Custom Remodelers custom ordered an egress window to be installed with an egress pit. There is no direction of swing indicated on any of the paperwork and was never spoken about at point of sale. Upon re-measure, our installer inquired about...

the direction of swing and noted it on his paperwork. The window came as instructed, matching the installers paperwork. There is no issue with the window or concern of safety with the window opening in either direction. The current window matches all paperwork. We are sorry for any inconvenience the customer may have experienced during the installation of their egress window project. If the customer would like their window to operate in the other direction, Custom Remodelers would be willing to order a new window for $450 and install it free of charge. Per the installer, he "inquired" about the swing of the egress window. The installer failed to note what we, the customers, have also expressed as a safety hazard when exiting the pit in the case of an emergency. The pit ladder currently exits directly in front of an overhang, which we specifically told the installer that because of this we wanted our ordered window to swing to the left instead as to avoid this overhang and exit to the neighborhood street. In case of an emergency, with the current swing of the window, this causes a time delay of exiting to a safe location. The installer AGREED to this concept and stated that he would be able to assist in this process. In addition to this, with time, we were able to further inspect the work of the installation and noticed that with framing of the window, the installer failed to apply caulking around the window as to prevent intrusion of water into the concrete foundation. Again, we request a settlement price of $500 for this error on Custom Remodelers part. And if not this, then to settle for 15% of our completed payment. Included is an image of the absence of caulking around the frame of the window. Also, an image of the overhang to which the ladder exits. In addition to this, the flashing of the window is not sloped as to allow any water to flow away from the siding of the house. Again, the most important issue here is the swing of the window leading to an unsafe exit out of the egress pit. We specifically told the installer this since he was the professional to complete the work and the one to complete the dimensions.

As per previous response, Custom Remodelers provided and installed egress window per contract. Caulking and flashing was re-inspected by a separate crew from Custom Remodelers. In addition, a final inspection was conducted by the City of Minneapolis finding flashing and caulking to be installed to industry standards and passed City inspection.
