Black Optix Tint and Audio Reviews (41)

01/30/2015, I brought my vehicle in for tinting. While the price was satisfactory, I’ve encountered series of unpleasant experiences.
The first time I picked the vehicle up, the back window was terribly wrong. There were several bubbles and the tint did not cover the entire back window. You could see major light gaps in various places even when sitting in the front seat looking thru the rearview. The areas that were trimmed were very uneven and even jagged in some areas. I brought the vehicle back immediately and the window was redone, but not before I expressed grave concern about the removal of the tint as the window does house defrost lines. I was assured that the tint would be “steamed off” and that it would not affect the defrost lines at all.
When I picked the vehicle back up, I was already late for another engagement so did not have time to look it over thoroughly. To my disappointment, when I got in the vehicle I noticed a huge crease in the tint. I brought the vehicle back a third time and it was agreed to (again) redo the rear window. No offer was given to repair the other windows. When I picked the vehicle up there was severe damage done to the rear defrost lines as a result of removing the tint, which I was assured wouldn't happen.
I have to admit, I was very dissatisfied. I made a sincere attempts at looking over this problem, but ultimately wasn't able to. Equally, neither could anyone else who is a car enthusiast who looked at it. The back window looks horrible. The defrost lines were damaged and it is very noticeable. The entire window looks pretty bad in many spots. I really tried to get past the rear defrost damage, as well as other spots that had trashed trapped, trimmed very uneven in many areas, and was extremely noticeable.
For a fourth time, I carried the vehicle back and spoke with [redacted] one of the owners. I pointed out the problem areas and explained what I had previously experienced. He agreed that the job had been done incorrectly and that the damage to the defrost lines were in fact a result of the tint being removed by his employees. He explained that they did not have a “steam” process, that I had been misinformed, and admitted that this misinformation was a result of bad management then in place. He then informed me that he went thru a bad batch of employees and management who did not share the same work ethic as he, but assured me he had the proper management in place and that my vehicle would be properly repaired. He instructed me that when I was ready to drop it off, to speak only with [redacted] his manager.
07/24/2015 When I dropped my vehicle off, I spoke with [redacted], who has since been fired, but was the manager at the time. He explained to me that the tint used to cover my windows was of sub-standard quality, and that he would personally re-tint the windows "with the good stuff". We discussed at great length the concern I had regarding the back window. He then retrieved the co-owner (name unknown, but claims to be [redacted] brother in-law) who immediately agreed that damage was done because of the tint removal, and who also assured me that the situation would be rectified.
I picked the vehicle up when it was finished and again spoke with [redacted]. He informed me that he was in contact with [redacted] regarding the back window and that when one could be found, someone would be in contact with me. Two weeks passed without an update, so I reach out to [redacted] via email. I explained in the email that while I was impressed with how rapidly my concerns were addressed, the back window issue had not been resolved, there were light gaps (tint did not cover the entire window) in one of the windows that had been redone, as well as a few other minor discrepancies (driver side window film is beginning to separate from the window).
A week passed without a response to my email, so I reached out via phone. After leaving two messages, I finally received a return call from the brother in-law. It was then that I was informed that Black Optix Tint was not going to stand behind their mistake, that there were no intentions of repairing/replacing the back window, and no intentions of repairing any mistakes recently made. He informed me that the workers who were present at my first re-visit (the bad batch who were supposedly fired) stated that they informed me there would be damage done to the rear defrost if the tint was removed. I would have NEVER agreed to this being done had I not been reassured there would be no damage. He then personally attacked me saying that because I tinted windows over 20 years ago, that I should be well aware of what methods are used today. Again, I haven’t tinted windows in over 20 years, and therefore it’s not necessary for me to keep up to date with current methods. That’s why I hired them assuming they were the professionals.
The business claims a limited warranty on the Standard film (the substandard film first applied) and lifetime warranty on the Carbon Film (the “good stuff” recently applied).
I DO NOT recommend this business to any consumer in Richmond or in Myrtle Beach. It is obvious that the owners do not stand behind their product or share the same ethics as those who employ them for their services.

