Elm Heating and Cooling has always been a great company to work with in the past Mike R came to our house in June after my husband called about our AC not working on our unit for the upstairs He did the job well and troubleshooted the problem He was late for the appointment, he did not introduce himself at the door, and, overall, was not really telling me anything about what was wrong with our AC I asked him to speak with my husband over the phone to let him know what he found out and seemed put off by this It would seem to be in the best interest of the company to make sure the technicians were not so rude when making calls to a customer's house

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 10, 2015/05/19) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
We have been doing business with Elm for more than years and been by and large satisfied, hence our disappointment at the recent incident
We accept Elm's explanation and apologyMeanwhile we had engaged a different company to resolve the a/c issue
Elm's proposal not to charge for the service call is likewise acceptable

Jeff C was the technician who serviced my heating systemHe called to ask if he could arrive early which helped me schedule my dayHe was efficient and very well organizedHe explained the need for repairs which seemed appropriate; he completed the work and offered advice on how to get better efficiency from my furnaceHe also cleaned the furnace area after he completed his workI was very pleased with the tech and service he provided

Jeff informative and efficient

Our furnace would not run on for the first time this season Jeff came out and was very thorough with his inspection....found a bird's nest near the top of the chimney had been blocking the vent
Many thanks,

***, our technician, was courteous, professional and friendly He explained each step of
his job and his answers to our questions or concerns were clear and concise

I was pleased with the service callThe techexplained the service options and did the repairs in a timely and professional manner

Tony Cwas very helpful He was professional and he took the extra time to locate the source of my problem after he determined my exact issue I appreciated his help

James and Javier exceeded all expectations on a furnace installation - on time, courteous, professional, pleasant, great clean work, etc - the whole yards!

Jeff Ccame to replace a faulty thermostat and inspect and clean the furnaceHe also replaced the humidifier padHe was careful to explain in advance what he would be doing and how much it would cost, and when asked he instructed me in how I could replace the humidifier pad myself in the futureHe showed me how to program the new thermostatHe was courteous and answered all my questions

Pietro was very professional when he came to my house to fix my blower motor. I was very impressed and would request him again.

We have been using Elm to service our furnace and air-conditioner for years and years and have been happy with their service. Jeff C. was EXTREMELY thorough, checking things I don't remember being checked by other servicemen in the past. He warned us we should change a pipe union but on closer inspection found that it was just loose. He could have changed the part and charged us for it, He suggested changing pipes in the near future and checking to see if the connection behind the gas dryer was made of the right material.
I feel bad that he hit his head on the low doorway to our laundry room, where our HVAC unit is located. I've done the same thing and I remember how painful it is!

Elm Heating is a great company! From the operator to the service person, they are all very efficient and helpful.

I'm so happy that I was referred to this company by a friend. Elm Heating & Cooling were very friendly on the phone and they came out the same day that I called. Tony came to my house and he was able to find the problem right away. He was respectful, very professional and answered all of my questions. He even explained what problem was and how he was going to repair it. I can tell he was experienced and knowledgeable of his work. I would definitely recommend Elm Heating & Cooling.

Very satisfied customer!!

Excellent, prompt service on A/C unit. Explanation of repairs needed, with accurate cost estimates.

This is a copy of the letter that I sent to Elm Heating. It explains my reason for dissatisfaction.

Dear Elm Heating,
I am not ordinarily a letter writer but I am so aggravated over my recent service call from your company that I have to send this letter.
I had a service appointment for yesterday, the 18th, for a furnace cleaning and tune up. When I made the appointment, it was scheduled for 8AM. I assumed, shame on me, that meant I would be the first appointment. About 8:40 when no one was here yet, I called and was told that the tech was on another job and would be there shortly. At about 9:15 I get a call that he is on the way. Rich shows up at 10AM. OK, I can live with this but the story only gets better.
The first thing the tech says is, “Boy that’s a big furnace.” I assume he means one that is bigger than I need. I explain that there is an addition on the back of the house that the furnace is also heating. He then asks if I have any concerns. I tell him that we have been experiencing a vibration on start up. He clicks on the furnace and says, “Oh that’s the induction blower. I wouldn’t replace it. I would just get a new furnace.” I look at him with a puzzled look but say nothing. He then hooks his tester to the wiring for the blower capacitor, or at least he said he did. I never saw him get rid of the charge in the capacitor first but maybe I missed it. He then says that the capacitor is getting weak. He again says that the furnace is old and should be replaced. He then goes on to say that the furnace is an “off brand.” It is an Amana and I proceed to tell him that that is what Elm sold me when I needed a furnace. His response: “Well I didn’t sell it to you but you must have wanted a cheaper one.” He then pulled the lead off of the flame arrestor and tests it. As to the effort he put in, here’s what else he did. He ran a wire brush once through each burner. He never pulled them out for a thorough cleaning. He also never pulled out the flame arrestor and ran an emery cloth over it. He never removed any panel to take a look at the heat exchanger. He just took a small pocket whisk broom and brushed some stuff off and then a wet rag to wipe a few things down. He then goes on again about a new furnace and these parts would be too expensive. One more thing, he never even brought in a vacuum to clean the furnace. He then writes up the bill and puts on the receipt and makes it very clear to me that there is no warranty because the furnace is “SO” old and too many things are wrong. He then gives me his card and circles his cell number to call him when I want to buy my new furnace. 15 minutes, $90, what a scam. So this guy is worth $360 per hour? That’s what $90 for fifteen minutes comes out to.
So after he left I sat here and decided to check out those “expensive parts.” The draft inducer, $122. The flame arrestor $7.96. The capacitor, $17.45. Just about $150 in parts, maybe 20 minutes in labor total, but I better be ready to buy a new furnace. I should have called and stopped payment on that check because what I got was not worth anywhere near $90.00 either in work done or advice given.
All I can say is that is the last time I will ever call Elm. If anyone asks if I know of a good HVAC place, I may not have one to recommend, but I sure as heck have one to tell them to stay away from: Elm Heating.

My experience in working with Elm Heating and Cooling has always been positive from installing two new furnaces and air conditioners to minor repairs and maintenance. I recently had a seasonal check up with Matt H. and he did a great job.

Love when Jeff comes to service my furnace and air unit. Very trustworthy and knowledgable person.
