Chimney Sweeps Reviews (49)

To whom it may concern;I was surprised to receive this report as Mr. [redacted] and my company have been addressing his concerns well prior to this notice and in fact I have been trying to reach him every night for the past four days, and unfortunately have been unable to reach. Mrs [redacted]...

was present during the time of inspection/work and certainly appeared to be an intelligent women capable of making rational decisions and for our technicians to assume anything else would have been an insult to her. Mr [redacted] suggests that we only provided verbal recommendations and then presented a final bill which is not what occurred. I have Mrs. [redacted]'s initials okaying the work with exactly what was needed and exact prices broken down by each repair prior to anything being done as well as her full signature of satisfaction with the completed work. Adobe is a material that experts in the field as well as Chimney Sweeps, Inc recommend have water repellant applied to often (some experts even recommend every 3-4 years). We use a specially designed elastomeric adobe sealant which allows the adobe to expel water vapors trapped inside without allowing further absorption of moisture. It is a highly rated quality material that requires a contractors license to obtain and is ordered from back east at great expense and is the only thing we use because it doesn't do the damage to adobe that other typical sealants do.The crown repair done to the top of the chimney is a vital repair as water was entering the chimney itself and causing internal damage. What Mr. [redacted] refers to as "smearing goop" is in fact a delicate process of restoration and repair with highly expensive and complex cements and sealants; industry rated materials acquired at great expense from back east. The chimney having been built in 1967 and never sealed, repaired or properly maintained was indeed leaking and the damage was evident upon inspection after years of exposure to the elements.Mr. [redacted] also seems to be under the impression that we are responsible for the large number of broken tiles on his roof which is not the case. Prior to the full inspection our technicians noted the broken tiles and made Mrs. [redacted] aware both verbally and on our written condition report which breaks down in depth the state of the roof and the many broken tiles we found during the course of our inspection.In speaking to Mr [redacted] I have already granted him a full refund upon the return of the Heat Reflector which they decided they did not want. As far as his estimation of our material cost his figures are are well below our actual cost, but in seeking a quick resolution Chimney Sweeps, Inc would be willing to refund (after the $329 for the Heat Reflector) an additional $939 which would be a total refund of $1261.00. These guys are great! I saw Chimney Sweeps Inc. at my neighbors home on a saturday morning and decided to have them check mine. They confirmed my suspicions of roof rot around my chimney but were able to repair the problem right then. Their prices are reasonable and fair. Because they did the work right then they didn't even charge me for inspecting the chimney. Now I am safe with lighting a fire in my fireplace. Safety is a big factor with these guys, and is priority one for me as well. If you use Chimney Sweeps Inc. to service your fireplaces and chimneys you are making a great choice.

Chimney sweeps came out for me last week during the recent rains while it was poring to fix my chimney. My roof was leaking and they fixed it on the spot. I had neglected my chimney and due to heat, rain and general everyday wear was in desperate need of quick repairs. BRAVO Chimney Sweeps!

I received their $99 service. The guys were very professional, arrived on time, and did not try to sell me a service I did not need.

To whom it may concern;
I am very sorry that you received materials on your doorstop that violated you desire not to be solicited to. We outsource our flier distribution to another company so I will be contacting them immediately and reinforcing with them that they...

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, we rely on homeowners like yourself to let us know when an error has been made so we can get it corrected. Rest assured I will make sure it gets resolved.

Exceptional service, really made me and my husband feel safe and were very patient and courteous when explaining what they found to us. Plus the top and hat and tails really pleased us. We had a cleaning and a chimney cap all high quality and at reasonable price. We will use them again next year.

I was extremely impressed with how fast and efficient the cleaning was.

Review: Chimney Sweeps called me in december with a $99.00 special to sweep our chimney. They couldn't come out at that time but would come out on January 28 to sweep the chimney. They called to confirm their appointment. When they arrived they told my wife that besides sweeping our chimney that the chimney needed the adobe sealed and the top of the chimney needed to be sealed as well . Until this time Chimney Sweeps had only dealt with me. My wife approved the work to be done and the bill came to $2,200.00. She did ask if they could come back at another time and they said that it would be a whole month until they could come back and do the work, by the way we have all the material we need to fix it in the truck this created the immediacy to do the work now. I question whether this needed to be done as the house was built in 1967, and the chimney was not leaking. It only took them 2 hours to smear the goop all over the top of the chimney IN WHITE which does not match the adobe they sealed the adobe with a clear coat . There was no scope of work or written estimate given except verbal to my wife and of course the final bill. They also charged me for a heat reflector which I want to return unused.Desired Settlement: First I would like to return the heat reflector $329.00 Then I would like to reach some compromise on the work done, since I cannot return the sealer or the goop on the top go the chimney I would like to reimburse them for the cost of material, not the labor. My guess about the cost of the material to be about $600.00 plus the 99.00 quoted for a total of $699.00. This does not include roof damage for broken roof tiles. Both my wife and I feel terrible about what happened to us.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

Regards,

What I liked most about my experience is when they scheduled me for a sooner date,they gave me a $20 discount. Very professional.

