Fairfield Volkswagen Reviews (31)

Mr [redacted] provided an estimate to perform a timing belt and water pump serviceNowhere does it state that the engine was not timed correctly nor does it state the actual cause and/or repair of the no-start conditionIt does not state that any work was done other than a basic compression test and a visual inspection There are no signatures of anyone authorizing repairsThere are no signatures of anyone from [redacted] *** stating repairs were completed If the engine was suspected of being out of mechanical time, common sense would dictate that timing would have been confirmed prior to performing a compression test for fear of damaging the engineIf this engine was not timed correctly, it would have failed the compression test The timing of the fuel injection pump does not change during a timing belt change because specialized tools are required to perform this service which lock the pump in positionIn addition, a mis-timed injection pump would not keep the car from starting however, a failed injection pump would do soWe guarantee our work for 12months/milesMr [redacted] should have contacted us prior to having repairs performed elsewhereThis appears to be nothing more than an attempt by Mr [redacted] to recoup his expense of a timing belt replacement to offset the cost of having another repair facility replace the actual causal part, the fuel injection pump No refund will be issuedRegards, Tony B***General Manager

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below MrB [redacted] and the Revdex.com The information I provided to all is not an estimate but a bill from [redacted] *** which I paid to get my Beetle runningThe bill along with the pictures and return of the parts are clear to me that timing of vehicle motor was completed correctly which also includes the timing of the injection pump by [redacted] *** A question to MrB [redacted] would be why did I have to pay for a service that left my vehicle disabled in your shop (the ransom)? Why not just call me and say, Sir your service is complete and your vehicle is ready for pickup? Yes, I understand a compression test was completed but disagree with MrB [redacted] comments I understand this test is completed by cranking the motor not starting the motor [redacted] did ask me before any work was started if your service department tried to start the vehicleWhich I say yes, as disclosed by your service representative and the fact my battery needed to be chargedSo MrB [redacted] can we agree that with your mechanic’s continued cranking of the motor to get it to start and my new trusted mechanic correcting the incorrect placement of a belt tensioner we do not have a damaged engine? Is that not a good thing? Again MrB***, had the motor failed in your facility would you have replaced it with a new (not used) motor free of charge? MrB [redacted] are owning specialized tools limited only to Fairfield Volkswagen? MrB [redacted] when I came to picked up my Beetle with the Auto Transport Trailer why did your service representative or service manager not explain the rules that I need to contact you prior to having repairs performed? Now Revdex.com is where MrB [redacted] and I disagree, He said “In addition, a mis-timed injection pump would not keep the car from starting however a failed injection pump would do so.” As I explained earlier that I was told the injection pump timing were teeth off, therefore the motor could not start and stay running MrB [redacted] when a diesel injection pump is failing it gives you subtle hints and warningsDo you agree? Why was this not brought to my attention at my previous appointment on Septfor an unrelated item? Again, the day I drove my beetle into your facility for a timing belt service appointment I had no issues MrB [redacted] are you calling me a liar with your sentence? “This appears to be nothing more than an attempt by Mr [redacted] to recoup his expense of a timing belt replacement to offset the cost of having another repair facility replace the actual causal part, the fuel injection pump.” MrB***, my Beetle is now in service again with the same injection pump as it drove into your facility for service of a timing belt If your staff could have provided a good explanation of why the injection pump had failed I may have been able to stay a submissive customer like those now and in the future I am still asking for my cost as shown in my complaint Regards, [redacted]

What would help is explain to me what additional information can I provide? The bill from [redacted] which I provided is clear to me what was repaired I my opinion it provdes more detail on what was completed then the bill from the dealer I had to paid to remove my vehicle from their facility (ransom)I provded pictures from [redacted] on parts not installed correctly [redacted] expllained to me the timing of the injection pump the dealer wanted to replace was off by two teeth on the timingThe General Manager called me a liar but the same orginal injection pump is still functioning in the vehicle [redacted] provded my the old parts that were replaced, which I never recieved from the dealer As for getting the dealer's permission to repair my own vehicle his staff never told me that when I removed the vehicleI have ask many questions without any answers from the General Manager, like was to tech qualified to work on my TDI? If I would have allowed the replacment of a functioning injection pump how would the timing of the motor and the injection pump have been resolve?

