Affordable Appliance Repair Reviews (34)

It was nice to call for service and have someone work with you to accommodate your schedule.
The technician showed up on time and was very neat and
courteous. He went right to work and cleaned up when he was done.

This company states clearly that they have FREE estimates in their advertisement but charged me a service fee for looking at my dryer. He stated that there is a service fee if no service is performed. This is false advertisement and I do not think this company should be in business. This is the actual advertisement:Affordable Appliance RepairXXXXX [redacted] XXXXX(XXX) XXX-XXXXwww.affordableappliancerepairmemphis.comBusiness Description: Locally owned & operated.Services: Appliance Repair, Appliance Sales, Heating & Air Conditioning/hvac, PlumbingIn Business Since: [redacted] Since: 9/19/2011Warranties: TrueFree Estimates: [redacted] for detailsOffice Hours: Mon-Fri 7:00 AM-7:00 PMExcluded Services: Microwaves and vent hoodsFeatures: Emergency ServiceProduct_Or_Service: DRYEROrder_Number: N/AAccount_Number: N/ADesired SettlementI would like a refund of $59.00

I had a technician ([redacted]) from Affordable Appliance Repair come out to my house to repair my refrigerator that was leaking water. [redacted] inspected the refrigerator and tore off the back panel to further inspect. He discovered a clogged drain and used his screw driver (to chip the ice away) and hot water to unclog the drain. For this service, that took about an hour, I was charged $200 and paid $180 after a presenting a 10% coupon. Moreover, during this repair visit, [redacted] was condescending when I questioned him about his work because he did not seem confident about what he was doing (i.e. making comments saying he’s never worked on this type of refrigerator before and he was guessing as to what was wrong) and I doubted he actually fixed the problem. About 2 weeks later I discovered the refrigerator was leaking again so the problem was not remedied. I called Affordable Appliance and complained to the owner about my service and how I’d prefer a different technician to inspect my refrigerator. The owner told me no other technicians serviced my area and that [redacted] would come out to inspect my refrigerator again. [redacted] came, glanced at the refrigerator and told me his boss would refund my money. I still had a broken refrigerator so I contacted another company who came out and showed me that the back panel of the refrigerator was broken (by [redacted]) and that my drain had a hole (also from [redacted]). The new technician documented the damage. Moreover, the new technician was unable to repair my refrigerator due to the damage that [redacted] did so now I still have a broken refrigerator and will have to replace it due to [redacted] and Affordable Appliance Repair’s negligence. Moreover, I contacted the owner again to discuss the damages [redacted] made to my refrigerator and he told me there was no proof that [redacted] did any of the damage and that he’s refunded my money so there is nothing else he can do for me.

I called Affordable appliance repair at 0830 am for a problem with my refrigerator. They returned my call within 30 min troubleshooted over phone ,gave me a quote and did the repair by 1330. I was totally impressed. My tech was Robert and he was very professional he took time to explain why I was having a problem and how to detect it if it ever happens again. He even helped me troubleshoot a problem with my dishwasher. It is so refreshing to have a company follow through what they advertise. I will being using them for now. Thanks Affordable

Review: I had called affordable refrigeration due to an issue with my frig since they were out previously to fix it,when the tech arrived he said the issue was not related to the service that was done on my frig and told me it would be [redacted] for the service call. I told him I wasnt expecting to pay because I thought it was a related issue.I called them to question the service charge and told them I would like to know how I would lknow if the if was related for the work that wasdone.the recptionist told me that she would have the manager call me I never received the call from them.Desired Settlement: I should have been told that there was a service charge regardless which was not mentioned to me on the phone

On September 4 2013 I called Affordable Appliance Repair told them my refrigerator was not sounding right. They informed me that the service charge would be $55.00. He asked what was wrong. I told him that it was working but not running like a refrigerator runs. He told me it would be $260. The son came with him and he was learning the business. He couldn't even get the back panel off. [redacted] replaced the freezer fan and said that it sounds louder now.