I really liked this company. The quality of the service was excellent. And the prices were really affordable. I liked everything about my experience with them. They are worth the business and their services to do a great job.

They did a great job cleaning my chimney and they were very nice!

I am very grateful to chimney sweeps inc. Last week during the rains my roof leaked around my chimney into my home. I had neglected my chimney for many years thinking I only needed a sweep for cleaning. Boy, was I wrong! This is the only company I found to come over in rain. They repaired the mortar at the seam between roof and chimney and saved my home. The repair was under 200$ and very well done. They cleaned and inspected everything as well. Very professional and polite! Thanks Chimney Sweeps Inc. for a job much needed!

My chimney was in complete disrepair and they came out and completely restored it for a reasonable price.

They quoted me $3300 for a cap, crown, and waterproofing. They said there was "warping and cracking", the rebar was rusting, and the flue didn't close all the way. The "cleaning" was just running a shop vac around the floor.

I had another company (Chim Chiminey Sweep) come out for a second opinion. They said a cap is a good idea, but for $100, not $500. They said there was no warping or cracking, the rebar was fine, the flue was fine, and waterproofing was completely unnecessary.

I had not ever cleaned my chimney when the Chimney Sweep company called. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone was kind, and when they swept there was quite a bit of build up. I felt the price of $99 very reasonable. I would recommend having them service your chimney if it has been a while since it's done.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with chimney sweeps. They were prompt, courteous, friendly, and very professional. Their services were very affordable, and I would recommend them to everyone I know, who needs an inspection, cleaning, or repairs done to their chimneys. I also love the fact that they are family owned, and operated.

Review: My fireplace had a pair of doors. One of the glass panels broke in one of the doors. This rectangular piece of glass would surely have been reasonably inexpensive to replace.

The two representatives of Chimney Sweeps Inc who were here advised me that I didn't need the doors, so I should just throw them away.

This turns out to have been bad advice. I have now been without the use of this fireplace for over a year because using it fills the house with smoke.

They offer as an solution that they should install a smoke guard. This is because it would now be prohibitively expensive to fashion replacement doors.

I agreed that they should visit my house, inspect my chimneys and that they should discuss the cost of fitting a smoke guard, despite this having been necessitated by their bad advice in the first place.

They visited my house, but my wife was here and I was not. They charged us for the inspection, but didn't bother to discuss the smoke guard. So now it seems I need to have them come out *again* so they can discuss the smoke guard.

Too many instances of bad advice and failed promises.Desired Settlement: Over a year since their disastrous visit, I am unable to use my fireplace. I believe I could have replaced the glass that had broken in my fireplace for $10 or so. Chimney Sweeps Inc should make my fireplace serviceable for whatever replacing the glass in my fireplace doors would have cost — perhaps $50 or $100, including labor.

Response:

Dear Mr. [redacted];

I certainly am sorry that you felt the need to go through the Revdex.com to resolve this especially since we have been in touch several times by phone recently and I informed you that we were going to install the smoke guard at no additional cost to you. I'm sorry that the glass doors were thrown out unfortunately glass replacement is not something we have any expertise in and I have never heard of anyone replacing the glass pains themselves only replacing the entire glass door unit so I can not speak to whether it is possible or to what cost something of that nature would be.

At this point I can only say what I said when we talked a few days ago and that is that were addressing this smoking issue at no additional cost to you and I have high hopes that the smoke guard will resolve the issue. As every chimney is different in design and makeup sometimes unforeseen issues arise. It is true that the chimney was not designed to need glass doors and the fact that it started smoking when they were removed is an original design or construction malfunction not an error in judgment on our part. [redacted]ver we are taking responsibility for it and installing the smoke guard and no cost to you. I hope you are satisfied with the results, I can assure you we will do whatever is in our power to ensure you are.

Best Wishes,

Response:

I had contacted the Revdex.com after I organized for a representative of the company to inspect the chimney and propose a solution. The representative came, inspected the chimney, but proposed no solution (I was not here at the time; the representative spoke with my wife). Thus, it appeared that the business was ignoring my problem after telling me that they would fix it.

Since I submitted the complaint, the business has proposed what appears to be a satisfactory response. I consider the matter closed unless the solution proves unsatisfactory.
