Elder 1 Contracting Reviews (24)

On May 18, 2017, customer signed a contract for roof only in the amount of $5,This contract dated May 18, 2017, and job performed were the result of an insurance claim In an attempt to help with the financial burden, we found and reported additional damage to the insurance company As a result, we got a small amount of money added to claim, through additional items not covered originally and not done as part of our roof only contractThis, if not for the rotted wood, would have ensured no money out of pocket to customer, as was told to customer from beginning Unfortunately, due to this rotten wood, the remaining balance is $1,Our contracts have a highlighted red line, just above the total which reads verbatim, “ [redacted] To install new wood or decking is an additional charge of $per linear foot for 1-inch solid decking or $per 4ft x 8ft plywood sheet above the stated price.” Nowhere on this contract dated May 18, is there any statement showing that no decking is needed, which is attached to prove Also, nowhere on this contract does it state Elder to do deck service (stain) or any siding Unfortunately, when working in any home improvement field, there can be circumstances that are outside of both our control and a homeowners’ This is why we have conditions spelled out on our contract for unfortunate changes should they arise, which includes the decking on the roof The red line on our contract wholly exists on our contract because we have to tear the roof off to expose bare decking for proper installation, and we cannot always predict if there will be bad wood that requires replacementOn Friday, July 28, 2017, we attempted to self-resolve this situation with the customer to the best of our ability by showing on paper the very specifics and explain the process by which this job proceeded Unfortunately, we were not able to reach resolution, despite approximately hours of conversation and relatively plain explanationAs always, we at Elder will follow any resolution as determined by the Revdex.com as the appropriate action And we look forward to successful resolution of this situation

To Whom it May Concern,
The homeowner was explained before we started that the brick chimney would have to be tuck pointed to insure a water tight sealThis was never doneThere are pictures of the old roof that the insurance company
has, that shows that there was no pipe coming through the roofThe homeowner has not informed anyone in our office about gaps in a windowThis is the first we have heard about itThe windows were installed around June of We stand behind our warranties, but it can not extend past the original contract scope of workAnything extra the e homeowner's will need to pay extra
The total of our contract was $9865.95, it included a new roof, new siding around the back porch, two new vinyl windows, three sets of vinyl shutters, new downspouts in the rear of the home, and some interior patch workWe refunded the customer $for interior work, that we could not get scheduled with them
If the Revdex.com feels that any work is "shotty", we will repair, or replace as needed
Thank you,

We just had our roof replace by Elder Contracting and I cannot begin to tell how happy we were with the companyThey did a great job, the workers were very pleasant, the staff at Elder were extremely helpful and considerate It was refreshing to work with such a great organization you did such a great jobI HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM

11/20/2017 Hello! I received your message
During the day, email is best way to reach me for the fastest response
But when I can step away from the office I can try to make a phone call
Tomorrow I have an early day so I can reach out to you tomorrow via phone or I can answer any questions through email!Thank you,*** *** [email reply by consumer to mediator's request for certain documents]Sounds great to meI have copies of it allAnd I have attached them to
this email! I will try to reach out to you first around 12:50-1pm.[mediator put invoice in Librarytext messages discussing insurance problem, sent her by employee ***, in body of her email]I can also try to go through my emails between the
office women I spoke withThere are multiple instances I asked about
other jobs being completed with the total amount of my insurance claim
(Being this is what *** personally told me) I get
what they have on me is the signed contractBut that contract
explained to me by *** was including everything we spoke about(roof,
siding, extra material for fireplace, and restainjng deck) Not to
mention there were multiple times the night they just showed up at my
house that *** told *** to shut his mouth because he was going to say
something but *** didn’t want him tooAnd *** looked at my decking
and walked on my roof day of quoting me and said my decking was fine
Didn’t need to be replaced but there was the one spot on my roof(reason
why I did an insurance claim) that needed beams(not sure of exact term)
because it was bowing.11/30/17@7:p.m[email from consumer] I’m sorry! It has been worked mixed with me being admitted to the hospitalIf I get out tomorrow I will try to call youI will even set a reminder if I can get out of the hospital to call you12/04/What started this off with the roof was a spot on my living room ceiling that appeared to be from the roof leakingMy insurance company sent someone out who said it was probably hail damage*** from Elder came out and said might need entire roof replacedHe said there was hail damage also done to my deck and siding and maybe we could get those paid for in addition to the roof (but call it all roof damage)He was on the phone to *** about what they could and could not doI He said the roof decking was o.k.; that roof was a little weak where leak was, but, did not need to replace decking (decking explained to me to be 1"x10s or so - think they only did this on 1/of roof)I signed the Proposal which was supposed to cover everything (roof, stain my deck, siding)I was on vacation when they did this and was home the whole timeNo one ever told me decking was needed nor did anyone mention there would be extra cost until I got the billWell, I'm not sure if I signed a Release with my insurance company over this claim and what they paid to ElderO.K, I'll take your suggestion since *** said my deck needing to be restained and siding problem was hail damage, to see if my insurance company will cover those two things (agree it's a long shot, but, I'll look into it)Let me know what Elder has to say - I'd be happy just to have them write-off their bill for the extra $Still find it funny I was told no decking needed yet the invoice from the same day I signed the Proposal already had decking included.12/06/2017 [mediator left VM and email with consumer that had spoken with business owner and they will not compromise and take less; and that Revdex.com will close complaint]What does this mean? So there’s nothing to do on my end to basically resolve this issue and not pay? Considering it is there employees fault?

