Not an honest company
After 3 months and continually calling to try to get a quote for a home we wanted built they finally scheduled for us to come in. We went over everything we wanted and they sent us home with a print out. Several weeks more and several phone calls later, they told us they lost our paperwork. Not sure how that happened when it was in their computer. Oh well, we thought, things happen. We finally got the contract which was $30,000 more than their original quote. But it was what we wanted so we signed the papers. Three weeks later they hit us with an email saying they have to raise the price another $20,000. We thought their quotes were guaranteed, but no. They informed us that because they hadn't signed it yet (apparently 3 weeks is not enough time for them to sign their own contract), they could still raise the price. Don't waste your time with this company! They are not honest!

We had the sam experience. We waited for weeks to get the excavation figures - finally signed the contract on April 2nd, having been told by DocuSign of we were locked in; only to be told costa went up by over $35,000. Super disappointing - especially since we found out home build contracts that were received one week earlier were accepted.

Adair site super Jon Meikle
As a subcontract company doing work with Adair Homes team going on 2 years, I would like to take this time to say that Adair Homes takes great care to hire and keep some of the best teams in the industry.
Adair Homes and site superintendent Jon Meikle as well as all Adair site supers we work with take the extra steps to ensure all homes are built with integrity & attention to detail.
The Adair team understands that from a homeowners point of view, building a new home can at times be stressful.
However Adair Homes, from design/sales staff to field construction teams strive to make each homeowners experience a pleasant experience.
As a subcontractor with 40 years of construction experience I not only appreciate the care and compassion for each homeowner but the way Adair Homes and it's site superintendents treat the subcontract vendors as well.

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:When we signed the final paperwork it was mentioned to the Construction Manager " Les" that we were not happy with this counter that looks cracked I mentioned we should list it should we not on the final paperwork? He said Adair stands behind their work so there was no need to put it on the final paperwork The problem is we in trusted everything with Adair Homes to make sure our home was satisfactory Every visitor at our home asks what happened to our Granite Island? I paid a lot of money for this counter top to have me be satisfied with a defective island? No, I am not satisfied with this Would you be? Look at the pictures please I will never ever recommend Adair Homes to anyone as their builder We let the little things go like not caulking the bathtubs which I specifically to have it put on the contract with them We had a chip in the toilet seat cover which we never complained I have light sockets that have no power in the upper plug in, only the bottom one Never complained We have lots of visitors and every one of them have commented on the defect and said they would make Adair Homes replace it They are supposed to be a reputable builder Well, it looks like we have been taken for I am very upset about this

As detailed in my prior response, we followed up with he customer and were able to resolve the complaint

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: I see the redacted copy of the email between alliance financial and John B [redacted] that you provided that the appraisal came in 95k short I also have have a very limited email conversation with Kelly M**, because on the phone we were told to provide a copy of the rescission agreement to her to receive our down payment back, WE would have never know to do this, if we were not told this Lastly, I have a copy of the contract cancellation agreement " In the event [redacted] and [redacted] and ADAIR homes, Incenter into a contract for the construction of a residence within the next months (24) from todays date, Adair WILL reinstate the $1,Processing fee paid by [redacted] and [redacted] ON July 09, 2015, and credit those funds to [redacted] and [redacted] ***" We knew you would probably keep our down payment because of the silence from Adair, I get it, no paper trail, but I would have never gone to another contractor and just given up $1,if you would have just returned phone callWe are not a big corpand this is a huge hit to us financiallySo this would have been in OUR best interest to work with Adair, I just wish you would have worked with us, and FYI, I also didn't see where Adair offered to try something else, like a smaller home, just silence! Sincerely, [redacted] ***

Adair Homes is a company that stands behind the homes we build and acts responsibly per the conditions of the warranty provided at the point of sale and has been doing so for the past years Adair Homes made requested adjustments to the referenced door at the time of the home’s completionThe buyer accepted these adjustments at the time as a condition of accepting their home (See Attachment: Project Inspection Report- Dated: March,11th, 2011) While the homebuyer claims to have had issues with the door since the house was built, we do not have record of any written warranty requests in our possession up until the present time The warranty provision related to the door is for one year from the time of completion of the home, and there are no records of written warranty request inside of the warranty periodNow - more than five years later - the customer is bringing the matter to our attention and including the Revdex.com Due to the close proximity and unprotected positioning of the [redacted] family’s home relative to the Pacific Ocean Shoreline, Open Terrain, High Wind Exposures and known Substantial Rain Events for the area, Adair Homes presented the [redacted] family with a Severe Climate Agreement at the original time of contract(See Attachment: Severe Climate Agreement dated June 10th, and Photograph #1) The Agreement makes mention of both the risks of building a home in a location such as the [redacted] property, and also the special requirements the owner needs to accept in order for Adair to build in such a location During a recent inspection triggered by the [redacted] Revdex.com complaint, it was evident that the “storm door” required by the Severe Climate Agreement had been added fairly recently, allowing the consistent abusive coastal weather patterns to pound on the unprotected Atrium Door for yearsThis can be seen by viewing the unfaded and blonde colored door jamb framing materials in relation to the significantly peeling and faded original Atrium Door frame(See Attachments: Photographs #4, #and #6) Additionally, the Atrium door and surrounding exterior cementitious cladding and trim that were installed during the original construction of the home have not been routinely maintained by the [redacted] familyThe Owner Responsibilities of perpetual protections as outlined in the Severe Climate Agreement were not adhered to or followed either, as you can see in the provided documents (See Attachments: Photographs #2,#3, #and #5) documenting cracked siding, missing or damaged caulking and peeling paint coatings Any one of these deferred maintenance items could be responsible for the admission of moisture into the structure This home has been under the sole possession, care and responsibility of the [redacted] family for the past five years The portion of the Adair warranty related to the identified item expired more than four years agoThe [redacted] family has only just recently filed a warranty claim relating to the Atrium DoorMany of the requirements noted on the Severe Weather Agreement were not followed or adhered to resulting in apparent visual evidence of deferred annual maintenance Taking all of these factors into consideration, Adair Homes does not find there to be warrantable items presented by the customer We also ask that the Revdex.com dismiss this claim as without sufficient merit

