Review: My husband and I purchased a double hung window from this business in 4-2-09 and the window is so heavy I cannot open it and close it and is so heavy and awkward to clean that I cannot operate it.We spent a lot of money on these windows and have not been happy since they were installed.we have called them repeatedly year after year and they told us once the frame was warped but then they never called us back. They were just out in June 23rd the man who came said he would get back to us and has not called us since I am tired of waiting what good is there warranty if they do not fix the problem. Please help us with this we are getting the run around.Desired Settlement: Replace this awful window we even told them we would take a less expensive window if we have too.

Response:

I spoke with [redacted] and her husband [redacted] in regards to the complaint they voiced on 7-19-2015. I set up a time with them to go to their house to look at the window they were concerned with. In the complaint, its states it was a double hung window. The concern is really about a large Sliding window that was installed into their Living Room. I went to the home on Tuesday, August 4th and spoke with them. I inspected the window to make sure it was in good working order. The concern was the difficulty operating the window as well as being able to clean it. I spoke in length with [redacted] about the operation of the window. I made a few minor adjustments to the window that helped it to operate. Cleaning the track of debris helped free it of obstructions that made it more difficult to operate. The window had not been cleaned since it was put in 6 years ago and dirt had worked its way in the track. After it was cleaned, [redacted] said he was happy with the operation of the window now. I discussed changing the window to different styles, but the customer declined because he liked the current look of the window in his home. He stated he would not be happy with the other options. I took some time to show him the steps of how to tilt the slider in for cleaning. The size of the slider made it more difficult for [redacted] to clean and I am not sure if they knew the steps to pull it in. [redacted] told me he would be the one tilting the slider in because [redacted] found it difficult. The window is in good working order, and I will follow up with the customer in a couple days to make sure they are still happy with the operation. I expressed to the customer our willingness to do what was necessary for them to be happy. [redacted] stated he was happy and wanted to give it a couple days to make sure the windows functionality did not change. I informed [redacted] of the videos we have on our website and utube that demonstrate how to clean the slider window. This way he had a future reference if he had any questions, or he can call us and we walk him through it.

Response:

I followed up with Steve [redacted] and his wife [redacted]. They are satisfied with the windows operation. We are going out on Thursday to address a bend in one of the screens. They will let us know if we can be of any further assistance to them. Any questions please contact me.

I signed up for a giveaway, and now they will not stop calling me. They call multiple times per day and don't stop. They sometimes leave messages, but not often. It is harassing.

Entered into a contest through this company. They called to verify I was entering. When speaking with them I was curious about their windows. They offered to come out to do a free estimate. I explained then I would NOT be buying anything for awhile but if they still wanted to come out to give an estimate, great.
The guy showed up on time. He was extremely awkward to interact with at first. A lot of silences until he finally asked what windows we were interested in. I mentioned wanting to put in french doors. He asked why french doors - then said French Doors were a new product to them. He ended up trying to talk me out of French Doors by telling me they fail easy. So I told him to give me a quote on a regular sliding door. He proceeded into almost 2 hours of demo. The product looked good, like something we might be interested in..EVENTUALLY.
He wanted us to guess the price. We had no idea. Again, awkward silence while he was waiting for us to guess even after we told him no idea. Finally my husband threw out a number to get it going again because the salesman seemed to have no intention of moving forward until we guessed. Of course it didn't match. Finally he gave us his amount - then started in on the ways to save us money. We told him thank you, but we need to discuss it. Something in him flipped. He turned quite rude and started pressuring us. Saying things to us like, "If the price seems ok, why not just do it today?" & "I don't understand. What do you have to talk about?", "Want me to just step outside while you talk? That is what most people do". We told him SEVERAL times 'No, we have to talk about it'. He insisted and appeared to be irritated - clicking his pen over and over again - his tone changed. We felt extremely offended that he was asking us to explain why we wouldn't take their deal today. Eventually he asked to call his boss and explain. Of course we heard the conversation and his boss asking if he offered other deals, etc. He gets off the phone and goes "Yeah, my boss just doesn't get why you wouldn't do this today". Again, we told him this is not something we are going to jump into. We need to discuss it.
AHT might of had a sale with us within a year, but after that... they will not. We have never met a sales person who treated us so poorly. His sale tactics of strong arming, pushing and being rude are what took us away as future customers.