Response to complaint [redacted]

12/06/2017   Why is this complaint being considered. I was told months ago Revdex.com was not going to do anything with this. I pay $2400.00 per year to the Revdex.com and have a good record. The contract pretty much states what was to happen. There is no mention in there about this other stuff being fixed. Who else can I talk to at the Revdex.com about this [mediator advised be glad to let him speak to my two supervisors, but, one not at her desk and the other on the phone]. Why don't you come out and meet the two of us at the site? What do you mean Revdex.com mediation does not do that - this has been done in the past. What's going on with this; we replied in July; when did you talk with her [Mediator had two days ago]. I will not take less than what she owes us.

To Whom it Concerns:
We have talked with the above homeowner several times. He has paid $2500.00 of a $7348.00 contract. The homeowner states that the insurance company must pay his deductible 2647.09. This constitutes Insurance...

fraud. We will most likely be seeking legal advise. Thank you,

I disagree with Elder 1's response. As I mentioned earlier, as per contract, Elder 1 should install Drip Edge/ Ice & Water Shield along with roof. Since Elder 1 have not completed this job, insurance company is withholding this payment. Elder 1 also wrongfully claimed to my insurance company that they have completed Drip Edge/ Ice & Water Shield installed to my roof.

I just wanted to clarify that I could care less about what was promised to me, I care that they take ownership for the prices and conversation by their employee. It's very clear that something was said to me about a price and on paper and now after the job is complete it's a problem. I don't care...

about the other things not getting done, but I won't be held responsible for an extra $1100 that is not my fault. Not to mention, I want it very known, and something done about those two guys showing up at my house unannounced and uninvited Friday night and the insulting comments and messages I received.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:   The response is not entirely accurate regarding the lack of communication and delay in resolution.  The owner Terry Elder called my husband after we filed this complaint and was terribly...

rude, offensive, used profanity and called my husband names.  My husband called the Revdex.com with the case number to have the unprofessional call be recorded for this file.  The response to your complaint was not professionally handled by the business owner of this company and we are appalled by the call received from Terry Elder.   We have finally settled the bill with the salesman and paid the balance in full.  I NEVER want to hear from Terry Elder again.  His call to my husband was borderline harassment and offered NO resolution to the problem.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

The home-owner was told that the skylight needed to be replaced. He signed a second contract for $900.00 on 9/17/15. The leak that the home-owner is referring to, came through the seals of the original skylight. We have pictures that...

show that the skylight had been repaired several times in the past. If the home-owner felt that we were responsible for his ceiling, then why wasn't that resolved, before signing a second contract? We still have an open balance of $4,374.79 that needs to be paid. We look forward to the Revdex.com helping to resolve this situation.

