DC Pro Moving And Storage Inc Reviews (43)

Dear [redacted],I'm sorry for any inconveniences DC Pro Movers may have caused you. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. Regarding the packing supplies- our emails clearly state which furniture pieces have to be wrapped and provide a packing supplies price list attached. If you...

thought our prices were expensive, you could have supplies your own materials. Also, the quality of the supplies we use are much better than Home Depot. Our main concern is to make sure that your belongings are very well protected. Regarding the moving time, it was icey and snowy outside and both locations had elevators and there was walking distance from the loading dock to the elevator and to your doors. Also, the protection and caution that we use towards your furniture (while wrapping them) takes a bit longer than other companies as well. I answered my phone as a locksmith because I work as a locksmith on the side and you called my personal cell phone. Also, sending out a moving truck full of someone's belongings vs a 4x4 SUV is very different. On the same day, I had many other people call me and request our last minute moving services because their moving company cancelled on them due to bad weather conditions. I refused those jobs and when you called and said you needed to move that day, I took a risk and sent out the truck. You mentioned that you weren't given an itemized list of the packing supplies used. If you want, I can send you the list of everything that was used. Additionally, I'd be happy to refund your card $50 to solve this matter. Again, I'm sorry for the frustration this move may have caused you. I wish you would have contacted us before going to [redacted]. I'm happy to solve this with you directly.

[redacted], I first want to apologize for missing your phone calls. We got super busy in the Spring time. Please understand it was not intentional and I definitely want to work with you on this. Your move was scheduled between 8:30-9:30. Unfortunately the truck broke down on its way to you and my...

workers were waiting on a technician to come to fix the truck. This is the cause for the delay that day. On our contract we have a section that says "DC Pro Movers reserves the right to reschedule pick up or delivery due to bad weather or unforeseen events". Unfortunately, we do sometimes have issues with our trucks but we do our best to fix them as quickly as possible. The movers arrived at 2 pm (late but not 8 hours late). We brought a large truck to make sure everything would fit. We have had 1 bedroom homes that weren't able to fit into the small trucks we have (15 ft). If this were the case then you would have had to pay for a 2nd trip with even more hours. Had you requested a small truck we would have come with that. But honestly, customers typically request a larger one. Regarding the traffic- we are happy to compensate you for traffic- 30 minutes ($39.50).Regarding the late arrival- we are happy to compensate you $20.Regarding the inconvenience of the whole situation- we are happy to compensate you another $30. This is a total discount of $89.50.Please take into consideration that due to the nature of our business, delays due occur. We do our best to be there one time but there are sometimes unforeseen events.Thank you,Avi

After going back and forth, this will be our final response to your complaint. As stated before, you agreed to pay in the beginning and then refused to pay the final amount at the end. Because of this, your belongings were unloaded into your garage, the fastest way possible (and to avoid you having to pay for additional storage and re-delivery). Regarding the treadmill, we've mentioned this a few times- it is not broken. It has to be assembled to operate. The movers did not assemble it because you refused to pay for the time. The contract states that it's an hourly rate, with no minimum. If you fail to pay the hourly rate for the time it takes them to re-assemble the furniture, it can't be re-assembled. Regarding the claim you filled up- you mentioned that the desk and table are missing screws. When our movers disassemble the furniture, the hardware is given to the customer until the movers are ready to assemble the furniture at the destination. Because you didn't pay for additional time, the movers were unable to re-assemble the furniture and therefore, never received the hardware back.We can either offer you $25 as a compensation or send one of our professionals to your home try to help reassemble some of the furniture and treadmill at $40/hr. Please note that if you move your belongings into your home, after we've put them into your garage, we cannot take responsibility for any damages. Thank you.

To acquire a claims form, please email us the request to [redacted] or any other email address you have of ours. We haven't received any emails from you requesting a claims form, which is why we haven't sent you anything. We'd be happy to send you the claims form! Also, you haven't confirmed if we can send you the bungy cord to the new address. Please let us know. Thank you.