Review: I purchased windows from AHT windows om 12-12-2013. These windows were delayed and I initially called sometime around February 1st to cancel the order since they were not made yet. This delay was unacceptable. I was told that I can not cancel. The windows finally arrived to my home on 3-25-2014. This is only for 5 windows. 4 months seems like a long time to me. Anyways these windows that were delivered were all defective. 1 window had a big chip on the inside, 2 screens were damaged, the caulk job that was done was cracked already by the time the installers left. 2 windows (casement) do not fit the way we were told they were going to fit. Windows leaked air pretty bad. We were told by AHT after they sent multiple different people out to look at the windows that they were going to replace the 3 slider windows because they did not fit properly and were missing some piece. A few months later we finally received our 3 new windows, of course 1 of the screens was damaged and the metal wrap they put on the outside did not match. The installers ultimately installed the new windows without the metal wrap leaving my house exposed to the elements. Finally a few more months later, now in September 2014, we have our new screen and the metal wrapping that goes on the windows. After this install I was feeling a little better since it seemed the company was at least trying to make an effort to fix the problems. However, There are still 2 windows that do not fit the way we were told they were going to, 1 window had water leak on the inside of the window sill (this never happened before with the old windows), and they still leak air pretty badly. One of the main reasons for replacing the windows was so we had a more energy efficient home. These windows do not accomplish that as I can guarantee I will have to plastic them when is starts to get cold. So here's what we have, 2 windows that don't fit the way the salesman said they would, 1 window leaks water (I'm assuming that since this window leaks water it also must leak air), 1 for sure leaks air pretty bad.Desired Settlement: I would like AHT to come get their windows out of my house and refund me the full purchase price of these windows. I am tired of dealing with this company only to be told something different by everyone I talk to. Or they can pay a contractor of my choice to come replace their windows. I do not want these sub par windows in my house. This is not the windows we agreed to.

I have received your letter dated 10/03/2014 in reference to the above ID number. We understand that we have had some issues with Mr. [redacted]’s project and felt that we had all the issues addressed as of approximately two weeks ago. The new issues that are brought up in this complaint have not been addressed with us up to the time of this email. We have always taken care of our problems and this will be no exception. I did call Mr. [redacted] and left a voicemail wanting to talk to him to validate any additional issues he may have. When I am able to get in contact with him I will determine what the issues are and take care of them. I appreciate your time in this matter.

Review: Windows for the kitchen, 1 bedroom, and the dining room as well as a sliding porch door and window were ordered before the end of 2013. We were told that it would take about 6-8 weeks from the moment the windows were measured for installation. Several days after the initial meeting with the sales representative, a contractor came to measure the windows to prepare to order the windows. Then nothing was heard whatsoever. 6-8 weeks passed and we still heard nothing. We we called to inquire, we were told there was a backorder. The windows did eventually come and were then installed in May. However the initial measurements for the window that was going into the bedroom was measured wrong by the contractor, so the wrong size window that was smaller than the current window came instead. Rather than just leaving the old window in, the contractors took that window out, installed the wrong size window in a temporary frame and said they would contact the company. Nothing was heard until we contacted AHT and they said that there were unaware of any issue because the contractors never mentioned they installed the wrong size window in a quickly rigged frame. They just said that the job was completed.

Meanwhile the bank that they use for their loan purposes was contacted by us to let them know that the job was in fact not completed and that we felt we shouldn't start payment until the job had actually been completed, per the pitch from the salesman that came to the house initially. The bank was apologetic and was going to let AHT know about this problem, but they would have to go ahead with receiving their payments. The AHT person that my wife spoke too just said there were plenty of backorders and they offered to pay a portion of our first payment for us, which amounted to just over $50. They then said that the right sized window should be in by the end of July and that is when they would install it.

We finally heard from them on 8-13-14. They said they were coming on Friday, 8-15 and install the window. When the contractors removed the wrong sized window from the bedroom, they brought out the new window to install and discovered that the window was broken. They installed the broken window anyway with some kind of cardboard to cover up the broken window part.Desired Settlement: This is unacceptable service and completely outrageous. I do not think that I should have to pay a thing for these windows until they have been completely installed properly and are the correct windows that were ordered. I would like the windows to fit properly. I would like the correct trim as was ordered. I would like a complete refund for the payments already sent in and noted with ENERBANK.

AHT called me to give me a free estimate on windows and doors. instead I got a rude and agitated salesman. He never gave me a estimate. He proceeded to knock the company I had install a bow window for me. He made me feel small and stupid. He was actually the first person I ever had to kick out of my house! AHT if you want to continue to have a good business you need to educate your sales people on how to talk and communicate with your customers. He wouldn't give me a estimate because he said I didn't do my "HOMEWORK". Very rude and unprofessional. All this aggravation because I filled out a sweepstakes card with them for free windows. Never again!