To Whom It May Concern,I have included my recent email correspondence with Mr [redacted] for your convenienceAs you can see we have made reasonable attempts to settle this matter in an amicable mannerAfter consulting with my general counsel, I took swift and appropriate action regarding the discipline of my employee in questionMr [redacted] emphatic statements of never returning, attacking other dealerships under the same ownership as ours, and his rhetoric on social media leave little incentive and very few options for me to assist him any further My employee admitted his wrong doing and is remorseful for his actionsHe has penned a letter of apology to Mr [redacted] , which I have held until this matter is resolvedHow we handle employee discipline will not be dictated by outside influence That being said, I am still willing to work with Mr [redacted] to resolve this matter Regards, Tony B***General ManagerFairfield Volkswagen

Mr*** has not provided photographic evidence, of which we are led to believe is in his possessionThis was requested by email on December 7th, 2017. Furthermore, Mr*** statement that engine timing was not set correctly and that our work
performed was incorrect, simply is wrongMr*** engine is referred to as an "interference" engine designThis means if the mechanical timing or the engine was set incorrectly, catastrophic damage to the engine would occur. Given the fact that Mr*** waited nearly two months after the fact to lodge a complaint with the dealership, he has not provided any substantial evidence that our work was done incorrectly, or that he has been out additional monies as a result of our repairs; we will not be issuing any refund for repairs performedWe stand by our original diagnosis and repair. MrB*** was provide evidence (the repair bill which is attached) by way of email (below) before contacting Revdex.comSo I am not sure why MrB*** said I have not provided proof of “additional monies as a result of our repairs.” MrB*** I am the owner of a VW Beetle L. I drove into your service center to get my timing belt replaced as it was due. After a couple of days I learned of the failed attempt by your staff to complete this task. Your staff recommendation was another $2,for a fuel injection pump. I was not satisfied with this recommendation, but to get my VW back in my possession, my *** *** Card was charged $1,on Oct4, (I will call this the ransom paid to get my Beetle released). The good news is that my Beetle is running, the whole timing process had to be completed but no injector pump was needed. The service man that completed this task said the timing was off and also my injector pump was two teeth offHad the car started additional damage may have resulted. So I am asking for a credit back on my service card for the amount of the ransom paid by December to settle the issue on good terms. After that date I will continue my pursuit of satisfaction to recover my full cost. (end of email) I agree with MrB*** on the first topic had my Beetle started in their place of business it would have been terrible. Would Fairfield VW installed a new motor at no cost to me? The injection pump was improperly timed during the timing belt installation as started above. The injection pump TDC ( Top Dead Center) and engine TDC must be correct for the engine to startThe injection pump runs off of the timing beltIf the injection pump was timed properly and the engine did start, the result would have been a failure of the belt/tensioner due to its improper installation (see the picture)Would Fairfield VW installed a new motor at no cost to me? If it had started the tensioner positioning tab needs to be seated in the oil galley plug to place proper tension on the timing belt. That was not the case as the tensioner was resting on the plastic timing belt cover. The result of this error is improper tension to the timing belt. Eventually the timing belt cover would break and the timing belt would lose tension completely leading to catastrophic engine failure.” Again would Fairfield VW installed a new motor at no cost to me later? Attached also is a copy of the bill I paid (to get them to release my vehicle) along with an estimate (which I did not allow) for another $3,for a total of $4,Again I ask MrB*** had the engine failed in their place of business or would they have installed a new motor at no cost to me? If they stand by the original diagnosis and repair, what does that mean? Was this diagnosis check by others in the Service Center? The question I have asked and still not received an answer to is how would the installation of an injection pump allow my motor to start? Remember I drove my Beetle in for service. There was a time delay as stated by MrB*** because I was trying to locate someone I can trustThe fact is I now am driving my VW Beetle up and down the Interstate to work on the same injection pump I drove it into Fairfield VW with.[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]
