We had no other contact with Club in ***."

WHAT HAS THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ME, I WAS A MEMBER OF AAA & YOU WERE CHARGING ME AN EXTRA *** FOR MY FIRST SERVICE CALL. THEN I WAS CHARGED ADDITIONAL *** FOR THE SERVICE CALL.

I SEE THAT ON MY CHARGES FOR 01/12/2020

1. *** a charge of *** with credit of *** for a total charge "PAID IN FULL" ***.

2. AAA OHIO AUTO CLUB 170M 614-431-7878 OHIO A CHARGE OF *** WITH A CREDIT OF *** PAID IN FULL CHARGE OF ***

CHARGED ME FOR THE FIRST SERVICE CALL, WHICH THEY HANDLED WITH, I GUESS, SOMEONE FROM ***, ALL OF THIS WAS DONE BY THE COLUMBUS, OHIO AAA, THEY CHARGED ME FOR THE FIRST SERVICE CALL, AS PER THERE RESPONSE & NOW THEY SAY THAT IT IS NOT THERE PROBLEM. THE LADY THAT HANDLED MY MEMBERSHIP, WAS THE COLUMBUS, OHIO AAA, I MAY I SAY THAT SHE DID NOT KNOW WHAT SHE WAS DOING, SHE KEPT COMING UP WITH DIFFERENT MEMBERSHIP COSTS, WHAT THEY SAY I PAID FOR MY MEMBERSHIP IS CORRECT, & IN THAT MEMBERSHIP COST WAS PAYMENT FOR MY FIRST SERVICE CALL, BECAUSE THEY SAID THAT NEEDING SERVICE AT THE SAME TIME AS BECOMING A MEMBER WAS A CHARGE, SO WHY ARE THEY SAYING THAT THEY ARE NOT LIBEL FOR MY SERVICE CALL, WHICH WAS STATED & UNDERSTOOD THAT I HAD LOCKED MY AUTO KEYS IN THE TRUNK & THAT WAS WHAT THE SERVICE CALL WAS FOR.I PAID FOR A SERVICE MEMBERSHIP FROM AAA, & THEN THEIR REPRESENTATIVE IN *** CHARGED AGAIN FOR THE SERVICE I HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR, IN THE CHARGES FOR MY MEMBERSHIP.MY CONTRACT MEMBERSHIP WAS WITH AAA NOT WITH ANY OTHER SUBTRACTOR THAT THEY HIRE TO HONER THEIR CONTRACT OBLIGATIONS TO ME THE MEMBER, THEY BELIEVE THAT ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR MY NEEDED SERVICE CALL, WHEN THEY CHARGED ME EXTRA FOR THAT SERVICE THAT THEY DO NOT WANT TO HONER, SO WHAT GOOD IS A CONTRACT MEMBERSHIP WITH AAA. AAA IS A SCAM INSURANCE MEMBERSHIP COMPANY, I WILL NEVER FEEL PROTECTED BY HAVING A MEMBERSHIP CONTRACT WITH AAA, THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE, BY CONTRACT MEMBERSHIP, COVERING ANY & ALL SERVICE I REQUIRE FOR AUTO & HIGHWAY SERVICE CLAIM BY CONTRACT & PAYMENT RECEIVED. SO I PAID & FOR THE SERVICE & NOW THEY WANT TO BACK OUT OF THEIR CONTRACT, A MEMBER IN AAA CAN NOT FEEL SAFE WITH A COMPANY THAT DOES NOT, WHEN YOU NEED THEM MOST, WANT TO HONER THEIR CONTRACT OF INSURANCE TO THEIR MEMBERS.

I received a membership renewal bill. The amount due is for $5.00 with a $101 adjustment. I opted to call in my renewal instead of mailing it in. I spoke with 2 agents and a supervisor who are refusing to honor the $5.00 renewal. They said a letter was sent out about the mistake but I asked how I would know that the letter wasn't just sent out today after I called in just so they wouldn't have to honor it. They said all their documents have dates. I told them the renewal I have didn't have a date so there is still no proof of what they are saying is true. I believe that they should honor the renewal that was sent to me.

AAA Ohio Auto Club Response • Feb 13, 2020

AAA Member Relations reached out and explained the error, made an adjustment in our membership system and processed the renewal payment for $5.00.

Starter went out on truck. Called AAA at 505 pm. It is 15 degrees out and told her to hurry because of weather. My bf has copd. I was told I could not leave my vehicle. I was then given 45 minutes,. It goes by with nothing. I call again and was then in turn, recieves a call from a tow company saying 15 mins. When noone showed by 6, I was in severe pain at this point from sitting in the frigid cold. I called again stating that I would af this point need to go to er and was hung up on. I got home by a tow truck that got the call sometime and was in the middle of another tow (car was on back). He got us home at 730 and I have not been the same since then. Cold, sick, coughing. While in the truck (They dont know if im dead or alive) they cancel my tow request so we could have been left out there forever. My first time trying AAA and my last time.t

I called AAA for roadside assistance because I was out of gas. I am a AAA Premier member. I was told that AAA would provide 3 gallons of gas. The service person only brought 2 gallons. We told him that we were Premier members and he said that they normally provide 5 gallons for Premier members but he wasn’t informed the we were Premier members. I called AAA back to get them the rest of the gas that was promised. AAA said that they never heard of giving more than a gallon or two let alone 5. I called back again and asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor told me that they gave me more than enough gas and got snotty with me. The driver (T***) got aggressive and got into my car and took a picture.