To whom it may concern,
We have made several attempts to get Ms [redacted] back over to our shop so we can...

finish the tint on her VW. We need her to schedule an appointment so we can finish. Due to the abnormal curvature of the window it takes longer. Unfortunately we do not offer refunds which is posted in our location.Sincerely,

Hello,We are responding to case #[redacted]. Mrs [redacted] first complaint was that the process took to long, however she never stated that she was on her lunch break. The manager tried apologizing for the delay but Mrs [redacted] became very belligerent, cursing and banging on our walls, we do not...

tolerate this behavior in our establishment. Mrs [redacted] second complaint is that we cut her gasket and the tint was misaligned. It is impossible that we cut her gaskets because we use a plotter to precut the window tint, therefore a blade never touches her window. We offer a lifetime warranty on the product and installation. If she would like us to realign the tint she can schedule an appointment and we will be more than happy to oblige. We do ask that she act respectful in our place of business. Thanks management,Black Optix Tinting LLC

To whom it may concern,
We are not quite sure what Mr [redacted] is complaining about. Hes complaing about...

our Richmond VA location, but this says he live in Myrtle Beach SC. Our advertised prices all state "starting at" but out of millions of tires some are more expensive. Mr [redacted] is more than welcome to come in and purchase tires for $69.Black Optix Tinting

To whom it may concern,We offered to fix the side panel and we would install it. The tint has a lifetime warranty which we would be more than happy to fix. The damage to her side panel wasn't caused by our company due to the location it would be virtually  impossible for our installer to...

scratch, there's not a window in that location. Unfortunately we do not offer refunds at our location, we do have at sign posted. Sincerely,[redacted]

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. The panel was indeed scratched by the installer and the store management acknowledged this. It is located between the two windows which were tinted (removed once and tinted twice due to the poor installation), so the claim by the store owner in his response is completely inaccurate . If the shop does not pay for the part and the minimal cost for dealer installation of this damaged panel/pillar, I will be taking them to court.

I have had many of my cars windows tinted over the past 16 years here in Richmond and this these guys have it down to a science! The job was flawless, I would have paid three times the price. As promised, right price and on time, keep up the good work.

Review: Black Optix Tint put an automatic starter in my vechicle that was put in incorrect. I had to go back to them three times for the same problem about the door locks. Three times I asked them where they sure about the job only to be, told no problem. On the last time the part owner worked on my SUV only to fry my computer and burn my cencures. Only thing they said was to take it back to the dealer and they will pay for damage . That was 8 days ago only to find out they did not file a claim with there insurance. This happened on March 30,2015 dealer worked on my SUV April 4 and on the 5 I was told about all the damage. The dealer called them on April 5 giving them enough time to file the claim.Desired Settlement: Pay for the repair to the dealer and a refund of my money. They took the starter out of my truck and all I have are the key fob, and no starter or truck do to them not paying for repairs.

