They won't let me cancel a membership or even pay to cancel my membership when I dont live by a location to go to be careful to look at your contract before signing it this is ridiculous now I can't go to a gym close to my home cause I'm paying 40$ a month for a gym membership I cant go to this location is in machesney Park and we live in Hampshire illinois .the nearest location by me is 27 minutes away. I guess just dont sign a contract with this gym since they are all independently owned with their own contracts.

Anytime Fitness is the absolute worst gym I have ever signed a contract with. Biggest mistake I have ever made! Come to find out the original gym I signed up with did not have all of the features that the gym I was using has. I like the virtual classes, and I figured all Anytime Fitness gyms had them. Also, the gym in Watertown, SD barely offers any group classes. The owner, and employee are extremely rude, and were not willing to work with me on anything. Horrible customer service, and I was still charged while the gyms were closed due to the pandemic. Anytime Fitness doesn't even deserve 1 star!

This company has yet to contact me regarding my membership. The gyms are closed but they continue to charge me bi-monthly fees. I haven't used this service since March 13th, due to the covid outbreak closing most, if not all, gym access. How can a company continue to charge fees for services not rendered? NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!

I have a membership for Anytime Fitness. I am currently pregnant, with pregnancy related health issues that makes me physically unable to use their facilities. The pregnancy, along with the covid-19 pandemic, have made me unable to work. I have contacted my local office through email, as their phone centers are all shut down. I requested a freeze due do everything going on. They stated they can freeze, but with a $5 monthly fee and it would extend my membership also. Nowhere in my contract does it mention this fee. I asked to cancel the membership as I was told I could do so with a doctors note. I was advised I can only cancel upon death or totally and permanently disabled. I then requested if there are any hardship terms because of covid-having no income from events out of my control. They have since not sent any replies. Even if I was physically able to use the gym, I am not comfortable going to a public facility with this pandemic, yet they continue to charge me, without any options!

The Anytime Fitness location in Palm Desert, California has completely ruined the reputation that the gym holds. Amongst COVID19, they have abused customer requests and deliberately ignored contact in regards to being “credited” for time that the gym hasn’t been open. They’re extending contracts as a “reimbursement” for the time not being able to enter, even when told that is not the desired route. They threaten to charge even more money for cancellation in the midst of the global pandemic. I have paid good money to this location and in return have received the worst customer service I have encountered in my life.

I work security, I was exposed to Covid-19 & tested positive. I contacted anytime fitness when they were shut down on all forms of media, called, emailed with no reply whatsoever. They continued to charge me $180 from Mar-May. Now that they are allowed open, they contact me threatening me with collections for not paying with no explanations or resolutions.

I signed a 18 month contract with Anytime Fitness. I tried to put the membership on hold in mid-March when Covid-19 first began to spike when I felt it was becoming unsafe to work out in the gym due to being an essential worker. I did not want to put myself and the clients I work with at greater risk. I left a message and I missed a call from Anytime. When I returned the call, the Anytime Fitness was shut down and the message stated they would not be checking their voice mails. I was charged for both March and April, even though the Fitness Center was closed for half of March and all of April. On Facebook, it was announced that Anytime would be opening June 10th. I had surgery on my foot and am not able to work out. I brought in a doctor's note and also told the individual in the office that I still do not feel comfortable working out in the gym at this time. I am still an essential employee and I work in a facility where I do not want to bring anything in. I was told that I did not give 30 days notice of cancellation and my doctor's note was not sufficient to cancel my membership early. I would have to pay out the rest of my membership. (I had to pay June and July would be covered by the refund of April). My health concerns and the concerns of the clients that I work with, were not taken into consideration during a pandemic. All that mattered was that they got my money for the months that I could be using their service. There are perfectly healthy people my age dying. A friend of mine was able to call in and get her account put on hold in March with no paperwork and cancel with no issues because she is in her early 70s and diabetic. I am having issues because I am younger and am not diabetic. I am happy for her but this virus is not just taking out people that are vulnerable. The gym completely dismissed my health concerns. I was planning on going back to anytime after this was all over but not anymore. I am very upset with being charge for three months and a yearly equipment fee that I should not have been charged due to the pandemic.

I intially signed up for anytime fitness when they first came into our neighborhood. I was very excited to have a place I could workout that seemed to fit my busy schedule. My agreement information was an expiration of 12 months after the club opening, however they sneakily renewed my membership to an open-ended indefinate term. I have been in contact wtih the owner to try to cancel my membership and continue to be looped around with their contract guidelines which allows you to only cancel 3 days after you signed this contract, you move outside of the 15 mile radius, die/ become permanently disabled or if you violate their policies.