Adair Homes inefficiently performed their job and forced all of the expenses incurred into my family and IWe had a contractual agreement with them that they would have our home plans ready for permit approval within days, it took them daysWe were told that the financing aspect, provided by their sister company, [redacted]  would take days, it took them daysBecause of these delays, we were subjected to a $price Increase on our home construction, and instead of accepting any responsibility, they tried to tell us that this was primarily our fault, and refused to even negotiate the price increaseThey paint a pretty picture, but in reality crush their customers if there is any hiccup that causes them to have to pay anything

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:We understand that we were days past the contracted price protection expiration date but that was as a directly due to Adair's mistakesWe ran into several (timeline) issues with Michelle K [redacted] Our permitting package was missing original wet stamps and when we requested them from Michelle we were given dates (a few times!) as to when they were actually being mailed to usWe finally talked to Kelly M [redacted] and she was able to get them to us the next dayAll of that still resulted in us being because we were given inadequate paperwork to submit to the county for permittingWe then were given truss plans that were not even to scale and we were delayed another weeks because of that issue alone Adair is at fault for not providing the correct paperwork to us the first timeWe have done everything possible to take care of anything we are responsible for during this building processGetting the correct paperwork took exceptionally long and that made us fall past our price lock guarantee! We were site ready in less than days (and all of the paperwork mistakes took about days to resolve!)We would have been site ready and met our price lock guarantee had the correct paperwork been given to us the first time around! When we asked for the corrected paperwork, we were only given excuses and more delaysWe had to pay the price increase even though all of the permitting delays were are result of Adair's inaccuracies Sincerely, [redacted]

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: In order to get my refund Adair agreed to I had to submit a claim at small claims court The company is dishonest and I do not support or recommend them We still came out with a loss of 1200$ from the company lies.Sincerely, [redacted]

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me Sincerely, [redacted]

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: Adair is not responding to my complaint regarding their business practice of requiring a home order be signed prior to any construction timeline being discussed or establishedAdair set the construction to begin on Feb6, with the requirement that the site be [redacted] for construction on January 18,This means that all excavation work, site leveling, septic with drain field, power, and foundation marking be completed among other tasksIf the site is not [redacted] by the date they require then I am facing increased prices for the home order in addition to increased site preparation costsWhat they are not acknowledging is that excavation companies are not willing to prepare a site in freezing or subfreezing temperatures or install a septic system with drain field when the ground is frozen solid down several feetBy Adair setting the construction schedule they knowingly created a situation where I would be forced to pay increased costs and refused to adjust the construction schedule under any circumstance that doesn't result in my paying moreBy requiring a signed home order prior to setting the construction start date I now face a 10% or greater penalty for cancelling a project that is not possible based upon the schedule they set Their business practice puts the customer at extreme risk to pay tens of thousands more than outlined on the order with no recourse to stop or adjust the project without a penalty of tens of thousands in a 'cancellation fee' or additional construction costs that they consider to be 'owner responsibilities'Their direct response to me also pushes a timeline past the limitations of the Revdex.com platform which would result in a closing of this complaint as 'solved' when in actuality it is still open Sincerely, [redacted] -***

I wanted like to first clarify that Adair Homes has not instituted penalties, which is not something we would do Our contract includes an day price protection, which locks the customers price from the time the order is ratified, and as long as the customer has their site [redacted] within the day period, the price for the Adair Homes is locked all the way through construction From time to time, Adair Homes raises the price of our homes due to the cost of construction rising, which is implemented across all of our floor plans (not specific to individual customers). In a situation where Adair Homes has raised our prices during the period of the price protection, and the customer does not have their site [redacted] for construction during this period, a price increase is required to be capturedThis particular customer is still within there price protection period so we have not requested a price increase to be paid.As it relates to the customer not wanting to move forward with their contract, and based on the knowledge there are circumstances outside of the customers control, we will allow the customer to cancel their contract (per our contract terms). If the customer wishes this to be the case, please have her send me a message directly and we will facilitate[redacted] @adairhomes.com