Review: I brought my car in on April 6th for a tint job and noticed air bubbles and misaligned tint. I contacted Black Optix to inform them of the situation and was told to bring my car back in. I called the very next day to schedule an appointment to fix the tint. I was told that I could bring it now therefore I left my job and arrived within 15 minutes. Upon arriving the lady inspected the errors I referenced and stated to me that it would be 30 minutes or less. I said okay I'm on my lunch break I can wait. After waiting about 50 minutes I asked how much longer it will be on my car. She went back to check and she told me it would be 20 minutes. I was taken by surprise because she told me another 20 mins on a repair that would take 30 minutes or less so to tell me 20 more minutes I was a little perturbed. I asked her had they started on my car because I was on my lunch break and she said yes. If they had not started I would have left and came back but at that point I could not leave. I waited another 25 minutes and again asked how much longer and I was not happy at this point. I said this is ridiculous and inconsiderate. She stated they were working on another car before yours. I said you should have told me that at first or at the very least the first time I asked about my car. So basically she lied when she said the started on my car as her statements are contradicting. She went back to ask how much longer. She came out responding it will be another 15 minutes I stated "another 15 minutes" and I was angry. I did not understand how 30 minutes or less went from 50 minutes to an additional 25 minutes to an additional 15 minutes etc. so we're at two hours or so at this point. By this time I am extremely angry I expressed my anger and I told her they need to hurry up and finish my car. She stated do you want the tint to fly out the window. I told her I just need my car. I waited another 10 or 15 minutes and still no car. No one was in the waiting area with me so I had no one to ask about my car. The female that was working at the cash register went back into the office and stayed there. I bammed on the restricted area door because I needed my car. They did not respond to me therefore I used my cell phone to to call the store since I was not getting a response by banging on the door. She answered the telephone and I explain to her I need my car because I need to get back to work. She went through the restricted area I'm assuming to let them know that I wanted my car. She told me that they would bring my car around in a minute so I stood outside and a minute had passed and they had not brought my car so I wait for another 5 or 10 minutes. I'm extremely pissed at this point so I called my husband explain to him the situation and that they will not give me my car he advised me to call the police. I saw one of the workers walk back to the restricted area and ask him if he could check on my car. He came back through saying nothing so I said did you check on my car? He yelled to the back as he was walking out the door to complete the task he was working on "how much longer on the Forester" and no one responded. I then phoned the non emergency police number and began to explain the situation. Finally probably after a total of another 25 minutes or so they brought my car around the lady just left my car in the area with the keys in the seat not acknowledging me nor apologizing not saying anything. So I was very angry and I told her she was rude she turned around and said no you're rude as if I had no reason to be.

Obviously they do some thing's right but no one is perfect so they have their share of mistakes and it seems as if they could careless about making their wrongs right. They want to stand behind their No Refund Policy. After this experience I feel their No Refund Policy protects them when providing bad service/customer service.

Btw my tint is still misaligned and cuts are in the rubber where the installer tried to fit the tint for the window...who is going to pay for your mess up? I signed nothing approving you to post my car. Its unfortunate they can't see the crappy work.Desired Settlement: I would like for the owner to call my husband to discuss the situation instead of his employees responding via [redacted]. I would like partial refund and compensation for the cuts in the rubber trim. I know they are going to say they didn't do it as you notice the trend in the other complaints but my car is brand new, I just got it in March and those cuts were not there.

Review: Posted an ad stating "new tires installed 69.99" when I asked if they had my size in Stock the said yes but they were now 100.00 each. Others commented and as well were quoted a higher price than in their ad. I asked what size tires were included in the 69.99 price since they claimed in their ad all were but refused to tell me which ones. If no one has the size tire they claim are 69.99 but don't tell you than why say all new tires 69.99 installed?!!Desired Settlement: I'd like for them to not try to reel people into a scam by false advertising.

I like to review companies when impressed. Black Optix Tint was very profession and shop is very well laid out. I had my my quote and scheduling done via email, end product was superb. This company tinted my 2015 Lexus and it came out looking gorgeous. Thanks guys and gals

Review: I went to Black Optix to have my vehicle windows tinted. I purchased a tint package and after picking up my vehicle I immediately noticed that the tint on the two front windows had creases and the tint on the back window had several dozen vertical scratches. I called and they said to bring the vehicle back and that they would remove the tint and redo the job. I did exactly this and Black Optix re-tinted the vehicle but once again there were issues with the tint. There was also extensive damage to the interior of the vehicle. The interior pillar on the passenger side of the vehicle was scratched approximately 20 times and now requires replacement. In addition, the tint on the back window is torn on the edges and the tint on the two front windows is jagged/torn on the front edges and was not fitted properly.Desired Settlement: (Refund and Reimbursement for Damage Repairs/Parts) I received a quote from a [redacted] dealership for the damaged interior pillar (part and install). Black Optix should be required to pay for the part and install based on the fact that their installer damaged my vehicle. I also want a refund on the tint package I purchased , so that I can have it re-tinted at a reputable shop.

