Garrett Concrete and Retaining Walls Reviews (29)

Review: In July of 2015, *** was contracted to perform concrete patio and driveway work and has failed to deliver the services originally offered and contracted. After numerous calls/emails, the start of work kept getting pushed back week after week. Finally, in November of 2015, while I was at work and no one was present at my home, a portion of my patio concrete was broken up and left in a large pile of waste concrete (I have photos and email chains to validate these claims). Once the patio was left in this state, he has refused to answer or return my phone calls or respond to my emails.Desired Settlement: VOID the contract and remove the pile of waste concrete. Send back my deposit of $761. Attach a zero balance invoice with the check and cancelled contract. Including a notarized unconditional lien waiver stating a zero balance. The contract has clearly been breached and *** Concrete failed to provide the services promised. I seek to simply terminate the contract and have the work performed by another more competent party.

Response:

The company has had communication with the consumer and has rescheduled his job for the first of spring.

Review: We hired Garrett to pour a 16 x 27 concrete patio. The work ended up being done on a hot and humid day. They started later than what they first told me (7a.m. was to be the start) They did not arrive till after 8:30a.m., thereby losing early morning cooler weather. The concrete that was poured ended up with rough exterior that I was told would "smooth out" after 2 weeks. It is over two weeks, concrete is rough and very patchy. Towards the end of the work *** was using a water bottle to add to the concrete to keep it going. From what I understand, the day was too hot and the concrete set up sooner than they expected. I have sent several emails and phone messages asking for *** to come out and look at the work. I was finally emailed on Friday saying he would be there that evening. No show. No return calls. I have been advised that I can hire someone to surface grind it smooth (expense) or have it completely torn out and redone. I also was advised to send a "right to cure" letter to the contract of which I am doing today. Project was $2992.00 and he has been paid all but 5% retainage that I now refuse to pay until this is resolved. He also stated that my husband should not spray the concrete so as not to disturb the sealer. However, NO SEALER was applied!!!!Desired Settlement: I just want a nice looking smooth patio that I was promised and have mostly paid for.

Response:

all emails and phone calls were addressed promptly and issues were addressed in a timely manner sorry it was not on her time schedule but, they were addressed at a reasonable time frame. We did have a another concrete professional out to look at this patio and he says there is nothing wrong with it, the minor things she is complaining about is as that minor. We did send all lien waivers to customer and supplier sent theirs. Like we stated before nothing will please this customer. We do our best to resolve issues in a timely manner sorry if it does not meet the time frame that the customers think it should be, we try to please everyone in a timely manner, we are busy we do have other customers and we try to get to everyone in a timely fashion which we can get to in a days time. Sorry for any inconveniences.

Review: The concrete at the base of the steps, attaching to the patio, is cracking and chipping away. There are also hair line cracks in the steps. Upon contacting him two times *** agreed to come to our house, but has never showed up. Now he won't even answer our phone calls.Desired Settlement: We want this problem fixed.

Business

Response:

Tho the crack is unsightly the step is not falling apart, we are on a busy schedule and if *** would call the office which he has not, *** would gladly put him on schedule.

Thank you,

Response:

Did not receive an estimate 5 weeks after appointment, even after repeated follow ups.

Review: Garrett was contracted to perform concrete patio work and has failed to deliver the services originally offered and contracted.

He originally performed work and was rejected due to code and standards variations. The grade was irregular, poured over the siding, and the steps were not safe.

He was given the Right to Cure (from Fall of 2014 original work) and the attempt to cure was rejected (April 2015), as it was not completed with the contracted finish.

Since the notice of the again rejected work, he was allowed to make a second right to cure, he has only promised to arrive and never show's up.

He has not returned to cure and correct his faulty work and continues to leave my yard in limbo.

Additionally, he has left concrete clean out (large pile of waste concrete) on my neighbors yard.

And has ignored my requests to clean up the waste concrete pile.

