Capital Collection Service Reviews (23)

Review: The bill I received from the company was $140 but the Capital Collection insisted it was $182.00. After paying the $140 - 4 co-pays of $35.00 each via money order and letter including original bill - Capital Collection began harassing me by consistently calling my home phone and cell phone to discuss the $42.00, they felt was a remainder. I called and let them know that I felt the account was settled since all bills from the original doctor were for $140.00 and I had attached the original bill. The operator instantly passed me off to her supervisor without discussing issue at all. Mr. "[redacted]" - told me it was a 20% fee assessment. I told him that 20% of $140 would be $28.00. He then said he wasn't sure but would look for the bill and send me a copy. I told him again that I considered bill paid in full if he could not validate the $182 because his assessment was not adding up right. Mr. [redacted] then requested to access my medical records. This is extremely concerning to me - why would a collection agency need to access my medical records in order to establish validity of the bill. Wouldn't they have all the information neccessary. Mr. [redacted] kept pressuring me to either give him access to the medical records or he would send a bill. I am deeply concerned about Mr. [redacted]' insistence on obtaining access to my medical records. This does not seem valid and actually very intimidating and scary. I kept asking for him to pull up the original bill or look in file. He kept insisting that I didn't understand insurance billing and he could either send me a bill or he could settle it now by looking at medical records. When I kept insisting that the bill was paid - Mr. [redacted] hung up the phone on me. I feel very unsettled about this transaction and that a bill collector would seek access to private medical records. IDesired Settlement: From the bill I enclosed them, I am paid in full. This bill is on the original doctor stationary and signed by the company. I am completely unsettled by this company's continued insistance on accessing my private medical files. I feel harassed and threatened by them. I wish the bill to be marked paid in full and all conversations with this company to come to a close.

Response:

Capital Collection Service had a bill placed for the amount of 182.00. The consumer did advise after making partial payments in the amount of $140.00 that they felt this was the only amount due. the remaining $42.00 was marked as disputed at that time. the consumer was advised that the client may have added fees and interest per the patient agreement if the balance was unpaid prior to collections. The account has been placed on hold and an a validation of debt request was sent to the client. any balance inaccuracys will be updated on the file with Capital Collection Service and a copy of the itemized statement specifically for these services would be sent to the consumer. Capital Collection Service has Business Associate Agreements in place with out medical providers we preform services for. Capital Collection Service would only be requesting the minimum amount necessary to complete the task of collections of this specific invoice , not the patients medical records. The account has been placed on an active collections hold until a complete account investigation regarding the consumers concerns is completed.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because Mr. [redacted]' behavior was intimidating and extremely unsettling. There should be no reason for a collection company to access medical records with contain extremely private information. The company had no data on the bill the were collecting. As a collection agency they should be able to provide information concerning the bill immediately and have no need to access personal medical information. They should also have a clear understanding of the bill and give accurate information, instead of making random guesses that do not add up. I am truly concerned about their professionalism and validity of information provided, especially due to the aggressive nature in which Mr. [redacted] repeatedly requested access to my personal medical information. I am also concerned about the safety of my personal medical information due again to the aggressive manner in which Mr. [redacted] tried to access the information.

Review: Applied for credit card which was denied due to a charged off account. Purchased credit reports for all three major companies. One agency ([redacted]) had said charge listed, but none of the others did. The charge in question is apparently from 2008 but only showed on a single report as of June 2014. The collection agency, [redacted], at [redacted], NJ 08091, Phone: ###-###-####, was then contacted about said charge. They disclosed that the account was for a charged off bank account with [redacted]. After asking for more information they became aggressive and rude to an extent that I have never experienced before. Eventually, after asking for the information to confirm the information and not receiving it, the agency stated "I have other calls from people that are not worthles and actually want to pay their debts owed," and hung up. I then phoned [redacted] to find out if there was ever an account open in my name with their business. [redacted] stated that they have no information on file for me and that they could go back at least ten years. The credit report also lists a phone number and address for the collector which appears to be valid under a company name for a company that does not exist.Desired Settlement: 1) Negative mark should be removed from credit reports.

2) Account should be removed from their databases.

3) Company should be penalized for fraudulent practice, aggression, intimidation, and harassment.

Response:

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

When aggressively attempting to collect a debt from an individual and the original "creditor" states that no account ever existed for said debt, the least that can be done is to send documentation of closure to accused "debtor." This is lazy business. Without proper documentation there is very little recourse should there be an issue. Submitting the removal online does not show proper steps were taken to resolve this matter as the legal system requires documentation as evidence to support assertions. Without such it is no more factual than any other statement.