I was short of funds and he took a posted dated check. On the invoice he had no part or labor charge. I had a another repair man come out and wrote me a estimate. The amount was much different. I called [redacted] and told him that I think we should talk about his charges. I called Whirlpool and knew what the freezer fan cost. I said that his labor charges were to high He informed me that he would be out and replace my old fan and call it even. He told me to have my freezer emptied out. When he took the new fan out that's when he said how are you going to pay for this service call. Not saying anything over the telephone that I was going to be charged. I told him I would give him another check he said no, cash only. When I didn't have it he took the part and his invoice and left my old part(freeze fan) on the counter and the panel to the freezer on the floor, my food on the counter and told me to call that other company. I have never been treated like this by anyone. I was not trying to get something for nothing. Just be reasonable about the price. Also he had his boys name on top of the invoice which his boy is not a technician. Watch your invoices. He did not have any prices for the part or labor charges on the invoice. I would not recommend this company to anyone. He is cocky, defiant not a people person. The owner is very argumentative. He is good at putting the blame on you.

Review: Over about a two week period, AAR failed to completely repair my SubZero refrigerator after being paid a total of $200 cash. Further, the repairman [redacted] and his friend were loaned a Surefire Defender flashlight that lists at the local Police Supply store at $109 plus tax. It was not returned to me and in asking [redacted] about it, he was somewhat evasive, only saying that I would receive credit for it. This seems like an admission of taking the item. I have looked hours for it and it is not here at the residence. In the past few days, I have emailed the owner of AAR three times on their contact form with no reply. I am now short $200, an expensive flashlight and still have a refrigerator that does not cool properly. This company advertises that they will help people in a competent manner with such problems, not create more. This was a very difficult time for me as my faithful dog of seven years had to be put down due to a series of epileptic seizures.Desired Settlement: Refund-Cash

Response:

I am completely unaware of a flashlight problem. I am however very aware of this customer shorting us on the repair we performed for him on his Sub Zero. Unless this customer has evidence of us stealing a flashlight I am not going to do anything. We repaired his unit at an agreed price and only when we completed the repair did he notify us that he would not pay the agreed price but only a portion of it. Rather than getting into an argument I advised our technician to leave and we would designate this customer undesirable and not perform work for him in the future. I do not know if this is an attempt to get more money on his part.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The feeble response from AAR is as follows which presumably is by the owner, Mr. [redacted], as it is not signed.

MESSAGE FROM BUSINESS:

I am completely unaware of a flashlight problem. I am however very aware of this customer shorting us on the repair we performed for him on his Sub Zero. Unless this customer has evidence of us stealing a flashlight I am not going to do anything. We repaired his unit at an agreed price and only when we completed the repair did he notify us that he would not pay the agreed price but only a portion of it. Rather than getting into an argument I advised our technician to leave and we would designate this customer undesirable and not perform work for him in the future. I do not know if this is an attempt to get more money on his part.

RESPONSE BY CUSTOMER:

Mr. [redacted]'s Message is unacceptable for many reasons. He writes that he was "completely unaware of a flashlight problem". This is false as I wrote him THREE times about this. He responds to Revdex.com, but didn't to me. [redacted] and Friend were aware of a flashlight problem and offered to discount my bill because of it. Why didn't he interview them about this as any responsible owner would do? He states that he "is not going to do anything" which sums up my experience with this deficient firm. He did not, "repaired his unit" as it still did not work. There was no "agreed price" beforehand and when [redacted] and Friend were through and leaving, I was presented with an amount which I could not then fully pay because of recent bills regarding the death of my dog and the continuing dilemma of the missing flashlight which I had loaned to [redacted], but never received back. [redacted] immediately became very angry and threatened to remove the part he had just installed, ignoring the fact that I had not refused the full payment, but only deferred it. He also did this while all of the contents of the refrigerator were removed and getting warm which I had done to cooperate with the repair. [redacted] also refused to write a receipt for the $100 cash I did pay him at that time. I do have a receipt for the $100 cash paid previously. Mr. [redacted] stated that "rather than get into an argument..." which [redacted] had already done. He also stated that he "did not know if this was an attempt to get more money". It is an attempt to reclaim money which was paid under false pretenses that AAR would repair the unit and the return of my expensive flashlight which has still not turned up after hours of looking for it. Another company came out and got my refrigerator cooling again for which they were fully paid. They did this in one visit, not two weeks and nothing was missing after they left. Mr. [redacted] claims in his advertising for AAR that he can help resolve problems. My experience with them is that they only create them.