I have pictures and email chains to validate these claims and will provide upon request.Desired Settlement: VOID the contract.

Send back my deposit of $1350.

Attach a zero balance invoice with the check and cancelled contract.

Including a notarized unconditional lien waiver stating a zero balance.

Clearly breached the contract and failed to provide the services promised.

I seek to simply terminate the contract and have the work performed by another more competent party.

The work has been corrected. Though I wish things did not get to this point, but in an effort to protect my property and insure a timely response, this forum was a last resort. In the end, Garrett honored the contract and to their credit, they did not walk away from the project.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I contracted them at the beginning of April. They cashed my 10% check at the beginning of April as well. Work started 4 months later in August without any notifications what so ever. Not a "sorry we are behind" email, not even a timeline as to when they would start. I was then told work would be a few days...well, turned out to be a few months. Then, they forgot a small section of retaining wall in back yard. Only another 2 weeks or so to do that. After it was done, there were cement scraps all over. They came back to clean it. Well....kinda. I then still found cement scraps and even one of their rods still in the ground. The kind they use for the cement forms. And the whole time, when they thought the job was done, I was asked for the final check. The finished product looks pretty ok. The time to get there, sub optimal. The contact they had with me(other than asking for my check)---minimal. Find elsewhere to go....

Review: garrett installed our driveway last year -- we were given a guaranty that any crack that formed and some pitting concerns would be repaired -- we have been calling them many times with no results ---Desired Settlement: a drive repaired without cracks and pits

We did respond to Mr *** and we did contact the concrete supplier to see what we can do to fix his issue and it all will be taking care of in the spring. And Mr *** is happy with that.

Response:

We had Garrett Concrete replace our front, concrete stoop. Our first red flag should have been that he never arrived on time or just did not bother showing up at all or calling to let us know he couldn't make it. His crew made a giant mess at our house and left our hose running all day. When the job was supposedly done, we ended with a crooked stoop. We had to persistently call and email *** to get him to come back out and take a look at it. His first solution was to put a slush coat on the top to make it more even; however, we explained our concern that it would pop off during the winter, which it did. He then came back out and poured over the now crooked and cracked stoop, increasing the size and causing our steps to look extremely disproportionate to the landing of the stoop. We reluctantly paid him in full; however, we never should have. I am extremely disappointed with how it turned out and would never recommend him to anyone. Lesson learned - if there are red flags from the very start, go with another contractor.

Review: We contracted with Garrett the beginning of May to pour a slab for a basketball court and firepit in our backyard. The area was to include a drain and color to match the existing patio. We were told the job would be completed around the first week of July. The crew came out towards the end of September. That's problem number 1. After REPEATED calls, we were told weather was the main problem, even though we had a dry summer. Weather and equipment malfunction. I told the receptionist taking the calls - "you can't just show up, you have to call and talk to my husband. He needs to talk to *** about some changes." When they finally show up, I come home and the slab is poured. They were supposed to wait for my husband to trench the electrical. Now it was too late. PLUS, they forgot the color. Never asked us about it.

The solution to fix the color is to put a powder over it. *** told me that he would do it to the new AND existing at no extra cost because YOU WILL NEVER GET THE TWO COLORS TO MATCH. He told my husband he'll do the new one first, if it doesn't match, then they will do the existing.

The drains went it, they aren't pitched properly. The drain itself isn't flush with the ground.

*** prided himself and the company on the fact that they don't drive their equipment on customers driveways and they hauled the cement up by hand from the street. However, when I showed up, the mixer was in my driveway. Damage to my driveway. ***s' explanation was that the (meaning the crew) knew we were going to replace the drive eventually so that must be why they did it. That's not acceptable.

Now we are receiving invoices and the job isn't complete, we aren't satisfied, we have damage to our driveway.Desired Settlement: We want the color corrected on both new and existing.

The drain corrected.

Reduction on the invoice from damage to our driveway.

We want the corrections now - we don't want to continue to be put off.