Who May Obtain Service +
AAA service is available to a member who is driving or riding in a qualified vehicle that becomes disabled.

The preceding qualifier is from our Scope of Service on the AAA Ohio website.

During the road service event in question, Call *** from August 20th, the AAA contracted provider arrived on scene and alerted the AAA dispatch department that the vehicle was not out of gas (see attached picture). A provider should not have been sent as the vehicle still had an estimated 93 miles until it would become inoperable.

Additionally, the standard for all membership levels (Classic, Plus, Premier) is to provide enough fuel for the disabled vehicle to reach the nearest gas station so the member can refuel at their own expense. The nearest gas station was 0.5 miles away from the location of the service call.

I called twice about service for a broken down vehicle. Both agents I spoke with were very rude and not helpful. The first agent cancelled the reservation and the second was being sarcastic and rude. I ended up speaking to a “manager” who was not very impressive either. I was calling earlier to see if there was an option to upgrade coverage since I was going to have to tow my vehicle 21 total miles. The representative did not answer my question. My membership is set to expire in 45 days, and I thought there could be a potential for this. Now, I am out $92 for a tow bill that should have been $76 plus tax. Tax should not be $16. The driver was nice but ripped us off. In addition, he was driving more than 15 MPH over the speed limit and left us behind multiple times.

AAA Ohio Auto Club Response • Jun 21, 2019

After reviewing the call records and service call information Member Relations has determined that the correct amount was charged for the towing service. Our records indicate a 23 mile tow that a Classic member would be charged 20 over miles for. The first call for service was cancelled because there was not a definitive breakdown location to be entered. On the second call for service our ERS Call Taker did become defensive and we have coached her on that behavior. The facility that provided service will also be notified that the driver was exceeding the speed limit so that issue may be addressed as well.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: the information provided is not accurate. Regardless of the route taken, it’s no more than 21 miles. One would think AAA would be able to gather this. I also went the same route as the driver (confirmed via odometer), although I was not going to speed to get there in an unsafe manner with a flat bed truck and an SUV on top.

Regards

AAA Ohio Auto Club Response • Jun 26, 2019

We will credit back the additional 2 miles plus tax that was overcharged to the member and a check will be sent out for the amount of $9.11. As a good faith gesture we have also credited $30 towards the membership renewal for the upcoming year.

Wish they had 0 stars. AAA is a JOKE! Called to get car towed at 5:45pm and was told truck would be there in 30 mins. Got a call after 30 mins and said would be another 35 mins and 1 min later said truck has arrived but of course it had not. Waited 45 mins and still no updates or calls. Called in again to check and was told truck was in route and would be there in 5 mins. 30 mins went by with nothing. Finally called again and was fed up so asked to talk with manager. Waited and waited and finally manager came on the line and said she had to talk to my wife since her name was on the account. They talked to her and said they were sorry and blah blah blah and said they would expedite the arrival time. In the meantime I get a call on my phone from the original tow truck company that was supposedly dispatched at 5:45pm and he said for some reason it canceled. I went on to ask him if he was busy and he said he had been sitting for two hours at his shop which was 20 mins from my house waiting to be dispatched. I was infuriated! Tow truck finally showed up at 9:00pm over three hours later. All I asked for every time I called was an honest time and it wouldn’t upset me but instead they wanted to lie every time. Will not be renewing with AAA. Start to wonder if the dispatchers they have are on drugs.

My daughter was traveling in Columbus, OH on March 24th when her vehicle would not start. I have AAA and have her added as a driver. My daughter called AAA for a tow and the gentleman who showed up took a stick and started hitting something under neath the hood of the vehicle. When asked what he was doing he explained that he was hitting the starter in an attempt to get it to start and explained that it was a little trick you could do to sometimes get the vehicle to start. Well, that did not work and they had to call a tow truck.

When the vehicle was towed to the Honda dealership, the repair person there stated that it was a damaged transmission problem and that you could tell someone had hit the broken area. The repairman there stated he figured that someone was trying to hit the starter, but in that particular Honda Accord, the starter is not in the same place as it is in other Honda's. The repairman there stated you could see where someone had been hitting on the damaged transmission area. I called AAA to file a claim and offered to give them the repairman's number () but they were not interested in that. I then had to have my daughter call them separate of me, because they did not care to get her story either.

On April 1st, my daughter got a letter in the mail from AAA explaining that it is common practice to hit the starter in an attempt to get the vehicle to start and claims this would not damage the transmission. Like I stated earlier, the problem is the person who showed up for AAA and started hitting things under the hood was not hitting the starter. AAA did damage this vehicle and now are refusing to pay for it.