This complaint must have been submitted by the customer a while ago because as of weeks ago, [redacted]'s move was completed, all of her items have been delivered, and she has not paid any amount towards her move.
Thank you,
DC Pro Movers

I emailed [redacted] back this evening telling him that our office was closed due to the [redacted] holiday. We set up the automated email incorrectly so he didn't get the email which says we're not in the office. I apologized for the inconvenience and asked [redacted] when he'd like to come pick up his...

Ariel called my phone last week and left a message regarding a move of hers. She also mentioned something about a worker named Josh. We never moved this woman and have no one in our company named Josh. After hearing her message I called her back and left her a message stating that she has the wrong...

company and that we never moved her. She then went to the Revdex.com to file a complaint about us. Please note that we never spoke to or provided services for this woman.Thank you.

 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: I will not settle for $50 -- unless you can provide a DETAILED account of what $253 paid for in supplies. In my 30+ moves it was the worst I've ever had and simply will not allow the company to slide by. In addition, I wish to continue to handle this through an intermediary. Again, the company needs to be held accountable for slow work, late arrival, and questionable expenses. $50 is not adequate.
Regards,
[redacted]

This is almost laughable.  DC Movers NEVER dispatched any workers to the house after we spoke, so the part to which the company claim its'workers were dispatched for the move' is completely false.  By the way, how can they claim at 8:30 AM that their big truck is broken, and then, within 20 minutes, called back to advise that they have an alternate truck to perform the move.  The question posed to Mr. A[redacted] is this, if you had an alternative, why did you not dispatch that to begin with, as opposed to call the client and ask if they are willing to accept a 14 ft truck for a 3 bedroom move, whereby, I am being charged on an hourly basis?  I do not see my way clear in this matter, whatsoever, and I expressed my sincere dissatisfaction to DC Movers.  A different moving company was paid an amount of $900 to have the move completed due to time constraint, therefore, I do not see a reason to pay DC Movers an amount of $250 for work which was never started to begin with.   And by the way, the contract which was signed also denoted that, DC Movers will be present with a 26 ft truck at a specific time which was never adhered to.  It also stated that (if client calls to cancel) on the day of the move, their initial deposit is forfeited.  No such event occurred in this case:  It was the provider (DC Movers) who initiated the call to state that they did not have the truck at hand nor could they meet the time line specified.  As such, the terms of the agreement was automatically nullified since they could not provide the service which I had paid.
The only solution to this is for the company to refund in totality, the amount of $250 which they have charged to my card.

My
husband and I contracted with DC Pro Movers to move from a 1-bedroom
apartment in DC to a house in [redacted] in the fall of 2013. When
the movers arrived, they said...