Revdex.com:I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and while I still do not agree that they satisfied their obligation, there clearly is a technicality that absolves them of responsibility for this particular issueFor the most part, we are happy with our Adair Home, so it's unfortunate we were not able to come to a mutually agreeable resolution Sincerely, [redacted] ***

I have finally received the check

We received and reviewed the Revdex.com complaint from Mr& Mrs [redacted] in regards to their graniteThe homeowner signed the Pre-Occupancy Orientation form (attached) at the time of the homes completion in December 2016, where they accepted the home without listing the granite as an issue. After the completion and acceptance of the home, the [redacted] reached out to Adair Homes in regards to what they described as granite crack Our Construction Superintendent evaluated the granite the next day and had the opinion that it was a natural part of the stone However, we still requested that our granite supplier inspect the granite. Our granite supplier inspected the granite and came to the conclusion that what was being described as a crack, was actually a natural fissure in the stone Not a crack in the stone caused during manufacturing or installation.Granite countertops are composed of natural materials and are subject to variations in background color, veining distribution, veining patternThe color, shade, veining, color concentrations (blotches), and any other variances in the appearance of natural stone will exist and will vary between a sample used in the selection process and the actual stone(s) used on the project, between two stones, and even within the same stoneSuch naturally occurring variations, including fissures, are to be expected in stone and are not considered defects. It is very important that the homeowners are happy with their home, including the granite, although the natural variations in granite are to be expected and are not covered under warranty

I hired Adair to build my home, it was completed December of Since then, my shingles have blown off the roof and now my electrical has an issueThey double tapped breakers in our electrical panel which is overloading the breaker that keeps tripping itThis breaker has cadet heaters running off of it and is not up to codeI would never recommend this company to build your house, they are fast but the house is not up to the standards that most builders would provide, nor do they stand behind their productI have contacted them a couple times and they just tell me that it is out of warranty even though this is a matter of intentional and illegal practicesAn electrical inspector will tell you that you cannot double tap a breaker

Revdex.com:I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and find that this resolution is satisfactory to meSincerely, [redacted]

As stated in the previous response, even if we had provided the additional time beyond the day period that we estimate for drawings to be complete, the homeowner would still not have met the price protection periodFrom a contractual perspective, I have have attached the Joint House Building Agreement signed by the homeowner, which does not guarantee a specific drafting timeline Our day price protection period is industry leading, and Drafting turn times fluctuate during the year, as demand increases and decreasesIt is highly unfortunate that the cost to construct homes are increasing industry wide and the homeowner had to partially (discounted) share in this cost increase, however we stand by our contract and the decision

In the customers statement, they claim the purchase date of their home was 6/1/This is not a true statementIn fact, the purchase date of the customer's home is August 9th, (See attached Joint House Building Agreement/Purchase Contract).Adair Completed construction activities and presented the home as complete on March 3rd, The home was accepted as complete and satisfactorily built by the customer at that time(See attached Project Inspection and Agreement Report)At the time of the home's purchase, Adair included a One Year "Fit and Finish" warranty, and Two Year "Plumbing Heating and Mechanical Performance" warranty and a Ten Year "Major Structural" performance warranty(See attached 2-Warranty information)In February of 2015, the buyers complained to Adair about the condition of their carpetAdair in turn relayed this information to the Carpet Manufacturer and the Manufacturer's local distributorOn March 16th of 2015, the carpet manufacturer and the local distributor dispatched a certified independent 3rd party inspector to investigate the claims made by the customerIt was determined by the inspector that the latex in the backing of the carpet was sparse, hard and even brittleIn fact, the soft-back appeared nearly transparent in several randomly inspected areas and was leading to poor texture retention in the carpetThis report was issued and shared with the carpet manufacturer, the distributor and with Adair Homes. The manufacturer has issued a statement that they will honor the provisions of their warranty and will pay out 60% of the original value of the carpet due to the defects found by the independent inspector(See attached carpet manufacturer's warranty)The value of this warranty settlement comes to $and will be paid upon the execution of a release of future claims relating to the defective carpet settlement(See Attached cash settlement/release of future claims)Adair is not in possession of monies owed to the buyer nor are we "holding" a check from the manufacturer issued to the claimant/homeowner Adair is simply trying to act as the conduit between the homeowner and the manufacturerOnce the release of future claims is executed by the buyer, Adair will issue a check to the buyer on behalf of the manufacturer and then the manufacturer will reimburse Adair for executing their warranty settlementAdair personnel have attempted to parley with the buyers on behalf of the manufacturer, in an attempt to expedite the satisfaction of the warranty, only to find the buyers not accepting of the provisions of the manufacture's warranty terms and cash settlement ***SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS REDACTED BY Revdex.com***
