Columbus Handyman Reviews (37)

As owner of Columbus Handyman for almost 20  years I have not dealt with a customer like Mr [redacted].  We were contacted By Mr [redacted] in February not January  myself and Mr [redacted] who is insurance agent for Mr [redacted] was called by Mr [redacted] son who found the house was completely damage...

from a broken waterline in upstairs bathroom as we enter the home I was in shock on how much damage water had caused. we went over all the damage and took pictures, and I went back to office to work on contract for Mr [redacted] as the insurance was also involve in submitting numbers to get house back to the original state. Mr [redacted] was in china so this was very unusual to deal with we submitted a contract based on damages and dry out we got a ok via email to start work which we have documents to start work also Mr [redacted] did not sign contract but signed work authorization form we submitted and he gave us his credit card number to proceed which we never used. we started the process to get house dried out. in mean time insurance had submitted claim on what gets paid out. once Mr [redacted] RETURNED HE WANTED TO PLAY CONTRACTOR. would not let us do our job according to insurance claim. he was forced out of his room not by me but by the insurance adjusted who gave mr [redacted] almost 30 days to get house done what happen next was unbelievable. he didnt want to follow the claim and put back the same material that was taken out instead of replacing carpet with exact cost he bought most expensive brand from HOME DEPOT he had only a certain amount of funds for carpet he took three weeks to pick out cabinets therefor more time wasted. he would not let us install laminated flooring instead he hired another contractor to install very expensive hardwood flooring he couldn't understand how to allocate funds for each project so now he is running out of money and starting putting damage light fixtures that were wet from flood back into his house Mr [redacted] made him remove fixture as they were fire hazard. he ask several times to reinstall his damage appliances the were wet from the flood back into his house the insurance company gave him money to replace but he did not want to. as you can see he did not understand. we painted his house with the whitest paint he could find we used several coats to make him happy and one time he told our painters everything look great, we did a whole lot of extras and Mr [redacted] and myself spent countless hours that we never billed. trying to make this short there is so much that he would not want us to do that need done so he can save money. if he would have just followed the claim this would not happen his final balance to Columbus handyman is over $22.000 that does not include the extras he asked us to fix his roof and then his chimney based a major leak. we took thousand  of pictures and email s to show. we now have now no choice to seek legal action. thanks I will be in contact with Mr [redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
Regards,
[redacted] [redacted]

I am writing to ask that you re-open our complaint with Columbus Handyman. We are not satisfied with the response from the company. First, the owner, Mr. H[redacted] did come to our property to walk the grounds with us. This was only after we had initially contacted him back in November when we expressed our unhappiness, but he never came out. Mr. H[redacted] did not come out to our property until my husband called him back again to specifically ask him to come out to our home. Within the first 30 seconds of stepping into our yard, Mr. H[redacted] said that if this was his home, he would also be upset. He also did not walk the entire property, he stopped the walkthrough and said he had seen enough, so how would he know what the full extent of the issues are? He advised us, as he did in the response to the Revdex.com complaint, that he could see the issues with quality. We also found even more problems after he left. We made it very clear to Mr. H[redacted] that we were unhappy, and we were just having him over as a courtesy. We had already spoken to Mr. H[redacted] and his workers numerous times before this, discussing our unhappiness. Mr. H[redacted] said he was going to call us back in a couple of days to discuss if he could refund us our money, but after a couple days, my husband had to contact Mr. H[redacted]. He  originally said he would refund the money, then he went back on that and said because we filed a complaint he could no longer refund us anything until he spoke with his lawyer and/or Revdex.com representative. He did also say something about already spending the money on materials, but we never came to an agreement or understanding about what was to be done. We never told Mr. H[redacted] that we wanted them back on our property to continue the work, therefore I am not sure why he took it upon himself to purchase more material. Also, you can return any material that was not used, so I do not know how that is a part of his response to our complaint. Mr. H[redacted] also wrote in his response, "on Monday March 6th we showed up at Mr C[redacted] and would not let us take care of the issues". The lead carpenter, Leonard was confrontational and unprofessional with my husband on March 6th, therefore we requested Leonard to leave our property. My husband then contacted both Mr. H[redacted] and the PM Grant that he had to request Leonard to leave our property because of his unprofessionalism and confrontational demeanor.  Mr. H[redacted] knew, as we made it very clear, that we  were very uneasy about having people, who should have done the work correctly the first time, who had already come out and 'fixed' things, that are still finished inappropriately, to now come out again and do the work. It just does not make sense for us to have him come out to fix the mistakes that have been made on our property multiple times already. We feel uncomfortable with this suggested solution because we do not feel safe that the work will be done properly. Mr. H[redacted] also responds about us making payments and a final payment. We did make payments because that is what we were told to do. They called, asked for a payment, therefore we paid. We were not happy with the work to begin with, but we also thought more work to remedy the issues were still to be done. It was not until we were able to take a closer look at the work and quality of the work that we became even more unhappy (ie. boards falling off, nails sticking out of the fencing, the deck is literally falling apart, part of our 6ft. privacy fence is being held up by our neighbor's chain link fence, etc). We paid for the deck, fencing and door/window install, and gutters when we were asked to, therefore, we are not customers who were refusing to pay. We simply are requesting a refund because the work was done improperly and their solutions that they have offered are just not acceptable. They want to rip down and reuse the fencing we already have which is already compromised in quality, they want to use workers who have already shown that they are not willing to do quality work, the owner or PM want to 'supervise' the job again but where were they when we originally had issues with the work in November, and it just doesn't seem like good business. Mr. H[redacted] also states in his response, "keep in mind also this project started in winter and tho it has been mild the soil or landscaping has been muddy." If this is a professional company, which we specifically asked them about and were told it would not be a problem, then why would they not advise us to wait to build our fence so that our landscaping would not be completely destroyed? How are we supposed to know, that is why we hired a professional company, to advise us. Mr. H[redacted] ends his response with, "I cannot offer a full refund as the issues can be taken care of". If this is so, then is he saying, per our complaint, that he is willing to pay for another company to completely tear down, replace with brand new and rebuild, our deck and fence (as Mr. H[redacted] has said he would be willing to do to my husband), plus refund us for the [redacted] chainlink fencing that they scrapped (after we made it very clear that we wanted to keep the fencing), fix the bowed gutter, plus compensate us for the trash/concrete/sawzaw blades that they left in our yard that we and our neighbors had to clean up, and compensate us for our ruined landscaping? Mr. H[redacted] has been disrespectful and confrontational every time we have spoken with him on the phone. We have had this added stress to our lives for the last 4 months because of Columbus Handyman's unprofessionalism. We do not find it unreasonable to ask a company to refund us our money when they have had to come out to our property over 5 times and 6 different people working on the project, to attempt to fix things that were completed improperly, as well as everyone blaming someone else for the workmanship and customer service. It is also not unreasonable for us to not want them on our property. We are concerned that Mr. H[redacted] is stating that we said we were happy with the work when that is not true at all. We would never be happy with work that is clearly done improperly. He also states that we walked the job with his workers  and Project Manager. This also concerns us because if he, the owner could see all the problems within the first few seconds of stepping on our property, how could these other professionals not notice the improper installation of all that was completed? We also have proof of our communication with Mr. H[redacted] and his company which started back with complaints in November, as well as pictures of all the improperly installed materials. The pictures do not lie. At the very least, we have expected an apology. Mr. H[redacted]'s response to us has always been, "What good would an apology do anyways?" My husband's response to Mr. H[redacted] has always been, "but you've never tried."

I reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find the resolution is satisfactory to me.
Regards,
[redacted]

They have made the necessary repairs that I requested.

My complaint with Columbus Handyman, has been resolved.Mr. John H[redacted] owner of Columbus Handyman said that hemailed a check out to me on June 12, I never received it.I did go to his office on July 6, requesting my refund of$700.00 and he did issue me a check for that amount, afterwaiting three months.

I [redacted] have contacted the owner and explain to him my team had tried several times to start project, we were not able to connect with the tenents for several reasons. My self and the owner has agreed to a full refund. I tried several times to process his credit card payment to our old credit...

card company, which they told me that transaction was complete. I assume this transaction was refunded thru are new credit card company and in fact it did not happen, thereful I explain this problem to customer and he and I both agreed to send out check for his refund. To explain we changed credit card companies and the process was very difficult,to issue a refund to someone that paid there downpayment. Going forward I talked to Mr [redacted] on Thursday Jan 22nd and we both agreed that I would wire the funds or send out payment the last week in January. he will respond to Revdex.com when he receives payment in the next few days. thanks [redacted] Owner Columbus Handyman

MR. [redacted] no one has paid me I received around $14.000 to start your job your bill from or contract with us was around $48.000 you received from Columbus Handyman [redacted] insurance and your Agent has told us they paid you over $125.000 to cover your lost. the Revdex.com is not a court of law my attorney will be sending you and [redacted] insurance all pictures all emails all contracts, and all conversations we had this is a very long process. talk to you soon. John

Mr. [redacted] did not answer my question. He should explain how he could not to pay back customers money without doing that much work. What is the insurance explanation. How much the insurance pay me is not his business.

I have reviewed Mr. [redacted]’s response. He did not mention how much money he owed me. He didn't want to return my money. He always talked something irrelevant to the main subject   I followed the insurance estimate to pay him. He took the first start payment $14,821.72 and he  only worked $10638.40 worth job. All the works are finished. He should return me the rest $4183.32. I have asked him to pay back many many times and he never wants to return the rest of money.   I have given him 3 jobs to work on. 1. Cabinet installation 2. Painting house 3. Appliances installation. I paid him cabinet and appliances job right away. When I was paying him the last appliances payment , I asked him that he still have some started payment can be paid. He did not want to pay and told me that it will be a different account. I think he was planning not to return my money.   I did not owed him any money. I have no financial problems. I upgraded my carpet and my hardwood floor. I spent my own money to pay the extra. This is not his business and nothing to do with this case.

Thank you, John. I received the check for the balance owed [redacted].[redacted]

I as owner of Columbus Handyman met with Mrs [redacted] on Monday June 27th I went over her concerns and agreed together that we will paint her Bathroom at no charge. my lead carpenter on the Job will take care of. we have tried several times to make this project and customer concerns taken care. on Monday March 6th we showed up at Mr [redacted] and would not let us take care of the issues we had bought all the material at our expense to remedy there concerns. when they made there final payment on the contract I was told there was no issues and Mr [redacted] was happy. keep in mind also this project started in winter and tho it has been mild the soil or landscaping has been muddy. My decision is to credit or discount the job and let us finish the corrections which I will supervise. if Mr [redacted] is still not happy with the corrections then we need to adjust contract further. I cannot offer a full refund as the issues can be taken care of. thanks John H[redacted] Owner Columbus Handyman.