they truck they had brought was too small
to move our items. This should not have been an issue, as our estimate
stipulates we were moving a 1-bedroom apartment. The movers then called
the company to see if a larger truck could be sent, but it was already
being used. This resulted in the movers needing to make 2 trips between
our apartment in DC to our new home in Maryland. I reiterated to the
movers that the condo we were moving out of has strict rules of when you
can use the loading dock and freight elevator and that we had to be
finished with the move by 6 p.m. at the very latest. They said this
wouldn't be a problem. It was a problem. The movers were not moving
quickly at all, and my husband and I ended up helping them move items to
the truck (really defeating the entire purpose of hiring movers in the
first place).
Once we finally had the first round of items packed up, my husband and I
threw some other boxes in our cars to drive them out to the house to
aid in getting as much stuff out there in one trip as we could. As I am
pulling into the driveway of the house, the movers call to inform me
they are taking a lunch. I remind them that we need to be out of the
condo by 6 p.m. About 45 minutes later, they arrive with the truck.
Again, we help unload the truck because we are worried about time.
Finally, with about half of the truck unloaded the movers say there
should be enough room for the rest of our things. We head back to DC for
the final trip. Again, they continue to move slowly so we barely make
the cutoff time of 6 p.m. (Let me add the moving process began in the
morning.) Additionally, they were constantly wrapping items in bubble
wrap that didn't need to be--such as an easy chair or wooden dining room
chairs. We kept telling them to move things as they are--we don't need
any more packing help. If it's not wrapped, we chose not to and we will
assume the risks.
At the time, I didn't know why they were being so meticulous and wanting
to wrap all of our items. Well, when I was handed a bill I found out
why--they can charge us extra for "packing materials." Additionally,
they also took some of our boxes and combined them into larger
boxes--charging for those boxes as well. Unfortunately, we didn't notice
the extra boxing until days later when we were unpacking since we had
to do a fair share of moving our own boxes we couldn't supervise the
movers the entire time to stop this. I really find this to be a huge
issue because we did not agree to packing materials and I would have
said we didn't need any had we actually been asked.
It was about 8 p.m. by the time everything was unloaded from the truck.
My husband and I spoke with a manager at DC Pro Movers and he knocked
about $100 off our bill for the inconvenience of the truck size. But it
didn't help much. Our original estimate for the move was $316. I
expected that there would be some additional charges for time so we
assumed maybe $600 max. Our bill was over $1,000.
There is no transparency to the charges this business tries to put upon
consumers. For comparison's sake, my husband and I had professional
movers in 2012 move a 2-bedroom apartment in [redacted] to a 1-bedroom
apartment in DC and that was $1200. This move was only 9 miles away.
Please look elsewhere for movers. If the estimate seems low, do not be
sucked in. I didn't even have a Yelp account until today--and I made it
just to finally write this review to warn others. To whom it may concern,I apologize for any inconveniences that you feel DC Pro Movers has caused. I want to begin by saying that a one bedroom home (especially apartment) does not normally require a large truck. If you visit any moving truck website you will see that the recommended size truck for a 1 bedroom apartment is about a 10-14' truck. If you look at the document attached you will see a screen shot from the [redacted] company's rental truck website where they recommend a 10' for a one bedroom apartment. However, we sent [redacted] a 16' truck, which should be more than enough for a 1 bedroom house- 2 bedroom. If that wasn't enough and we didn't have a larger truck available, then making a second trip is our only option. The next size truck is a 24' truck- that's used for a 3-4 bedroom home. No moving company would send a 24' truck to a 1 bedroom apartment unless the customer felt like it was needed. Without [redacted] informing us we wouldn't have known that she has the amount of stuff to fill up a 24' truck. Had we known this information before, we would have sent you an estimate with 3 movers for 5-6 hours, with a 24' truck. I apologize if you felt that the movers didn't work as fast as they could have- I wish you would have called us about that on the day of the move. We would have spoken to the movers to ensure that they're working their fastest. Regarding lunch, they shouldn't bill you for that time but the movers do need to take a lunch break to eat- they're working non stop from the morning so they definitely need to eat something. You mentioned that the movers wrapped a lot of things. Please note that our contract clearly states what has to be wrapped for the move. We have a strict policy which is explained to every customer at the time of reserving. It even says in the middle of the estimate (where the prices are located) "Packing supplies not included (see below for details)". We can't include the supplies in the estimate because we don't know what supplies and how much you will need. We attach a packing supplies price list and allow you to purchase any supplies from another retailer prior to the move. Our main concern is that your belongings are very well taken care of.The main thing I want to stress and reiterate is that if you had the amount of stuff to fill up a a 24' moving truck then you don't have a standard 1 bedroom apartment. If you notice, the estimate says "The average duration for a move is as follows: One bedroom 3-5 hours". Your estimate was for 3 hours and 1 hour travel time- that's within the standard range for a 1 bedroom home. Had we known you had a large amount of stuff then we would have sent more men and quoted you more accurately. At the end of the move the movers gave you a discount of over $100. The best that we can do at this time would be to refund you an additional $100. The movers worked a long 11 hours that day- between the gas, labor, supplies and additional expenses, your move costs DC Pro Movers a lot more than expected as well. Please keep that in mind. Thank you,DC Pro Movers

I had to relocate my grandmother from her house to a very small apartment, a very nice lady name Luna was very helpful, understanding my needs and was able to advise me with a storage option until we figure out what to do with all the extra furniture that didn't fit inside.
The movers were on time and help us with the packing of the furiture as I didn't have the extra time to do it myself. I was looking at the movers while they were packing everything and can only say thank you as they took great care of every item as it was their own! I had to pay extra for the materials and packing but it was explained to me and it's understandable, I wanted to make sure that everything was protected as the furniture and belongings had great memories and are very important to my grandmother. If you want to make double sure, make it right the 1st time... better be safe then sorry and pay a little extra. There were no hidden charges and I was asked before they did anything to get my approval. Over all, a very pleasant move. It was extra important because of my elderly grandmother needs. Will hire them again and defiantly recommend! Great people that understand basic human needs and pay extra attention to details.

