EZ Pass New Jersey Reviews (188)

Review: E-ZPass has overcharged my CC a difference of over $2000 in tolls and "unused Tap bridge Fees" over the last two years.

E_ZPass has charged my CC $60 a month since March of 2012 for an " Unused Tapanzee Bridge Commuter Fee." I have probably driven over the Tapanzee Bridge 3 times over the last two years. They have then deducted this $60 fee from my E-ZPass Balance and charged my CC another $60 each and every month since 2012.

I have attempted to dispute these charges and E-Zpass's Customer Service ([redacted]) was rude, disrespectful and stated it was my responsibility to see these charges on my CC and its to late to get my $ back. She then stated that since I cancelled my E-ZPass which is now showing -$1, if I didn't make payment I would be sent to collections within 90 days.

I have my account statements from 2012 and it shows the difference of over $2000 from my Tolls compared to what they have charged my CC. E-Zpass ([redacted]) ###-###-#### stated they do not have access to review this and that the only thing he can do is send in a "correspondence form" which can take awhile.Desired Settlement: I want a reimbursement for what E-Zpass has overcharged me plus the interest that I paid on my CC during this time.

Response:

We are in receipt of complaint [redacted] for [redacted]. Per reseach of the account we do not see Mr. [redacted] calling into our customer service center in 2012 to request that the TAPPAN ZEE BRIDGE COMMUTER PLAN be removed from the account. It has been explained to Mr. [redacted] that any money a customer puts on New Jersey E-ZPass account is forwarded to the respective agency once that customer uses their roadway. This also includes discount plans on any customer’s account. In this case it would be New York State Thruway Authorties (NYSTA) that enable New Jersey E-ZPass to offer the discount plan(s). We forwarded Mr. [redacted] dispute to NYSTA for approval of credit in the amount of $1,554.00. This amount is the total of all unused commuter fees charged from 2/2012 to 3/2014. Per NYSTA the credit for Mr. [redacted]’s was approved for the last six month that Mr. [redacted] was charged unused commuter trips which total $357.00. Mr. [redacted]’s account balance was credited as of 4/22/14. Due to Mr. [redacted] busy schdule we were unable to inform him that he currently has 5 open violations for license plate [redacted]. The violations are as follow:[redacted]

[redacted] Mr. [redacted] can give [redacted] a call at ###-###-#### to satisfy the violation tolls only and we can wavie the violation fees. Mr. [redacted] can also call our customer service center or via our website at WWW.ezpassnj.com using the link titled “Violations”. If the violations are not satified within a certain timeframe the violations will be forawrded to a collections company. Once a violation is forwarded to a collection company Mr. [redacted] will be responsible for the violation toll plus the fee.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: I will not accept a 6 month "Credit" 1) I want to make sure I receive these funds directly to me, since they have already been paid on my CC 2) I am owed the entirety of this claim dating back from 2012. "If you owe an individual $10, $1 does not settle the claim." I will not approve until full reimbursement to me directly is approved.

Response:

Upon reviewing Better Business of New Jersey system we see that complaint [redacted] for [redacted] was not resolved. Per our response on 4/25/2014 It has been explained to Mr. [redacted] that any money that a customer puts on New Jersey E-ZPass account is forwarded to the respective agency once that customer uses their roadway. This also includes discount plans on any customer’s account. To date per Mr. [redacted]’s request the account was closed. A refund check in the amount of $20.00 was forwarded to the customer on 1/14/2015. Also, the violations listed in the complaint has also been taken care of.

Review: EZ pass claims I ran a toll. I do not run tolls or avoid paying tolls. EZ pass sent a letter saying I ALLEGED to be liable for a toll violation that did not occur. I was forced to mail in .75 cents for a toll that I did not violate. Needless to say, now they are claiming that I owe $50.00 in administrative fees. ABSURD!! This was on the Garden state parkway where there are plenty toll booth attendants. I went down to the Jersey beach with my mother that day and basically had to stop at every tooth booth attendant to make change and PAID ALL THE TOLLS!!