I had to have AAA tow the vehicle back to a residence in Hilliard OH, because I am not going to pay for damages to be fixed to the tune of almost $900 that AAA is responsible for. The employee for AAA took a stick and started jamming and hitting under neath the hood in the engine compartment. How this is common practice is beyond me. The gentleman obviously did not know what he was hitting as he was not familiar with the location of the starter in this vehicle.

The letter is from Aaron A who I tried to call and have not heard back from yet. They claim in their letter that they examined the vehicle which did not happen as the vehicle was already towed back to a residence in Hilliard OH awaiting a proper response from AAA. I told my daughter to expect AAA not to accept responsibility for their actions, because that is just what businesses do these days. Pretty disappointing conversation I had to have with her, only to be proven right. To receive a letter from someone I didn't even speak to and who obviously did nothing in the way of investigating my claim is disrespectful and obviously a business that does not care for my business.

AAA your employee damaged my vehicle and now I am on the hook for $2000 for the damage you caused and the original starter issue. I pay for your service which includes towing, I didn't need someone to grab a stick and start beating on the vehicle engine compartment. How you can claim you did not damage the vehicle is ridiculous, and I take personal offense that you would think that for some reason I, my daughter, her mother and a repair man at the Honda dealership have some reason to be untruthful about the whole situation.

AAA Ohio Auto Club Response • May 02, 2019

AAA has yet to receive a repair estimate for the damage in question. The number provided for the mechanic has been called multiple times without a return phone call. This number appears to be a personal cell phone number and not the number to an automotive repair facility. Our Member Relations team has reached out several times to the number listed on this complaint, but no return call has been received. Once we receive a repair estimate we can reopen the case for consideration.

My first call for service I was told that 1. the tow cost 2. repairs discount would be offered if I had the vehicle towed to a AAA preferred shop. I approved this recommendation and now as the bills and estimates are forwarded to me I find 1. no discount on the tow to the "preferred shop" and 2. no discount by the "preferred shop" if payable by insurance! I would consider the statements made by the AAA operator to be false and misleading so that I would choose one of the AAA facilities. I am giving a rating of 2 stars for the prompt response of the tow driver. I have yet to decide on a formal complaint with the Revdex.com.

I call AAA to resolve an 8 hr wait on a tow truck ,the lade that called me back was Kristen and she didnt not help me and told me she couldnt not nothing about it .. then hung up the phone

I bought a new battery in 2016 from AAA. The battery died so a tech came out this morning. He said it was under warranty but they could not replace it due to showing a different car model for the original install. The tech refused to believe me that it was in fact installed for my car back in 2016 and it was an administrative mistake. I called to complain after, and they said they would look at the records and mentioned it could be up to 24 hours before they got back to me. Given this news, I went and bought a new battery for the car.

They called me back recently and said they discovered through their investigation that the battery should have been covered. They said I would need to put the old battery back in my car and they would replace it.

I feel this is pretty ridiculous as I don't even know how to install a car battery and at this point just would like a refund given this situation.

The afternoon of June 24, 2018, my car car was experiencing issues while parking and would not start upon attempting to return home. I had a AAA service truck come out and they looked at my battery. The gentleman that came out jumped my car, but determined that I likely had a bad alternator and would need towed based on the battery test he did. I found a service location close to my new house, so I requested a tow to that location (AAA Car Care Plus on ***). I knew it was closed, so I didn’t expect a call until the following morning.

June 25 around 8:30am, I received a call from Mike from the garage. He asked for a description of the issue/why I was towed in. I explained to him my experience with car and provided the info from the AAA service truck check. Mike was very up front with my by stating he suspected the alternator as well, but he wanted to conduct a power system test to see if anything else might be going on and likely couldn’t get my car in for testing until that afternoon or tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.

June 26th at around 12:30pm, I hadn’t heard anything back from the garage so I called for an update. The woman who answered informed me that Mike was at lunch, but he had my car strung up and it appeared to be the next car he was going to look at. At around 5:30pm I still had not received a diagnosis on my car, so I called to request an update. Again, the woman checked and came back to inform me that he had hooked my car up for a 12-hour battery test and would be keeping it overnight and I’d receive a call the following morning.

June 27th during the late morning or early afternoon, I received a call from Mike directly stating the issue was indeed my alternator and it needed replaced. and he was having a part transported from Dayton and gave me a price slightly above $680. I asked for an estimated time until my car was repaired and he said he would have my car repaired either later that afternoon or tomorrow morning. Around 2:30pm I received a call my car was ready.

AAA Ohio Auto Club Response • Jul 09, 2018

This repair was approved by the customer and the parts and labor are within AAA's labor and parts matrix guidelines. The shop supply fee is a percentage of parts and labor and there is not a breakdown. This practice is standard in the auto repair industry. It appears she felt she was strong armed into making this repair. AAA disagrees with her assessment and maintains there is no basis for a refund.