From: DC Pro Movers <[redacted]@dcpromovers.com>Date: Thu, Apr 23, 2015 at 10:28 AMSubject: Response to complaint #[redacted]To: [redacted] <[redacted]@myRevdex.com.org>First I'd like to apologize on behalf of DC Pro Movers for any inconveniences we may have caused you. On the...

day of the move, our large truck had some technical problems. Instead of cancelling your move, I called the customer to inform them that we would be sending them a smaller truck. They agreed to this. They then called me back saying that they didn't want a smaller truck and would like to cancel the services. I informed them multiple times that if a second trip is needed that they wouldn't be charged for that time. A few minutes later, I called the customer back to inform that they I would be able to rent a large truck but because the movers were already on their way (per their initial request and agreement on), there would be a small delay. The customer decided to cancel the move anyhow. The customer was informed of the cancellation fee by email (which they signed) and again over the phone when they confirmed that they didn't want the services anymore. At this time, I'd be happy to credit the account $40 but this is the best I can do. I still have to pay my workers who went on on the job, per their request.Thank you.

Review: I contacted this company to do my move and they gave me a quote for 5hours plus one hour of travel time to move my 2 br apartment to a new house. When they got to my place their workers told me that the estimate was totally wrong and gave me another estimate that is more than 2x of the original amount. On the phone [redacted] a rep from this said company made the estimate ,also informed us that we are allowed to pack our own things and furniture. When the movers arrived at my place no ID did not even introduce themeselves and rudely told me they had to redo the packing or they can't move them and that they have to charged me for the packing supplies. The lead person was extremely unprofessional and rude and states that if I would not agree I can just pay for their travel time and cancellation fee totaling 220USD without any work done. I agreed to just use them anyway for I don't want to waste my money and selected stuff that I wanted to be moved. They took all the lightweight furnitures and boxes which included my lightweight couch and left my dresser and chest drawer which I told then I wanted to be moved first and their supervisor said no problem. They took their time 3 men to move , one person did all the chatting, taking breaks all the time so there was only 2 person that was just doing the job , took 2 hours moving my stuff, 10 boxes and a set of couch and when I asked how about my dresser they told me I have to hire them again if I wanted to because it will not fit on their truck which y the way was not true because I saw the truck and it was half full which I think they are very guilty with and tried to cover up by just having the door half open. Left all my furnitures upside down on my new place. Charged me and wanted me to pay even before the job was completed. Threatened to charged me 3% more if I will pay by card instead of cash. Took back all the packing supplies after they unpacked my furnituresDesired Settlement: Since they did not fullfill whay they promised and provided me with a very poor service , I am requesting money backeeven half of the amount of the 357 USD .

itures and left us with all the heavy furnitures and told us , Oh those would not fit anymore we had to do another trip and it will incure additional charges plus another travel time". to me this is a total dishonesty to customer and having paid this much for a very poor and short service is ridiculously overpriced.

Original estimate 5 hours and 1 hr travel time= 390, when the movers came me another estimate of USD 1300

Response:

[redacted],

Firstly, I'd like to apologize for the inconvenience

that we may have caused you. According to the information you provided

us on the phone, we gave you an estimate of 5 hours and 1 hour of travel time, which is standard for a 2 bedroom apartment. When we arrived at your home, your move was much larger than expected. The foreman onsite called the office and informed us that you had many things and he estimated the total move to be about $1,200- $1,300. He made sure to inform you of his estimated cost to ensure that you were aware of what the total would be. Your total came out to $357. The expenses (truck, gas, mileage, workers, etc) to send the movers out to your home and move the items that you requested cost about $300, not including any overhead charges.

For the inconveniences, we would be happy to compensate you $25. We're hoping that this will help you understand that we're trying to do our best and be honest with our customers about the total move price.