My situation now with AAR and Mr. [redacted] is that I am out $200 for a repair which they did not do and took two weeks to not repair it and my expensive flashlight remains missing and I had to pay another company to fix the unit. If Mr. [redacted] still doesn't understand what this Complaint is all about, it only adds to the incompetence of my total experience with them.

I received excellent service from Mike who happened to be in the area when I phoned to inquire about getting my Maytag side by side fridge/freezer repaired. He was on my doorstep within minutes. He was very professional, knowledgeable and courteous. He explained everything thoroughly and gave me a quote and best of all, he had the part available and fixed the fridge quickly. I highly recommend Mike and Affordable Appliance Repair and will definitely call them for any future appliance repairs. The repair price was very reasonable and I received a 10% Senior discount.

I had a break down of my refrigerator kitchenaid which is 10 yrs old, I was upset with my refrigerator and was calling Many repair tech's if they could come out to find out my refrigerator problem, [redacted] was SOOOOO HELPFUL AND VERY KNOWLEDEABLE about what the problem was, he informed me that must be your Relay box causing the problem, so I went to appliance store and got this relay box for him to install, He came by the next day of my call, checked the problem and yes he was right on the nail, it was my relay box, He installed my relay box, checked my compressor and engine of my refrigerator checked my coils to make sure they were clean enough which he says EVERYTHING looks good!!! he took his time to make sure my fridge will run smooth, Everything was in tip top shape with [redacted], now my refrigerator is icy cold and my freezer as well, EXCELLENT WORK [redacted] did, PLUS his prices is highly reasonable!!! he takes credit cards, checks and cash, I highly recommend [redacted] for any appliance repair!!! He is Now my Permanent repair man for all my washer, refrigerator, stoves!!!! once I find someone who puts Love into there workmanship...I will have him forever!!!!! [redacted] I give him 5 star ratings!!! EXCELLENT!!!!

On 11/26/13 a repairman for Affordable Appliance came to my house to check the freezer part of my refrigerator. He looked in the freezer and said he had the same problem with another customer and couldn't find out what it was. He even tried to call her. After not being able to reach the other customer, he then stuffed a dishcloth in the ice chute as he did hers to see if warm air was getting in. Said he would come back the following Tuesday and see if it helped, if not, he would see what else to do. did not check any other part of freezer. I asked about the service call charge and offered to pay then. He said no, because he didn't know what the problem was and could not give me an estimate. Over weekend, Fridge got worse and my brother bought a new one as they couldn't find problem with old one. He did not understand the trial and error repair. I called the repairman Monday and told him I did not need him to come Tuesday. The then said they thought they found the problem with other customers Fridge that was like mine. He then demanded a credit card for other service call in which nothing was done. I told him to email me a bill. Today, I called the office to ask about a bill and left a message. I got not one but 2 phone calls back demanding money immediately. Then I got an invoice saying the repairman had diagnosed as evaporator fan motor and I had refused service. I have a witness to everything I am saying and don't appreciate this, as the repairman said they wanted the old Fridge in leu of payment. I'm not sure if this is some sort of Scam in Arizona, as I also go an email saying the balance due is 0. If this is true, why am I getting phone calls. I saw on other complaints, they always had an answer ready. I hope not in this case, because I have proof.

Review: I hired this company to fix my [redacted] coffee maker. The machine is clogged and water is coming out from where it shouldn't. It is not measuring correct amount amount of water to make a cup of coffee.... Instead it's putting out double the water amount, overflowing the cup and making bad tasting weak coffee. This company came out last week to take care of this problem. The guy (owner of the company) spent not more than 10 minutes poking a pin into the spout where the water comes out. He tells me it's fixed, and charges me $130 for this "work" he did. I paid this. The next morning I use my coffee maker again. The problem is STILL there. I call him back. First I was told he would not charge me again to fix the same problem, but the next day, someone from the company calls me again and tells me I would be charged again. Outrageous! He is simply trying to make money off of me because I own an expensive coffee machine. I would never recommend this company to anyone. Not will I ever use them again!Desired Settlement: Take responsibility that he didn't fix the problem he said he had fixed and still charged me for it. He should come back and fix the problem at no extra charge or refund the money he took from me for supposedly fixing the problem by poking a pin!