Review: The handle on one of our windows used to open and close the casement window came off in May 2013. It still has not been replaced. Now a second window has the same problem (a second time on this window) and we will have to wait for repir of this window just as long as the first one.Desired Settlement: Replace windows with a better quality product. We paid a lot of money for these windows and have never been satisfied from day one. If I had the money back, I would have them all replaced by someone else.

Review: In 2007 we contracted with AHT to purchase and have installed a number of windows and a new front door. In the subsequent years I have called on AHT to fulfill their guarantee obligations. During these visits the technicians corrected a void in the insulation in one sliding window and another promptly fixed a broken part on one of the double hung windows. However, his response to my concerns regarding difficulty in operating the double hung windows was to hand me a can of silicon spray and leave. I have contacted the company on at least three occasions to voice my concerns about the front door that has: 1.glue oozing from around the window insert that is quite unsightly 2. is extremely difficult to close and latch 3. is extremely difficult to turn the deadbolt 4. frost appearing around the door edges.

The double hung window over our kitchen sink is virtually impossible to operate without the use of a four foot piece of 2x2. The salesman, Jerry W., ignored our request for a casement style window that would have been much easier to operate. The interior finish trim work around this window is something I would expect from an 8th grade industrial arts class.

My last contact with AHT, I believe, was the first week or so of January 2015. I did actually speak with [redacted]. the president, and a technician showed up here shortly thereafter. He examined the door and took measurements of the kitchen window. He said he was going to take pictures of the door because it was under the manufactures warranty of a different company. I went to the kitchen to get something and when I returned a couple minutes later I discovered he had left. He left no business card or any indication of when I could expect further contact from the company. My late wife and I made a huge mistake dealing with AHT. I would never recommend them for anything!Desired Settlement: The front door should be replaced as well as the double hung kitchen window.

Business

Response:

We have received the above referenced letter and the following is what we have done or will do to the rectify the issues. 1. The glue oozing from around the window insert on the door is being caused by heat buildup between the door we installed and the storm door the customer provided. The storm door installed on the entry door is causing the problem. It is allowing the heat to build up between the door and storm door. Mr. [redacted] removed the glass while we were there to prevent this from happening in the future. It is not covered by the manufacturers warranty, however we will remove and reseal the frame while we are there adjusting the deadbolt.2. 2 and 3 are just a slight adjustment and will be taken care of.4. The frost on the door is caused by the bottom sweep being deteriorated along with a weather strip on the corner. Theses have a one year warranty but will be replaced by us when we go for the other items. The double hung window was installed over the kitchen sink because a casement style window could not be made the width that was needed for that window because of size limitations. We were there and the window operates fine……the fact that you need to reach over the counter to operate it is what makes it difficult. We have talked to Mr. [redacted] about installing a different window in the kitchen and moving the existing window to another location in the house.I’m not sure why after our technician was there in January we never replied to Mr. [redacted]’s concerns. We are sorry for the inconvenience and will do our best to get the issues resolved as soon as possible. Sincerely,

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

We signed up to have AHT Wisconsin Windows do a presentation in our home, not sure at the time whether or not we would be interested. Robert [redacted] came to our house and did an outstanding job of explaining, answering our questions, and demonstrating the window product he was selling. It was easy to see that he knew a lot about the windows and we were impressed by his honesty and his "no pressure" style. We were sold on how well the windows are manufactured, the warranties, and the energy savings. We will highly recommend these windows to any of our friends who may be looking to replace their windows in the future. It is reassuring to know that this quality product is manufactured in the United States and has been in business for many years.

I've had five different companies to my home to discuss the purchase of new Windows. Tim from AHT was the least pushy and most helpful of all the salesmen I communicated with to date. The product is exactly what I was looking to purchase for my home. The piece of mind and security for my family and I was met by the AHT product I'm installing in my home. The quality was superior to the other window dealers and I expect the product to last longer then any of the other reputable dealers in Wisconsin. I would highly recommend AHT.