On the side bar I will file a 2nd complaint on another separate issue with EZPASS. The Clifton NJ exit has two booths, one EZPASS only the other EXACT CHANGE with no ATTENDANT!!!!!!!! This toll did not have envelops to mail in the toll money either!!! So NOW WHAT!! This EZ pass acts as a deterrent to travel.Desired Settlement: REMOVE THE 50.00 FINE.

Response:

We are in response of complaint [redacted] for Heather Lipari. Per research of violation [redacted] we see that the violation occur in an Express E-ZPass lane at the Tom River Plaza. On May 9, 2005 Express E-ZPass lanes were implemented on the Garden State Parkway (GSP) at the Toms River toll plaza, lanes 6N and 7N, northbound, and 10S and 11S, southbound. These lanes are located on the far left of the toll plaza for northbound and southbound traffic. The express E-ZPass lanes enable drivers to maintain a highway speed of 65 mph while the toll is automatically deducted from their E-ZPass account. The cash lanes are situated to the far right of the toll plaza and are separated from the Express lanes by a concrete barrier that extends well before entry into the plaza. We believe that you paid your toll at the plaza preceding Toms River and that you may have inadvertently gone through the express lane at Toms River. We see that the violation toll was paid so as a courtesy we will waived the violation fee of $50.00.

As far as determining which lanes an attendant should be in that is up to the owner of that roadway which is the Garden State Parkway or the New Jersey Turnpike. We do not staff any attendants at any toll plazas.

Review: I had ran an EZ Pass toll booth without a tag, and got a violation. So, I tried to pay the violation online. But, kept getting a message saying that the payment failed. So I called in to see if I could pay by phone. The rep had told me that their payment system was down and to try again the next day. But before getting off the phone, I asked to make sure that if I went ahead and put in a payment the next day, that I wouldn't be charged multiple times because their system was down. Sure enough, the rep assured me that there wouldn't be any multiple charges. I checked my bank statement a couple days after I had successfully put in a payment, and sure enough, I saw 2 charges from NJ EZ pass. I called in to see what was going on, and a rep told me that they didn't see anything in their system. She told me to send in a copy of my bank statement either by fax or mail. I wasn't about to jump through any hoops for them for a mistake that they made. Especially after I had asked if something like this was going to happen.Desired Settlement: All I am looking for is a refund of the second charge. It's only $30, but it's the principle of the whole matter.

Response:

We are receipt of complaint [redacted] for [redacted]. Per our records we only received one payment in the amount of $30.00 for violation [redacted] as of 5/7/2014. If [redacted] believes that New Jersey E-ZPass charged him twice in the amount of $30.00 please have him provide his statement showing the double charge so that we can look into the matter further.

Review: Re: alleged Parkway toll violation #[redacted], Asbury Park, 8/25/13

Although I had EZPass for years (w/ no problems), I cancelled the account when I became a FL resident. Had I only known what nightmares would result from paying cash during my NJ visits!!!

On 8/25/13 (having been used to driving the quick lanes from my years of having the EZPass) -- I mistakenly drove into the EZPass lane. I honked my horn, & a toll collector yelled for me to drive through & wait for the letter from NJEP...that it would be "no problem." When I got the first letter, I explained what happened & promptly submitted a check for the $1.50 toll.

My check has never been cashed, and I just keep receiving threats (& bills including a $50.00 "admin fee"). Although I have responded in detail, It appears no one is paying attention..and they simply continue to mail me threats. Although I have tried to call, I can never get through to a live person.

I just received another threatening letter, and hope your agency can help me.

FYI, in the interim, I am now going to have to deal w/ issue #2...dropping $1.50 into the receptacle on 11/18/13 at the Union toll and not having the payment register....now I just got my 1st letter about this (I was expecting it)....and will probably have to deal w/ the same administrative nightmare trying to get this taken care of. From now on, even if it means sitting in a line of cars for an hour, I will NEVER use a toll coin drop...and will ONLY use live toll collectors...to whom I can actually hand the money!!.