I’ve got a month to month contract. For the month of April anytime fitness did not charge money out of my account. They charged 43 dollars for the month of may. They charged my account on may 21st. The 21st is the usual billing date. I was mad that I had to pay for something I wasn’t using. Decided to just eat the 43 dollars. Then today, June 1, anytime fitness charged my account another 39 dollars for no reason. Two weeks after the first charge. I have already put in my cancellation.

I believe this should be criminal. Blatantly stealing money from people’s account during a pandemic with zero notice.
I want my money back that you stole from me

Hello ***,

We will reach out to the Anytime Fitness in Grovetown, GA and ask that they contact you to address this billing issue. *** our clubs are independently owned and operated so any settlement would have to be made with the Anytime Fitness in Grovetown, GA.

If you would like to speak to a Customer Solutions Specialist at our corporate office please call 1-800-704-5004.

I have been a member of Anytime Fitness for 5 years. When the gyms shutdown for Covid 19, I opted to continue to pay for my training sessions with the understanding that my gym would reopen and all of my training sessions would be doubled. I was continuing to work so I was comfortable continuing to pay knowing I would get extra training when the gyms reopened. During the shutdown, Corporate Anytime Fitness decided to close my gym in West Carrollton, OH permanently. They did not inform members of this until the last minute. They sent an email on 5/21 stating that the gym would be closed and our memberships would be transferred. I feel that they did that to continue to collect money from members. My latest charge was coincidentally on 5/21. If I had known that my gym would be closing I would NOT have continued to pay for training sessions. I have decided to cancel my membership because the other gym is farther away from my job and work (reasons I went to WC gym). I am now out over $450. I have made many attempts to contact the Springboro, OH gym online inquiry (where my membership was going to be transferred), a corporate email I found online and the billing people listed on the website but no one has responded. I am extremely frustrated and would like someone to at least respond much less assist in a refund or explaining why they cannot provide a refund for services I never used/will use. I know this is a frustrating time for everyone but I feel that the way Anytime Fitness Corporate went about this situation was very sketchy and against their motto of high quality service.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 14392221, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. Thank you for your assistance in the matter!

I was in the process of cancelling my membership when all of the clubs closed due to COVID. I reached out to them with my cancellation information since they were still charging even though clubs were closed and they told me they would put a freeze on my account and cancel my membership once they opened. They did not cancel my membership when they opened and were still charging me. They have cancelled my membership but no one will tell me if I can get a refund. The email I had been in contact with keeps telling me they aren't doing anything anymore and I have to contact my club. I contact my club and they say there wasn't anyone to respond to me email when the clubs were closed (even though I sent the proof of my email). The billing company said I have to reach out to the email address that said they aren't doing anything. So I am getting the run around from people and no one will tell me if/when I am going to be refunded, even though I have proof that I shouldn't have been charged.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 14361953, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I signed up to work out at Anytime Fitness, on a no-contract option (and pricing structure) that had only a provision to give a 30-day notice if you wish to leave.

When I informed the owner of the Edmond location of my notice, he said he looked me up in Anytime Fitness system and tried to tell me that I had to fulfill the year obligation and gave me the pricing for the remaining months (told me he was giving me a small price price break off the total). When I consulted my agreement, I confirmed he was incorrect, that I had only obligated to the aforementioned 30-day notice. I notified him on January 15, 2020 via text to his mobile that he was in error, and I was giving my notice and asked if I needed to complete any paperwork (he said no, the notice I have sufficed). I further confirmed that my last payment would be February 1.

However, I was subsequently charged by Anytime Fitness on 3/1 and 4/1. I have texted the owner and tried calling him and received no response. I tried calling corporate Anytime Fitness, and they said that I just needed to take up with the individual gym, only that they would pass along the message to the gym. I have disputed the charges with my credit card, as they are completely invalid.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. This is provisional and assuming they follow through this time around and don’t continue to charge me again.

The gym has been shut down since March and is still charging me. The GYM IS CLOSED. It was not open in March. It won't be open in April. It will not be open in May. I paid for a service. I received no service at all in March, I won't be receiving any service in April. I won't be receiving any service in May either, because the gym is CLOSED. Anybody else in the entire United States of America, that has a gym, is not being charged for a membership. Makes no sense. It ridiculous that I have to go through this about these charges. Not charging someone for NOTHING should be automatic.

Hello ***,

We understand your concerns and frustration with being billed. *** our clubs are independently owned and operated and we will be reaching out directly to the franchisee to address your concerns with continuing to be billed during this COVID 19 crisis.

Thank you, Janet

The gym I signed up with and pay for closed their doors on March 19, 2020, due to COVID-19. Yet they charged me $49.78 on March 30, 2020, for my April Membership when they're closed! They want paying costumers to personally put a freeze on their accounts rather than the business itself to freeze accounts when we're not allowed inside the building. I don't understand why I'm still getting charged when I'm not getting the services I paid for. I didn't sign up for Virtual workouts, that is not in the contract I signed and paid money for nor is it in the monthly membership benefits.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

During the COVID-19 virus I was still getting charged for gym fees even though all gyms were closed and unable to be used during this time. I called Anytime fitness financial center " ABC Financial" and was told that the gyms were still charging for their monthly membership. I am beyond upset about being charged for services that I cannot used to due to the closure of the gyms. The fact that this company continues to allow franchise owners to set their own rules when it comes to billing is beyond disappointing.

