Art Van Evansville Reviews (%countItem)

First of all, beware of the positive reviews below. To see a more accurate description of their customer reviews just go to their facebook page and scroll down to the comments of LOTS of unhappy customers.
My husband and I bought a couch and loveseat on June 14, 2020 and was assured by Kent it would arrive in 3-4 weeks. 4 weeks go by and no couch or loveseat and we've been told that it may possibly come August 28th (10 weeks from purchase date) but that wasn't guaranteed. When we ordered, we stressed to Kent we needed items that would arrive quickly as we had already sold our living room furniture. We were also told we just needed to pick out something else and they would apply the purchase price we already paid toward the item and would need only pay the difference. We DO NOT want to do that as we picked our couch and loveseat for a specific reason and wanted them. I have asked repeatedly to be refunded or sold the floor model and have been told no each time. They said they aren't allowed, but I have screenshots of them telling a lady on facebook who was complaining about wanting her money back, that she could come in and have the floor model of what she ordered. I also have screenshots of two separate customers who told me they were finally refunded (one in person and one had to dispute the charge with the bank.)
I also want to add that their customer service is reprehensible at best. Each time we've called, we were told we would receive a prompt call back, to no avail. This is also MANY other customers' complaint. We would have to call again. We even had to drive (we live over an hour and 20 minutes away) down to the store after not getting any responses on when our furniture would be in. Once at the store one clerk told us it would definitely be in Monday. Monday comes, I call, first lady tells me it's it the back then I'm placed on hold, then told by a second person the items didn't arrive!!! When we called to complain Kent spoke over me the entire time, constantly interrupted me, and basically tried to belittle me by explaining that furniture is made over seas and has to cross a very large ocean on a boat to get to America and that I need to be patient. LOL! My husband and I are at our wits' end and at this point are praying we receive a refund or the floor model of the furniture we paid for. In all my years, I have never had a customer service experience like this one. So disappointing.

Won't buy anything else there. They won't service their warranty. I have been trying for several months even before covid to get someone to come down to repair or replace a couple of dining room chairs.

Large furniture purchase and purchased the best warranty on the products. Bed was broken almost immediately, waiting over 5 months to get it fixed.
We purchased over $6,000 in furniture from Art Van in Evansville, IN in July 2019. We also purchased their Gold warranty program, which is their best advertised warranty program. We had the furniture delivered mid July 2019.

My son's bunk/bed/dresser combination was delivered along with the other furniture and put together at my residence by contractors from Art Van. While putting together my son's bunk bed, they advised me that the boards put under the beds were not sufficient to hold the weight of anyone and asked me if they told us at the store that we needed to purchase "bunkee-boards" to support the weight of someone sleeping on the bed. Art Van had never advised us of this and this started the problems with this store. I called and spoke with a manager and he advised that our salesperson should have told us this. He claimed that he was new and probably forgot, and I was advised I would have to purchase an additional bunkee boards so my kids could sleep in their beds. Obviously after spending over $6,000 this did not sit well with me. They refused to provide the bunkee boards free of charge and said they would give them at a discounted rate, but they were not in stock, meaning my kids could not sleep in their bed until they came in. This was not our fault and after some more complaining, the manager said we could go buy plywood and put it under the beds and it would be sufficient. I advised the manager we did not live in town where we could just go out and buy it. The manager finally agreed after I wanted the furniture picked up and my money back to bring plywood, which to his credit he did within a few hours.
My son slept on the bed a few nights and the bed's wood frame separated from the main bed, cracking down the middle. My son weighs less than 40 lbs and is 4 years old. We called Art Van and told them the bed had broken and they requested pictures to start the warranty process (Early August 2019). We sent the requested pictured and after a few weeks a contractor for Art Van came and looked at the bed and said he couldn't fix it and he would have to have the part ordered. Several more weeks and we had not heard anything and we called Art Van again to check on the status of the part for the bed. They acted surprised and put me on hold for awhile and came back and said they checked with the warranty company and the part had just been ordered the previous day (Beginning of September) and it would be a couple more weeks. I waited approximately one more month and called again and told again it was still going to be a few more weeks. I called again in November, this time to the corporate Offices in Michigan. They told me they were sorry and someone had messed up but the franchise store in Evansville would have to handle it, and I should reach out to their owner.
I reached out to the franchise owner three times, each time, told he would call me back and I never was called back. On the November call back, the secretary informed me that they would include free bunkee boards this time when the part for the broken bed came in. In mid December, I received a call from Art Van stating my bunkee boards were in. I asked what about the part for the broken bed? The man replied he didn't know anything about that and said he would check and call me back. Again, no call-back. We paid over $1,200 for my son's bed and he had been able to use it only a few nights since July and when I called today to talk to the owner again, they said he was out of the office. I replied that I was going to have to file a complaint with the Revdex.com and they said do what you need to do.
Having spent this much money at this Art Van store and to be treated like this is completely unacceptable. The other furniture with our order has been great, no complaints there. Please help us out as we can not get any resolution with this company!! We would like the bed fixed or a refund if they refuse to do so.

Desired Outcome

We would like the bed fixed/replaced and the bunkee boards we were promised also. We have not been able to use the bed since August 2019. I think they should provide some type of compensation refund for the bed and/or warranty program that we paid for.

Art Van Evansville Response • Jan 24, 2020

First of all, We apologize for the poor service in getting the issue corrected. Since this was a mfg issue, we have to send through a specific company. We did not, however, follow up closely enough to see that it was taking way to long to remedy. After being made aware, we have ordered a new set of rails as opposed to just ordering a part which is what happened prior. The new rails unfortunately won't be available until late February/early March. We will also be giving the customer a new bunkie board at no cost. We will also be giving the customer a $100 instore credit.

Customer Response • Jan 29, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
We appreciate the response however we have been waiting since August to have this bed repaired. We have been told it would be 3-4 weeks each time and now it will be 6-7 months until we have this part? Do they not have any of these beds in stock? We want the bed replaced or our money back at this point. An in-store credit does not help us as we just want the bed fixed. The business owner has still not reached out to us and returned any of our calls. Our son has not been able to use the bottom bed at all and we are going on 6-7 months after having paid a large sum of money for this furniture purchase. This is not acceptable. We paid a lot of money for the Gold warranty package which is their best package and nothing has been fixed yet.

First of all, we regret any issue getting service to attend to the furniture issue. Due to the delay caused by the 3rd party service company, we have reordered the chair for the customer and is scheduled to be delivered on 11/12.

Paula was extremely helpful when I called to inquire about a dining room table. Then when I arrived at the store she handled the transaction with such ease. I will definitely do business again with Van Art Furniture.

BEST customer service you could ever hope for when purchasing furniture! Art Van Furniture is new to Evansville, IN - so I was extremely impressed, especially after reading about the company's history.
As for the Evansville location, PAULA S is an amazing salesperson and an extreme asset to the company!!! Cannot speak highly enough of this woman, and the store manager - Jerry, was a true pleasure in the purchase process.
Would DEFINITELY recommend this company/store to anyone looking for furniture!
