Choice Design Builders

Review: I contracted with Choice Design Builders to build our custom home in [redacted]. This complaint is constrained to the defects in workmanship and work left not completed. Not even 60 days after closing, the paved driveway leading to our home has become compromised because the builder failed to provide for any drainage of the ground water. As a result, the ground water has undermined the gravel underlay and the pavement has begun to break away. After informing our builder, [redacted], and the other owner, [redacted], of this issue, they both refuse to fix the problem. There are also several items that the builder walked away from job without competing, including the masonry work on the exterior and interior of the home. I have several surfaces on the exterior of the home that remain unpainted and there is still large amounts of construction debris littering the property. I have been informed that my septic system has also become compromised due to the builder not providing a solid footing for the septic tank. If this were not enough, the builder has now demanded monies outside of our contracted amount. When [redacted] met me at the residence to discuss these issues, he became verbally abusive and physically threatening. He was asked to leave the property several times and refused. I had to call the Sheriffs office to get him to leave and then he called them and told them I assaulted him.Desired Settlement: Refund of the money that it will take to fix the property.

Responding to the complaint filed by [redacted]. We were contacted by [redacted] to bid and possibly build his home. We had come recommended by various people at his work that I have contracted before with. He was happy with his research on us and wanted us to build his home. After reviewing his plans I told [redacted] I wasn't able to build what he wanted for his budget. I recommended he go out and gather other bids. I even gave him a few names to call. After finding out that no one could build for that budget he modified his plans and increased his budget. He came back to me and asked if I could build for his new budget. I reviewed the new plans and budget and told him we could make that work. We brought it under contract and started to work.

To address the issues that [redacted] has filed a complaint about. He left me a message that he was having a erosion problem. I made arrangements to go up and look at his concerns. After getting up to the job site the first thing [redacted] said to me was what F--- are you going to do about this. I would have expected a hey thanks for coming up here to look at my concerns. I told him I was going to take a few pictures and get back with my lawyer. He continued to badger me with aggressive language etc. Finally I told him this conversation is over. I then asked him if he was going to pay for extras on his house that he refused to pay for. We ended up paying those additional costs that he requested. As far as the road situation that was the first I had heard of that. He never contacted [redacted] on the supposed problem. The septic tank was done properly and inspected as well as every thing else. The tank I suspect had some settling of the back fill not the tank itself. You don't compact along side of a septic tank for the possibility of cracking the tank. This was the first I heard of this as well.
