DryLux Reviews (22)

Review: On Saturday October 18th, 2014, we noticed our water heater in the garage leaking and water pooling on the floor. Our Home Warranty company issued the hot water heater repair to a plumber from [redacted] ([redacted], **) who arrived the following day (Sunday) to diagnose the situation. The plumber concluded the water heater needed replacement, which he would complete the following day (Monday) but also tested the drywall around the water heater for moisture content and recommended Drylux Restoration for dryout and mold prevention. The test showed moisture across an approximate 8 ft length of drywall, approximately 1 1/2 ft up the wall. Desperate to avoid any potential for mold, we agreed and the plumber contacted Drylux. Drylux arrived quickly the same afternoon (3 guys), who stripped away the baseboards and began setting up FIVE industrial air blowers and two large industrial de-humidifiers in our garage and in the pantry on the other side of the wall from the water heater. The amount of equipment definitely appeared excessive for an 8ft section of wall. After setting up the equipment, we asked for an estimate of costs and the rep was unable to provide an estimate but would have the office contact us the following day. That should have been our warning. The three guys were there for maybe an hour to an hour and a half. The next day we were never contacted by the office so we called to get the estimate of costs but the office rep was unable to provide because "the guys have not brought the paperwork in". We were never contacted by the office on Monday and on Tuesday, two techs from Drylux came back to the house to check the status of the dryout. It took them less than 5 minutes to conclude there was 25% moisture remaining and the equipment would have to run for another day (some of the fans did not seem like they were pointed in the most efficient direction). Before the two left I asked them if they could provide any sort of cost estimate for the dryout since we were unable to get a direct response from the office rep, and they pretty much smirked when they said "oh, its going to be a lot more than $2,500". I immediately called the office to demand a summary of charges but they were still unable to provide - so I told them to come back and remove all of their equipment immediately. Drylux sent one tech over at 5:00 pm on Tuesday to remove the equipment and we received the summary of charges by email from the office rep at the same time. The total bill for the dryout was $2,242.55 which included 9 HOURS OF LABOR (?!) totaling $673, a service fee just to show up of $285, a haul away fee for debris of $101 (there was just a few strips of baseboard they removed), $80 to apply the microbial agent and $930 for the fans/humidifiers for TWO DAYS. Had Drylux communicated the fee structure up front we would have never agreed to allow them to come into our home. We feel their practices are predatory, excessive and designed to maximize a claim against one's homeowner's insurance. We were completely misled by a company we were entrusting to assist us with an issue that had health implications (mold potential). We have a relative with stage four cancer living in the house so we needed the work completed quickly.

Response:

Drylus, LLC attempted to resolve the existing complaint via email to the customer on 10/22/14 at this point we have response back in forth by email with each other trying to resolve this issue, and have resolved it with the customer at this time. Drylux picked up equipment early as customer requested. Drylux is only charging for the days on the job not the 4days to complete the work. Drylux is only seeking the remaining balance be paid by the customer of what they agreed on for the amount of $1,100.00 with Drylux. At this time Drylux is willing to close this account out with customer as stated in the email they sent us, to remove from [redacted]. At Drylux we pride ourselves in providing the utmost care to all of our Drylux customers. We do our best to be fair to our customers and accommodate, within reason, any way we can.

Complete Scam Artists!!!! Our hot water tank leaked and the plumber recommended Drylux to repair the supposedly "water damage" it had caused. He called Drylux and they were here within 30 minutes ripping out baseboards and telling me there was $3000 to $4000 water damage. They said to get in touch with my insurance company right away to get a claim number. When I called my insurance company, they said that quote was extremely high (the plumber was probably getting a kickback) and that they had a company they used and would send them right out. When I told the Drylux crew that, they proceeded to lecture me about how great they were and that they would waive my $1000 deductible. They finally left after I talked to their manager on the phone. When the company my insurance called came, their digital moisture meter could not detect any moisture in the walls or any of the baseboards that had been ripped out.