To Whom It May Concern, This will serve as a response to the above complaint # [redacted]. Mrs. [redacted] called our business to set up a service call for her [redacted] coffee maker. An appointment was made and the technician went to her home on 10/10/14. He found the machine clogged with coffee grounds which is a common issue when the units are not maintained well. He proceeded to unclog the machine and showed her how to do this in the future. He also reset the coffee temp. ,made a cup of coffee with her and then proceeded to look at her microwave upon her request. The customer was charged $130.00 plus tax which is a $70.00 service call fee (which everyone is charged ) and $60.00 for a regular repair. In most cases there is also a $30.00 diagnostic fee however she was not charged for that. This kind of repair was done in an effort to save Mrs. [redacted] some money and was agreed upon with her and the technician.

Review: I paid Randy S[redacted] $175.00 for a part to repair my washing machine and he never came back to do the work.Desired Settlement: I just want my money back to pay for the repair. I do not want this man in my home.

Review: On Saturday, May 18, 2013, [redacted] of Affordable Appliance Repair, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, came to my home to repair my dishwasher. He put on a great show, informed me he found the problem. He said I needed a vent assembly and he needed to order the part. He got on his cell phone, confirmed that the part was being ordered and would arrive by Wednesday. He assured me he would call and return by the end of the for the installation to complete the repairs to the dishwasher and included a warranty. He provided me the bill and I paid him that day (unaware his intention was to deceive me). Wednesday came and I had not heard from him. On Friday I attempted to call him to see if the part arrived and when he would be out to finish fixing the dishwasher. I did not get a response. I then attempted to call at least five more times over the next week, left messages on the machine and I still did not get any response from [redacted] or Affordable Appliance Repair. On Wednesday May 29, 2013, I emailed Affordable Appliance Repair and still have heard nothing back. Its now June 4, 2013, Affordable Appliance Repair and [redacted] charged and received payment for a dishwasher repair that they had NO intention of completing. They are the worst company I have ever done business with and they purposely avoid any communication after they were paid. Now I am forced to start the process all over with another company and pay again.Desired Settlement: Refund me the $130.00 cash paid from his invoice #[redacted]Billed to:[redacted]

At this time, I have not been contacted by Affordable Appliance Repair regarding complaint ID [redacted].

Regards,

I was referred to this company because I purchased a warranty on my microwave through the Home Depot. I was informed they work on weekends as I requested due to my work schedule. The woman that handles the service calls to schedule appointments is the most ignorant human being I have ever spoken to on the phone. She is unprofessional, disrespectful, and her attitude is disgraceful. She does not know how to speak to people.
The gentleman that came to my home for the first time to diagnose the problem was nice. He was in my home about 10 minutes, wrote some information down on a piece of paper and went on his way, indicating that the Home Depot would probably offer to buy me out vs. fix the problem because it was so extensive. He informed me he would be in touch one way or another. I heard from the ignorant secretary the following weekend, she indicated the business "doesn't do weekends," she could only do Monday or Tuesday, could not give me a time, I would just have to sit at home all day and wait. Reluctantly I told her Tuesday, I took the day off from work only to have the contractor call me and CANCEL after I already took the day off. He rescheduled for that Saturday morning, indicating I needed to have someone else at my home as well to help him remove the unit from the wall. I took off work Saturday only to have him CANCEL again, stating he fell. He stated he could come out the following Saturday, no problems, and this time, he could bring an extra set of hands so I did not have to provide him with help. I asked that he call me during the week and inform me of what time I should expect him in order to make arrangements, he never called. I called HIM on Friday evening, left a voice mail, and NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THE COMPANY. WHAT A DISGRACE!!!!! I am completely disgusted with the professionalism (lack thereof) of this company and I can't understand how they can possibly be in business. I would NEVER allow anyone from that company anywhere near my home and would NEVER recommend their services to anyone, not even my worse enemy.