Had the same experience with the guy above, 2 hour sales tactic pitch that infuriated me and my wife by the end. We were both drained from the 3 three ring binders of how this product was better. We finally got the quote and was extremely high (at least 4x what we expected). Got a local contractor in to put in the windows for 1/4 cost and they work just great. He said he wasn't a salesmen but he works off commission (duh-salesmen). We were too polite to kick him out, but we should have after the first hour with no hint of getting a real quote. THEN, if we wanted the super special low price we had to sign an agreement, [redacted]

I would and do highly recommend this buisness (AHT windows) as a great place to do your home improvement buisness with and here is why. First off, it is family owned and operated for 49 years now. They are very passionate about the product and in my firm opinion...the product is superior as demonstrated to me with actual window models. The "heat test" was very impressive in that it really showed that no heat passes thru the triple panes and krypton gas so that means summer heat outside...stays outside and winter furnace heat stays inside so you are cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter which also means your furnace and ac units run less. They are extremely durable and I could go on with all the matching color schemes inside and out and ease of use for cleaning, hardware options and 50 year guarantee etc...The most positive thing for me in addition to the windows really is the family operated buisness and the people who work there. My sales rep (Kevin [redacted]) was extremely respectful of me and my needs and budget. No pressure at all and why should there be because the product speaks for itself in the demonstration. No "Shove down your throat" tactics. He even insisted that I go ahead and grille my steaks so I could eat and he would understand that fully. Kevin Geenen is a real people person and I truly look forward to future window purchases as I have many windows, and I look forward to the upcoming install which I was assured is very clean and conscience. All the people I come into contact with that need windows will be directed to AHT and "Scott...the window guy". I am 50 years old and have been around the block and seen much in life. This company can be trusted and their product in demonstration performed great and I really look forward to owning the windows....[redacted]

We entered the contest as well and when the guy came out to our house he brought the three ring binders as well. It took him 2 hours to do his presentation and he wouldn't discuss price until the very end. When we told him that we weren't looking at immediately placing the windows, maybe in 6 months, he proceeded to get agitated with us stating that we HAVE to get those windows replaced immediately. He then proceeded to offer financing stating that the price that he's giving us now is only going to go up in the future and that we would be dumb to not take advantage of it right now. This whole experience left a very bad taste in our mouths and we were originally interested in the product but not at this time. We will now never do business with this company based on how this Sales Rep acted.

The sales pitch offered by my salesperson was very informative, but was WAY too long. It could have been easily shortened. Our sales appointment was for 6:00pm. He arrived on time, but did not leave until 10:30pm!! I have 2 young children, ages 4 & 22 mths. I had to try to get them in bed and have them occupy themselves for that long because he wouldn't continue to talk unless my husband and I were both standing there. Efforts to push the appointment along failed. He didn't even get into pricing until after 2 hours. I was tired and frustrated by the end. I signed, but may cancel within their cancellation time. Windows were WAY more expensive than we were thinking. We were quoted $5600 for 2 master bedroom windows and 1 smaller bathroom window. I understand they want to show everything that their product is and isn't, but they should be more understanding and respectful of people's time....especially when we had little ones around and were trying to manage both things.

My wife entered the AHT drawing for free windows after which we received multiple calls to mobile phones and at home to set up an appointment for an estimate.
We finally set up an appointment and due to a family emergency was unable to be present. The salesperson arrived on time, did a brief introduction and once he learned my wife was unable to attend, he explained that it wasn't worth his time to present to me then and my wife later. He wanted to reschedule. I explained that regardless of my wife's presence, it was my decision. He then "explained" that there was no way I knew what options I wanted and that he needed to speak to my wife and me both. I almost asked him to leave at that point. I then told him that exactly what options and window type we wanted. I had done my research (of AHT specifically) but that didn't matter. He continued to say he couldn't do more without my wife present.
I challenged him on that at which time he told me that their Angie's List reputation and rating is based upon both homeowners/spouses being present. I challenged him on that and he proceeded to call his "boss". He talked to somebody, but was told that Angie's List is more valuable to them than me as a customer. I call **...[redacted]
So after everything, I couldn't even get a quote for windows. We need windows, we wanted their product and having my spouse their is apparently more important than our business.
To presume that the female spouse is the sole decision maker for large purposes is true in many cases, but it's also not prudent to assume that for all.
I needed windows, wanted these windows but had no idea it would be so difficult to get a quote.

When we bought our 1st home we knew we need to replace our windows but we had no idea how to go about it. I answer a mail in brochure, and setup an appointment to talk about what we may need.
Tim [redacted] from Green bay was great explaining everything. Down to material made from windows and what other companies may try to sale us. With even doing demonstrations to show us the great product and what other companies products do. It was very good information to explain what we never knew.

The salesman was at my house for 3 plus hours and wouldn't give us the price before he showed us one more thing. He was pleasant but the sales tactics were horrible. When we got to the price it was 3 to 4 times what we had anticipated. I told him there was no way at which time he started trying to lower the price and offer financing. I wasn't going to rate this company until I just received a phone call stating that there was room on their truck and if a rep could come out and measure the windows they could offer us a significantly reduced price. I asked what the discount would be and he wouldn't give any pricing over the phone. The more I deal with them the more shady they get. I would stay away.
