Consolidated Concrete Reviews (%countItem)

Concrete provided by Consolidated for my driveway was defective and now my driveway is disintegrating.
In *** I contracted for a new driveway with ***. *** contracted with Consolidated to supply the concrete. This past winter the concrete began to disintegrate and now much of the driveway is cracked or disintegrating. My contractor *** has contacted Consolidated many times about replacing the concrete. He spoke to ***, who was the person he bought the concrete from at Consolidated. *** visited my property with *** and agreed the concrete was defective and needed to be replaced. Now, *** is no longer there, and I have contacted several executives at Consolidated (***, the President and *** the Operations Manager) but they will not take my calls or return calls. I need the concrete replaced immediately, as my home looks very bad and the driveway is an embarrassment.

Desired Outcome

I need the driveway replaced with quality concrete that will last many years.

After taking some time to review this complaint, we would like to make a few points of clarification. The concrete for this address was produced and delivered by *** not Consolidated Concrete. We believe it was done in *** - not ***. When the initial contact to us was made, we did not believe we had anything to do with this project. *** is a subsidiary of Consolidated and *** is still employed and manages that company. *** never visited the property and did not agree that is was defective. He further did not agree to replace it. *** did have a conversation with *** from Concrete Solutions about the driveway and what may have caused the issues.
There are numerous reasons as to why concrete might crack and/or disintegrate. From the description provided to ***, it sounded like salt or a similar de-icing chemical was used. Other important placement issues we do not know include the timeline in which control joints were made and how much water was added to the concrete on the job site. Did the contractor apply a cure and seal product after placement?
We do know *** ordered and used a concrete mix not ideal for exterior residential concrete. In climates such as ours it is recommended a mix be used with more cement and coarse aggregates in order to withstand numerous freeze/thaw cycles like we experienced this past winter.
All this being said we do understand that the home owner contracted to have his driveway replaced and ended up with a finished product that is very disappointing. We are receptive to visiting the property and giving our opinion on the cause of the issues. We would want all parties involved on site at that time - the property owner and contractor. Presuming salt and de-icers were not a contributing factor, as a gesture of goodwill we would be willing to provide replacement material (not labor). A cure and seal should be applied after replacement.