Thank you,

Review: I signed a contract that was half of what the charge ended up to be at the end of my move. Yes the contract stated that the moving company had additional charges when it came to packing but what the company does is wrap everything you own twice over wasting so much product and charging you for it. My contract price for my 1 bedroom move was $538.00 . I ended up having to pay $1150.00. the difference between the two prices was for packing material....$492.00 for wrapping things and items that didn't need to be wrapped. I did not stand over the movers to watch every little thing that they did and I wish I would have, but when I was unpacking I had boxes inside boxes and wrapping that was ridiculous.. I would not recommend this business to my worst enemy.Desired Settlement: My wrapping fee was $492.00, I would like half of that returned, due to there waste of product and not my items needing the packing.

On behalf of DC Pro Movers, I would like to apologize

again for any inconveniences we have caused. Before you contacted the

Revdex.com we were corresponding about your move via email.

In the last email I sent, I offered you a compensation check of $75. We

understand your frustration and we'd like you to understand where we're

coming from- you had a lot of items that needed special wrappings.

Things that were clearly stated in the email and contract that you

signed. The movers use the amount of packing supplies that they felt were necessary to ensure the protection of your belongings. The most

that we can do for you is to refund you $100...the profit that we have made from the packing supplies.

Thank you,

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response. If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Regards,

Review: First, Dc Pro Movers movers ([redacted] and one other) were 3 hours and 51 minutes late to the appointment I booked, which caused them to miss the allotted time for the loading dock at the address I was moving from. I booked the loading dock from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM in accordance with the building’s three hour time policy. Due to this, DC Pro Movers was unable to use the elevator at their convenience and it took their employees extra time to load their truck on the street.

Second, the DC Pro Movers contract suggested that the average duration to move a one bedroom apartment is 3 to 5 hours. The DC Pro Movers took 7 hours to complete the task despite the fact that I moved my entire kitchen and most of my smaller items myself. Further, the final moving location was only 2 blocks away from the original destination, less than a 5 minute drive. I specifically pointed out the items they were to move, which did not include pillows, clothes, and laundry. The ignored that request.

Third, Relocation Consultant [redacted] stated in an email that it is perfectly acceptable to leave clothing in dressers during a move. The movers boxed up my clothes despite my instructions not to (It is very easy to move clothing two blocks with a trash bag) at an exorbitant fee.

Fourth, the moving team did not inform me of the contract fee increases prior to moving my things. The original contract was for $292. According to the contract, “If any additional time is required to complete your move or additional services are needed, an addendum to the bill of lading will be issued on the day of your move with the revised charges. The total move price will not exceed 10,000 dollars.” Clearly, had I been informed the entire cost of the move would total $1,300, over $1,000 more than the original estimate, I would have told the DC Pro Movers team to stop working immediately. I don’t believe any reasonable person would ever agree to such an expensive deal to move their belongings two blocks.

Fifth, during a phone conversation with Avi, the boss, on January 6th at 1:40 PM, he suggested he would agree to lower my bill to $950 only if I agreed not to contact the Revdex.com about his improper business practices. This was a direct threat to me and should not be tolerated by any customer of an accredited business.

I offered to divide the bill in half to $650, an amount that is more than double the original estimate, but DC Pro Movers declined. I have since disputed the charges with my bank.Desired Settlement: I want DC Pro Movers to split their bill with me and refund me $650. This is reasonable considering their contract was $1000 higher than they originally estimated.

Response:

[redacted],I want to apologize on behalf of DC Pro Movers for any inconveniences the move may have caused you. We were in contact with you, try working with you to compensate you for your negative experience. We offered you a discount larger than 25%. Your move took 7 hours and the workers worked hard the entire time. Unfortunately, the movers are delayed sometimes. Every customer is informed prior to the move that "DC PRO MOVERS reserves the right to reschedule pick-up or delivery date due to bad weather or unforeseen events." Unfortunately, there were some unforeseen events that took place that day but we made sure to move you as promised. Again, because of the delay, and not being able to use the elevator, we offered you a 25%+ discount. DC Pro Movers did not threaten you in any way. In fact, we tried very hard to work with you. When we offered you the discount, you countered saying "If $900 is the best you can do, I will accept that charge. However, I

plan on sharing my awful experience with DC Pro Movers with the RevDex.com, [redacted], [redacted], [redacted] and all of my

colleagues and friends in Washington, D.C." Because of this, we didn't feel that you wanted to work with our company to come solve the issue. Our final offer is a discount of $50. Unfortunately, there is not more we can do at this point.Thank you,[redacted]

