Mrs. [redacted] is mistaken about many things.  Our workmanship warranty is perfectly good. If she would have had a leak caused by something we replaced on her roof or gutter system we would have covered the damage. The problem is that the piece of fascia board causing the leak (this is...

the ONLY area on the roof leaking regardless of the many items Mrs. [redacted]ed in her complaint) was not supposed to be replaced under our contract.  When we installed the roof and gutters this piece of wood looked fine. No signs of wood rot.  Two and a half years later it shows signs of rot because the house was not maintained properly.  Exposed wood has to be painted every so often in order to keep moisture out. It is apparent the house hasn't been painted in 10 years or more.  We are not responsible for leaks arising from a piece of wood we did not replace/work on that rotted due to the customer's negligence in maintaining their home.
After Mrs. [redacted] reported the leak I visited the home to take a look.  They were under the assumption the furnace pipe was leaking.  This is what "another contractor" told them.  It was very apparent the leak had nothing to do with the furnace pipe but was due to the rotted fascia board in question.  I took photos of the deteriorated wood, showed Mr. [redacted] and even tried to help them by putting caulking on the wood to temporarily seal it in until it could be replaced (Mr. [redacted] said they were having some siding and trim work done soon). When I left the house it was understood we were not responsible.
I assume Mrs. [redacted] didn't find this answer satisfactory because it meant she had to pay for the damage.  She emailed me asking me to pay for the damage. I explained why we were not responsible and told her no. After this Mrs. [redacted] filed a claim against our General Liability insurance.. For anyone who knows how insurance companies work, if we had any liability whatsoever our insurance carrier would have paid the claim to avoid unsuccessful litigation. Our insurance carrier found we had absolutely no liability.  They denied and closed Mrs. [redacted]' claim.  After that we received the Revdex.com complaint.
Mrs. [redacted] does not have an all encompassing home warranty.  She has a 5 year workmanship warranty ONLY on work that we completed.  We will never change our mind.  We are not responsible at all and will not pay for the leak that Mrs. [redacted] experienced.  We would be more than happy to show the Revdex.com a copy of the contract and photos of the area so they can decide for themselves.  This complaint shouldn't show up on our record.  The complaint deals with something not even [redacted]ed in the contract's scope of work.
The remainder of Mrs. [redacted] complaint is irrelevant.  It's not worth addressing.  The piece of wood that caused the leak was not supposed to be replaced in our contract. It was not maintained as it should have been which led to the wood rotting.  We hope the Revdex.com will look at the photos and the contract and completely remove this frivolous complaint.
Mrs. [redacted]' insurance company denied her claim for this component because they don't cover wood rot.  We denied her warranty request. Our general liability insurance carrier denied her claim.  These companies, including ours, know that wood rot is caused by not maintaining the property.  Once again, it has nothing to do with our workmanship.

The first thing I must say is thank you to Mrs. [redacted] for bringing to attention our great Revdex.com rating.  In the past 3 years our company has dealt with thousands of consumers and we have only received 3 complaints to the Revdex.com in that 36 month time frame.  If you look at other roofing contractors in Louisville you will see that 3 is a good number.  I know Mrs. [redacted] meant this to be an insult but I am glad she brought it up.  We hold an A+ rating with the Revdex.com and an A rating with [redacted]'s [redacted].  Our company is well established and trusted by many people in this area.  Attached is a copy of the contract signed by Mrs. [redacted].  As you can see, on the contract flashing is [redacted] as "N/A".  Flashing was NOT a part of our contract.  You can also see that the furnace exhaust cap and storm collar are NOT [redacted]ed anywhere on the contract.  There is also NO notation about replacing a rotted fascia board because when we did the job the board looked fine.Everything Mrs. [redacted] mentioned in her last response is NOT a part of the contract that she signed.  NOT A SINGLE ITEM.  She wants us to pay for something that we did not replace.  Mrs. [redacted] knew this in advance; I went over this contract with her in person before she signed it.I have also attached photos. The photo titled "[redacted]2" shows how badly the board deteriorated. We are not responsible for a board (that we did not replace) rotting away.  We maintain that if the board would have been maintained properly it would not have rotted. This is what happens when you have exposed wood on the exterior of the home and you don't check on it/paint it regularly.  The photo "[redacted]3" shows the design.  Putting a piece of flashing behind the rotted board is impossible without a major amount of work. The soffit and fascia boards would have to come off on both side of the lower level roof peak. It is an EXTREMELY tight area as well.  The previous roof used caulking to seal this area (we did the same).  In the photo titled "[redacted]2" you can see this caulking is in great shape still.  The rotted board IS THE WHOLE PROBLEM. THAT'S WHY WE KEEPING TALKING ABOUT IT.  NO ROTTED BOARD = NO LEAK. Even if we would have managed to get flashing behind the board (which we weren't contracted to do), once the board rotted, water would have just went into the board and behind the flashing, still causing a leak.The complaint about the gutters deserves little attention.  I saw the gutters when I went to diagnose and inspect the leak.  The gutters are fine.  They are causing no issues.Finally, we received an email from our insurance company stating they closed the claim and found that Beams Roofing & Contracting had no liability.  I assume Mrs. [redacted] has not been kept up to date by her insurance company as this email came a couple weeks before Mrs. [redacted]' last response.We ask the Revdex.com to review ALL the facts above.  The contract and the photos.  Please remove this complaint from our report.  Mrs. [redacted] is complaining about things that are NOT [redacted]ed on the contract and were not in our scope of work.  If the Revdex.com allows this to stay it will be visible for 3 years.  After reviewing all the facts can you really say this is a valid complaint and should be allowed to be seen by all Revdex.com consumers?  Once again, we will not pay for any of the damages because none of this was our fault.  I even tried to help Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] by temporarily sealing the leaking area until they could get it fixed.  I was honest with them about what I saw and that we weren't responsible for it.  I'm truly sorry it has came to all of this.  We value all of our customers and never want anything like this to happen.  It is very unfortunate.Regards,[redacted]Beams Roofing & Contracting