Thank you for your anticipated assistance in regard to Nightmare #1. (I may have to be back at a later time re. anticipated Nightmare #2).Desired Settlement: I want them to cash the check I sent them a year ago...and stop harassing me w/ requests for another $50 and threats to ruin my credit.

Response:

We are in receipt of complaint 9852246 for [redacted]. Per research we see that Ms. [redacted] received three violations ([redacted]). We did received payment in the amount of $1.50 for violation [redacted] in which as a one-time courtesy we waived the violation fee of $50.00 leaving two open violations.

The open violation [redacted] occurred at an Express E-ZPass lane. On May 4, 2005 Express E-ZPass lanes were implemented on the Garden State Parkway (GSP) at the Asbury Park toll plaza, lanes 10n 11n and 12n. These lanes are located on the far left of the toll plazas for Northbound and Southbound traffic. We will extend another courtesy waiving one more violation fee in the amount of $50.00, but in order to have the fee waived the toll in the amount of $1.50 must be paid.

For open violation [redacted] was incurred at an “E-ZPass lane” not in an “Exact Change lane”. The amount due for this violation is $51.50 which includes violation fees and tolls. The total amount due is $53.00.

Ms. [redacted] can send a check or money order in the amount of $53.00 and make it payable to New Jersey E-ZPass. The check or money order should be sent to 375 McCarter Hwy, Newark NJ 07114 Attn: [redacted].

Review: I am writing with regard to 5 violations I received between September and November of 2014. Upon receipt of these violations I attempted to dispute them on the NJ EZ Pass website as an NY EZ Pass customer in good standing. I expected the tolls to be deducted, yet in June 2015 I received a letter from a collection agency that I was in default for $357. I immediately contacted the collections agency and they advised me that they would return the matter to EZ Pass for review. I did not hear from anyone for a time after that so I thought it had been resolved.

On November 13, 2015 and again on January 25, 2016 I received letters from the collection agency again, stating that I was in default, now for $507.75. Every time I try to call EZ Pass directly I am simply told that it is in collections and there is nothing that can be done.

I cannot accept this, as I was an EZ Pass holder at the time all of these violations were processed.

I am having a very difficult time keeping up with these violations and it seems that every time I try to resolve the matters either online or on the phone I get nowhere.

Before I sought legal council on the matter I wanted to reach out here first.

I am willing and always have been willing to pay for the tolls themselves since all of this started. Thank you so much for any help that you can provide.Desired Settlement: I would like to pay the tolls due and close the case with collections for the additional fees.

And this company is not willing to refund my money to the Chase Visa card ending in [redacted] that it took the money from in the first place.Desired Settlement: To refund the $135.00 to the Chase Visa debit card ending in [redacted]

Review: Over 5 years ago I had my ezpass registered to a car not owned myself, I have not used this car since nor has my ezpass tag been in this vehicle since. About 2 months ago there were charges to my account from this vehicle. When I called ezpass they put in a dispute for me, girl saying it would not be a problem since the car wasn't registered to me any longer and I have not used. Told me that I had to follow up, I waited the appropriate time to follow up, spoke with [redacted], one of the worst customer service representatives I have ever spoken with. After having to explain to him several times as he could not comprehend what I was saying, he informed me that my dispute was denied, more or less blaming me since I had once had the car registered under my tag. Put in another dispute and asked to speak with a manager, said he would have a manager call me back within 48 hours, never did. Been over a month since then, called 2x to follow up and my dispute is still pending. There is no direct communication with the claims department which makes it impossible to state my case.Desired Settlement: I would like these charges resolved as neither myself nor my tag was in the car and I am not responsible for their tolls any longer. This is should be taken care of in a timely manner and not dragged out for months.