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: $125 off a $1,300 charge is absurd. Again, your company initially quoted me at $292, then turned around and charged me $1,300 without telling me about the $1,000 increase. I agreed to split the bill down the middle to $675 (still more than double the original estimate) but was rejected. I don't know how many times I can make the point that no reasonable human being would agree to pay $1,300 to move a one bedroom apartment two blocks. I am still in the process of disputing the charge with my bank and have been in contact with local media.

Review: I contracted with DC Pro Movers for 4 hours of service, which included 1 hour of travel time plus additional fees (fuel surcharge, etc). The total estimate was 354.75 with my living social coupon. I only needed my furniture moved to my new apartment 2 blocks away. My apartment is a 2 bedroom and I asked for less that 20 pieces of furniture to be moved plus any heavy boxes. The estimated hours on their website for a 2 bedroom apartment is 4-6 hours for a full service move. Since I required little to no packing services, 4 hours was the minimum charge. Luna was my moving specialist. The movers arrived at 3:20 pm, I had asked for a 2:00 - 3:00 pm arrival time because of the freight elevator reservation. Two movers showed up with a 10' truck. [redacted], one of the movers, looked at my furniture and complained that customers "do not tell the truth" and that that company told him that it was a furniture move and more people, bigger truck, and lots of other stuff was needed. He argued in his native language to his supervisor while less than 3 feet from me. While I did not know what was being said, it was clear that [redacted] was very upset with this job. [redacted] would not elaborate on what type of move he was told, but I told him that I wanted the furniture out. I complained to the supervisor, [redacted], and was told that DC Pro Movers would move my furniture to my new apartment and if they had room, the heavy boxes would be included. He also offered to have someone come out to help with the remaining boxes on Saturday (or after, sometimes he said “Sunday” instead of “Saturday”). I told him I just wanted the furniture moved, plus any heavy boxes as per my quote. During my conversation with [redacted], I learned that [redacted] was person on the phone that [redacted] was complaining to earlier. [redacted] told me that he would have [redacted] apologize to me for complaing and accusing me of not telling the truth. [redacted] also instructed me not to talk to [redacted] and that we ([redacted] and I) would talk on Sunday. I found out later that he was unavailable until Sunday because of Sabbath. It took [redacted] and his helper 6 hours to move less than 20 pieces of furniture from my apartment on the 8th floor to the loading dock using the freight elevator. We drove the 2 blocks to my new apartment and they began to unload my items. I bought them pizza and soda. At 10:51, [redacted] proceeded to tell me that I now have to pay $1092.47 in moving charges for a move of less than 20 pieces of furniture and 3 boxes, which included nearly a $256 charge for packing materials. We were going 2 blocks! They did the move in one trip. I told him that I was to talk to [redacted] and that I was not signing anything without speaking to [redacted] first. He explained [redacted] could not be contacted due to the Sabbath and if I did not pay, they would hold the rest of my furniture on the truck. DC Pro Movers had my dining table top (the legs to the table were in my new apartment), queen platform bed headboard and box spring (the mattress and bedframe was in my new apartment) and sofa sleeper. I offered to pay the price I was quoted, $354.75, but [redacted] said he could not accept this money. I had a copy of the quote on my cell phone. I called the Arlington county police. The police arrived and told us both it was a civil matter. [redacted] left with my items still in his truck. He said he would drive around with it until he received $1092.47.Desired Settlement: I would like for them to honor the price that was quoted $354.75 and have my items delivered immediately. In addition, if I need to take a day off work for this to occur, I do expect them to compensate my salary for the day. They wasted my entire day and I was unable to complete the rest of my packing due to them taking 8 hours to move less than 20 pieces of furniture.

Response:

This complaint must have been submitted by the customer a while ago because as of weeks ago, [redacted]'s move was completed, all of her items have been delivered, and she has not paid any amount towards her move.

Thank you,