Review: I was in the process of paying 355.00 to have a minimal amount of lights added to the front of my car. I made a 125.00 deposit. The lights were not what I asked for....I asked for lights bright enough to serve as daytime running lights. The lights installed were only visible after dusk/nightfall and one of the lights were installed extremely crooked. Based on these two things, the lights were removed immediately. The business states I could not get a refund, only a store credit. Initially, when I set up the transaction, I was not advised verbally of a no refund policy and on both of my receipts it does not state "no refund, store credit only". There is also nothing posted stating the policy in the store. The owner (Randall) and his manager were asked to provide their no refund policy in writing or where it was posted and they could not do so. I am requesting a full refund, not a store credit. This transaction was not completed based on the actions of the business not based on my actions.Desired Settlement: A full refund, not a store credit.

Black Optix tinting was very knowledgable and professional. The shop is state-of-the-art and pricing was very affordable. Manager and staff were very inviting and the work was impeccable.

Review: I made an appointment to the windows on my [redacted] tinted at Black Optix in late November, and was given an estimated time of 2 hours to complete the job. On 12/21/2015, I took my car in for window tinting at 9AM, and was told by an associate it would take 2 hours to 2 1/2 hours to complete. I did not leave the shop until 3PM when I had to leave to get to another scheduled appointment. All windows were tinted that day, however, the job was done very poorly. The manager agreed, and asked that I bring my car in again so that the flaws and problems could be worked out. I returned on 12/29/2015 at 9AM. This time I dropped my car off. After almost 12 hours, my car WAS NOT finished, and the manager asked if I could leave my car over night. The side windows are complete and appear to be well (I couldn't really see how good the work was considering that was almost 9PM when the manager brought my car around). The back windshield is not done. The manager acknowledged that the tinter had a lot of difficulty with the back windshield, and had done many attempts to get it right. She offered that I could bring my car in on Sunday (their off day) and the owner from South Carolina might be able to tint the back windshield. If he could not, I guess someone else would be complete the job. Honestly, after 6 hours on the first attempt and 12 hours on the second attempt, I am not interested in having my car held hostage for many hour or being inconvenienced while they try to figure out how to tint the back windshield. Also, I was not informed of the refund policy at any time until I requested a partial refund. When asked for the refund policy in writing, the manager walked away from my mom and I. My receipt doesn't state their refund policy. The policy is written on the cash register, but it isn't at eye level and is not noticeable. I do not want store credit as I will not return to this business for anything else in the future.Desired Settlement: Partial refund

Response:

I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

When I scheduled the appointment, I was told the job would take 2 hour to 2 1/2 hours to complete due to the curve of my back windshield by the manager. When I arrived on December 21, 2015 for my appointment, another associate quoted me the same time frame. It actually took them 6 hours to hint all of the windows (the 2 side windows on each side and the back windshield). I was not satisfied with the work, and neither was the manager. I rescheduled the following Tuesday, December 29, 2015, to correct the tint. I dropped my car off instead of waiting this time, and it was a good thing that I did. After having my car for 12 hours, on the rear windows on each side tinted. Not the driver side window or the passenger side window or the back windshield. Just the 2 smaller rear windows on each side. I have given Mr. [redacted] and his associates plenty of opportunities to correct their errors (2 appointments and 18 hours of my Winter Break that I will never get back), and I feel that his employees are skilled enough to tint my car. I DO NOT have any more time for Mr. [redacted] and Black Optix Tint to waste. Because I feel that I have given these "professional" enough opportunities and time to do the job many time over and they were unable to, I would like a refund. I would be a fool to take my car back there, and to allow more of my time to be wasted. Also, having lodged a complaint against the this company, I do not trust them to not harm my car. The only satisfactory action that Mr. [redacted] can do is to issue a full refund.