I left phone messages, text messages, and messages via company website stating that I'm facing financial hardship due to covid and, considering the gym is closed, I shouldn't be charged a monthly fee. No one responded to my messages. It is illegal to charge for a service that is not being provided. Shameful and unethical.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

My Anytime Fitness membership is the only bill I cannot pay online. I have no access to the contract I signed and no way to track my charges other than to look at my bank account or go in person to the franchisee. The gym is not staffed when I'm off work so this is very inconvenient. Members have no control. There were more fees than I expected from the key chain renewal, new gym improvements, etc. Why I'm being charged is rarely communicated to me. It is very difficult to freeze your contract for a few months or cancel completely. Anytime Fitness handles their billing through a third party, ABC Financial, who seems to provide no value to the process. Members have been waiting weeks to hear if we will be charged during the gym closure for Covid-19. The short answer is yes! During a membership freeze you only pay $5/mo, but they are proposing a credit at the end of your term or freeze your membership for HALF your monthly dues. That is not a freeze and only serves Anytime Fitness. I am paying for services I am not receiving. I have tried their app and like their website, it is way behind the times. I joined AF because I travel a lot and like all the locations I have access to. Like many lesser gums, they prey on inexperienced gym goers for business, guilting them into paying a lot of fees. I am a lifelong gym goers and was insulted by their intake questions like: "why has no fitness program worked for you before?" They assume this about their customers. I'm begging you, don't sign up for the Comcast of gyms, there are better gyms out there!

So disappointed. Hidden fees. If there was a way to leave a zero star I would After waiting months for my wife’s membership and my membership to reach 1 year so I could cancel the memberships I finally Got to cancel them. Only to be told sorry you have to pay and extra month each because
You have to give a 30 day advance notice for cancellations. All they can come up with is I’m sorry that the policy. But I did Get told if I wanted to come back I could get a free month. Which is totally irrelevant, if I wanted to be there I wouldn’t have been cancelling in the first place.

Anytime fitness has been billing my account for the last 24 months.
I have made multiple attempts to have this membership cancel. I have never used the membership ever. I have been billed for the last 24 months for $36.99 each month. Being told it will be cancel and each month charge keep showing as a debit to my account. I am a truck driver I have spend as much time calling to get this cancel as much as i'm driving for work. This has been a nightmare all I want is for this membership to be cancel and my money back for the last 24 months.
I called ABC financially which is the company Anytime Fitness has withdrawing my account each month. Spoke with Courtney she advised their company never gotten nothing from Anytime Fitness to stop debiting my account each month. Courtney can be reach at . I haven't heard nothing else about my refund from Anytime Fitness. I never used membership ever I just want my refund issue back to my account. Nobody does nothing headquarters haven't step in nor local office. This is awful why is it so, hard for Anytime Fitness to do right by customers. I have spend so much time trying to cancel and get my money back.

Hello ***,

We apologize that your are having such a difficult time with your Anytime Fitness membership. *** our clubs are independently owned and operated, and the agreement that you signed with your location is between the two parties. We will be reaching out directly to the franchisee to ask them to work on getting this issue resolved as soon as possible.

Thank you

My wife *** attempted to cancel our membership at our local gym. She was told all she had to do was call an outside company to cancel. This company was ABC Financial. She was not given any expectation as to what would be required to cancel, only given a name and number and told they would be able to cancel it. After calling them the day before our automatic renewal would process, she then found out that they required a letter to be sent certified mail (which cost us $6 just to mail) and once they received it, they would then cancel the following billing date after 30 days from the date on the letter. This cause the month of January to then be billed. I then proceeded to contact the gym, in which they recognized my wife was provided information, and I advised we just want them to stop billing us for something we haven't used in months. The man at the location was helpful, and escalated the issue to the owner to assist in stopping the next month payment once the letter was received to cancel. I have since sent the letter, confirmed it was received, and they have still yet to cancel our membership, and now they have billed us for another month. Now the "Owner" is no longer returning any of my emails requesting a status update. As consumers, we are being taken advantage of due to very questionable billing and cancellation practices in which nobody will take accountability for with Anytime Fitness.

Hello,

We are sorry to hear that your wife is having such a hard time ending her membership. Please understand that our clubs are independently owned and operated and the agreement that was signed may require a 30 day notice to cancel the renewal. We will reach out to the club and provide them with your request. We hope this issue can be resolved.

Thank you, Janet
