Selling PracticesCustomer’s Statement of the Problem:
These sales...

representatives claim they're from the energy company and scam you into signing things then charge you outrageous amounts on your bills. I was charged over four hundred dollars for gas and electric for one month and I live in a small two bedroom town house. They pray on new residents and the elderly. I want my money back and I want them to stop coming to my door. They demand your energy bill and don't take no for an answer. They're rude and pushy. They shouldn't even be allowed to have a business.

Desired Settlement: I do not want them coming to my door or sending mail of any kind. I want my money back too.

[Your Answer Here]
The [redacted] of [redacted] did request names and phone numbers of individuals that witnessed the sales reps with phone, but I did not provide that as I only know their first names.
Additionally, one of the representatives give me his phone number, upon request, to put me in contact with his direct [redacted]. Upon contacting [redacted] I was told that when the reps were questioned, both denied going to my door.  When I challenged that by stating that one rep acknowledged to me having gone to me door and that my daughter identified him as the representative that came, the [redacted] abruptly hung up.
I then did not hear back from Family Energy for several days until a [redacted] in the [redacted] area called to request information about NYPD officer investigation the case.  Upon providing that information I requested the name and contact information for the marketing company that allegedly provides these sales representatives.  I was not given the information at the time and received no further calls to provide me with the requested information.  Family Energy claims they are not responsible because they state these are not their employees, but are provided by an affiliated marketing company.  However, these reps provided contact information for Family Energy, and Family Energy has provided me with no concrete information to the contrary.
As to the fact that there were multiple representatives on my street, that is true.  However I was sitting approximately ten feet away and no other representative went up the steps to my front door. In fact, nobody was near my steps during that time other than the sales representative in question.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Family Energy has offered NO resolution.  They won't even return e-mails and when you call there to talk to someone you get hung up on after being on hold.  Now, after receiving an e-mail from the company, I find out that this applies to our gas bill as well...which is actually in my wife's name.  I do not even have authorization to make changes to the gas company.  My wife called the company a total of 3 times yesterday.  She left 1 voice mail.  The 2 other times she was on hold for close to 30 minutes a piece and then got hung up on.  Our gas company can not cancel this.  We have to speak to Family Energy to cancel and they are obviously unreachable.  My wife wasted an entire day yesterday dealing with this and trying to get through to someone.  NOW....because of this.....we are going to have to pay AT LEAST 3 months of the over charges of the supply on the gas bill as well as the electric.  I figured up the total that we will have paid due to this.  From November 2015 - January 2016 it will be over $800.00.  In 3 months that is how much this company has scammed out of us.  And, if we don't get resolution with my gas soon that total will go up!  My wife called the gas company and as they are not authorized to make any changes, they instructed her to call the Public Service Commissioner and file a formal complaint which she has done.  She has also been in contact with a class action claims attorney.  This company has not only ripped me and my family off, but they have done it to so many others with their pushy door to door salesmen that pretty much force their way into peoples houses and have them sign things that they don't even understand.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I finally have resolution to the natural gas complaint - it was cancelled.  It took 2 complaints through the Revdex.com and 2 complaints through the Public Service Commission for this to happen.  However, this deal through Family Energy has cost me and my wife well over $700.00 due to their supply charges on my bill that are NO WHERE even close to the contract signed price.  On top of the 2 $75.00 contract cancellation fees.  That is an estimate of $850.00 that this company has made on our behalf for November, December & January.  I want some sort of compensation for the scam that you pulled over our heads.  I would also like to know how you can run a business knowing that you are doing this to low to medium income families who can hardly afford their utility bills to begin with.