Would like to say thank you to Elder 1 Contracting for the great job they did on our home. Kyle came to our home for an estimate on three windows and Elder's estimate was $263.00 less than one of their competitors. What a big savings! We also needed a new roof due to storm damage. I was so grateful to Terry, owner, for being here to meet our insurance adjuster. His input was a great help for us to get the most for our insurance estimate. Our roofers did an outstanding job getting our roof put on in one day! All mess cleaned up quickly. Great job Elder 1!!!

[redacted] mentioned bringing in the dirt, however it would not have even been needed if the foundation had been back-filled properly. When you dig a hole then add concrete, you have extra dirt. This is something a contractor should know. Had [redacted] sent his guys over with proper equipment to back fill; this extra dirt could have been brought around to the front to back-fill around the new driveway and sidewalk. Ask ANY contractor and they will say that back filling is part of the job. Elder 1 sent over 2 guys with shovels and rakes to do this job. This is after the secretary told me they'd be there bright and early with a loader. They did NOT complete the back fill around the new sidewalk and driveway we did this ourselves. They did NOT even try to fix all the ruts in the yard left by their equipment. The loader showed up late in the day to load the pile of rock that Elder 1 left and move the cut tree.
I have emails that I sent to the office which clearly mention the doors and the dirt, these are not new complaints. I started sending emails because [redacted] does not answer the phone or return phone calls. And when messages were left at the office, he somehow didn't get them. I have a voice mail that [redacted] left less than 24 hours after Elder1 decided they were finished. He threatened me with a lawsuit if I didn't pay him by the next day. As far as the extra drywall, I am not sure what they are referring to. They put up 2 more sheets to finish a wall, which they were happy with leaving unfinished. Insulated doors? I never asked for insulated doors. What good are insulated doors without an insulated garage? The only "punch" lists I gave were in the emails. These are things that should have been fixed without me even saying anything.

I am rejecting this response because: First thing is first, how dare this business allow someone to just show up at my house un-announced. Two weeks prior to them just showing up at my house on July 28th, there was 1phone call and 1text that was received by [redacted]. Which I was on vacation so that is why I did not respond. No other attempt was made, than they just show up at my house. They are lucky I did not have my children home at the time, that would be a whole other issue. Do they know that extortion is illegal? Not only after that, I received very rude, insulting text messages later that evening and phone call. his 2 hour conversation that I had Friday night with them solved nothing. [redacted] was not understanding what I was telling him [redacted] verbally told me and what I understood the whole time. Not to mention, they told me "there is no way to tell the decking is bad until we get the shingles off" which is untrue...proof being, the contract was signed on May 18th(supposably not knowing the decking needed to be done) but however, funny that the invoice for the decking was typed up on May 18th!!!! So if you "had no idea the decking was bad" why the heck would you already order the material for it prior to the job starting???? And there is barely any decking on my roof...maybe 1/4 of the roof has it done and your trying to tell me it's over $1000? There are multiple things wrong with this job. My intention of my complaint is not that Im mad jobs were promised for a certain amount verbally, but that your telling me I owe more money for just one job being completed. Two of my family members got their roof done through Elder1 and their contracts and pricing is totally different. (shingles, labor, whatever, not the total job)There was multiple inappropriate things that were said Friday night, I have two other witnesses to prove it. And my response is that [redacted] came to my house, seeing I was alone and either 1 doesn't know how to do his job or 2. take advantage of me because I had no idea what to do with this being my first time with anything like this. He told me items would get completed, which did not, I have emails to office lady asking about them even. So after Elder1 contacted my insurance company to get the additional funds for the job, which is a little over almost $5900.... and this is where [redacted] either doesn't know how to do his job or [redacted] me over. Because the total amount on the contract is verbally what he told me I was signing for EVERYTHING to be completed. Not just the roof. If I didn't think any other job wasn't getting completed I wouldn't have sent an email asking when they would get done. Im not sure how any of this works, so I thought I could trust them and know that they know what their doing. But apparently not. I do not feel that I owe this money for a job that from the get go was a rip off and that $5900 is plenty of money to get a roof done and 1/4 of decking completed. And now especially how Friday night went....they are out of their mind if they think I want ANYTHING further to do with them other than to get this bill squashed and not have to owe this $1100 they seem to think I owe. I will be letting every one know about my experience here and the inappropriate behavior I received.
Sincerely,
[redacted]