Problem:
Family energy came to my door a couple months ago, right around when
many college students in my
neighborhood started to move in. I had just moved into an apartment where
it was the first time that the utility was in my name. The man who came told me
he was with the energy supplier that works with RG&E (making me think that
he was some type of official representative). He told me there was a problem
with my bill, and that there was a charge on it (the merchant function charge)
that would go away if I signed his contract and thus would save me money.
Thinking that he was with the utility and this was a normal part of getting the
utility setup in my name, he worked me into signing the contract, although it all
seemed more sketchy to me as the transaction continued on. The first bill I
received after signing didn't seem out of sorts, about the same as I'd been
paying before. The second bill was significantly higher, so that's when I began
to do an investigation as to why my bill was so high. That's when I found out
that the contract I had signed a couple months prior was costing me far more
than it was saving me. The man took advantage of my limited knowledge of paying
for utilities, and led me to believe I was signing a contract that would simply
make the merchant transaction charges go away, and thus save me money. He
failed to tell me that my energy rate would be significantly higher than it
currently was (it was 0.03913216 per kwh at the time and now it is 0.0997 per
kwh). The way in which I was convinced to sign the contract constitutes fraud,
and so I should be able to exit the contract with no penalties. I spoke to a
man on the phone explaining my situation. He was very rude and did not seem to
understand that the practices of his business are illegal and morally wrong.
Desired

If I could do a negative review I would! Total scam, my uncle looked at the contract (he's a lawyer) is super annoyed, and this isn't the first complaint he's had with this company! I want to cancel my account now, tried calling so many times with no avail!

This company is a bunch of robbers. I signed up for them in June 2017. My Bill is 200$ more than usual! Really?! I want out of this now! And of course there is no way to get a hold of customer service since they always have " higher than usual call volume" . Most likely due to all the people calling to get out of there contracts. I'll get an attorney if needed. Screw this bull!

I want to cancel the contract immediately. it signed about 8 hours ago. 07.01.2017 at 4:30 pm. please cancel it without any fee. I asked the guy that came behind the door to cancel it but he didn't and told I can't cancel it because it is Saturday! I told I just signed it and you can't cancel it?
he said I'll do on Monday by phone. I can't trust him. I just want this contract to be cancelled immediately please. the guy was aggressive and rude.

Review: On Sunday night 12/** around 6:30, a rep came to my door. I had never heard of this company before. She completely implied she was working for and out on behalf of National Grid and Fuel. She said she was there to verify that errant charges were removed from my bill and wanted to see my bill. I told her I got them online and didn't have one available and she told me she was REQUIRED to get my signature to confirm these charges were removed and not on my bill.

I ultimately sent her off because I was unable at that time to stop what I was doing and get on the computer to look up my bill and got a business card from Family Energy and looked up their services. What she told me was outright lies and this is horrifying that a company allows people to operate this way. Not to mention coming door to door on Sunday night.Desired Settlement: I do not want anyone from this company to ever come into my building again. You will not scam myself or my neighbors.

I do not consider this in any way a sufficient response. As a company, you should be taking this a little more seriously and be able to determine which of your employees was working on a specific day in the area and take action when they are engaging in illegal activities and fraud representing your company. It was a [redacted]. She was [redacted].

Review: A door to door salesperson was very aggressive and would not leave, my wife felt intimidated.Desired Settlement: We would like for Family Energy to not send door to door salesmen to our house, to not bother other people with their aggressive sales tactics and to live up to their representation to the Revdex.com about correcting the pattern of aggressive sales.I see that the Revdex.com has approached the company about a pattern of aggressive sales - apparently the company's promised efforts to resolve these many complaints have not yet reached the front-line sale persons. Please contact the company again so they are aware the problems continue, and perhaps drop their rating below a B.

Review: I was approached on October [redacted], 2015 by two door-to-door salespeople to sign up for this service, claiming they were going to save us so much money. Long story short - we have paid MUCH more than we normally would have with our Fuel & Electric companies. The primary door-to-door salesperson said that if we decided to cancel service, it would be a fee of $75.00 plus taxes. I called Family Energy's customer service line today and was told (after MANY requests for them to just cancel my service and to stop trying to keep me as a customer) that the cancellation fee was going to be $156.00. I refuse to pay $156.00 to cancel a service that I do not want. When I asked to speak with a manager (because the person I was speaking with just kept repeating herself and wasn't willing to help out at all) I was told there wasn't one available. I ended the call at that point.Desired Settlement: Cancel my service immediately. I am willing to pay the $75.00 plus taxes to cancel, but no more than that. I was lied to and haven't saved ANY money by switching to Family Energy.
