Gold's Gym Reviews (418)

[redacted] [redacted] came into Gold's Gym Arboretum inquiring about joining our club.  She...

purchased a single membership from our "[redacted], and she agreed to the terms of our transfer policy, which would allow the said member to join with $0 Enrollment and a monthly rate of 34.99 for 24 months.  Since [redacted] was a member of another franchise ([redacted]) she would not be billed with our franchise until [redacted] were in receipt of 4 monthly payments or surpassing 120 days. [redacted] instructed [redacted] to take the transfer paperwork to [redacted] so everyone would be in proper communication regards to joining.

Once we were notified that the member was not able to cancel her membership with [redacted] Gold's Gym we immediately waived all monthly dues to until [redacted] successful completed 4 monthly drafts.  Since that time we have attempted to draft from a Bank account according to the agreement, which has not been with success.  The obligation of the terms ends11/9/15.  If this consumer has relocated 25 miles outside of Gold's Gym [redacted], under the agreement signed, she has the ability to cancel her membership with a $50 relocation fee.  The new address should reflect a different address than what was used at the time of  sign up.

Gold's Gym settlement for this claim would be for the member to update banking information to satisfy balance, and I will waive all late fees that are pending for this membership.  [redacted]

I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I will not be happy until I am awarded two years of credit monitoring  and a phone call from the franchise owner. My license that c contains personal information was given to someone that had all of my personal information for more than 24 hours therefore golds gym cannot tell me what he or she did with that information therefore I am requesting two years of credit monitoring and a phone call from the franchise owner immediately.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined...

that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # [redacted]. Please add your rejection comments below.
Golds Gym has provided their lie-filled response well over the 30 day time frame they were given to respond. After I filed the initial Revdex.com complaint, Gold's Staff members began to harass me via email. A cease and desist order was also filed with their company prior to their late response. I was terminated on 9/24/16 by manager [redacted], who specifically told me the reason for unilateral termination was because I filed a (meritorious) complaint to the local health department regarding violations related to ventilation and their bathing facilities. I filed this complaint to the city 1 or 2 days prior to my termination. My termination occurred the day after they failed in full their inspection. Gold's gym failed EVERY ASPECT of the inspection. I have a copy of the failed inspection which I obtained through a FOIA request. I was terminated, as I've stated, specially for the reason cited by [redacted], which was "look, we know you contacted the health department." This was an illegal retaliatory action. The respondents state I was "warned" about something related to a shirt. That is demonstrably false. I was given no verbal or written warnings for anything. The day I was terminated for "having contacted the health department," I asked for something in writing, and the manager [redacted] refused to provide me anything in writing. When I asked for reimbursement of the remainder of the month I paid for, I was told "no." When I asked that they cancel all billing, and to do it while I was there so I could see them do it, I was told "no." I was subsequently billed for the following month. I sent multiple emails to make sure my billing was cancelled, and I only received a response after sending multiple emails with someone named [redacted] providing me a terse 2 sentence  email stating they took care of the billing. During the initial 30 days they were given an opportunity to respond to my complaint, unnamed persons from the [redacted] Gold's started to send me harassing emails, which forced me to contact a lawyer. All of the gym's actions were in violation of state law. A cease and desist order was sent to the gym. The timing of all of these actions are 100% consistent with retaliation. The response given by Gold's gym is a complete lie. And I say that with complete honesty. All I will say to those considering joining this gym is this: please know that you are susceptible to rude behavior, harassment, continued illegal billing after you leave, and staff that have zero problems with lying. Worst of all, you will be subject to harassment.Regards,[redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: The payment is not currently being challenged. If the refund is provided and, in writing, it is confirmed that no more charges will occur then the result is acceptable.

I was a member of Gold Gym for 1 1/2 year. I enrolled in no contract advertising and personal training services. I won one of the Gold Gym's challenges. I was expending over 500.00 monthly on services at Gold Gym. There was three different managers changes and two of my personal trainer were fired in the time I spend in Gold Gym. I decided to leave Gym because I need to move to Virginia for work related training. I notified my personal training and gym manager. Five moth later they bill me to a card who did authorized. I start receiving call from a collecting company for a debt to Gold Gym. I called Gold Gym they told me I have to sign out the account by internet. I was never told about that when I leave the gym one year ago. I try to sign out at Gold Gyms online and it does not recognized me as active member. There is not way I can sign out If I am not a member anymore. I paid the deb still continue receiving call. I was part of Gold Gym Family, spend lot of money. I expected more

Revdex.com spoke with a representative from the business who confirmed that the account was cancelled, but that the last payment that was in collections was for the 30 day notice. The last bill date was 6/1, which apparently did not go through apparently because the credit card had been changed. He stated...

that collection calls were made on 6/11, 6/15, 6/19, 6/24, 6/29. He stated a letter was mailed on 7/2 but may not have been received since they did not have the customer's updated address in their system. He stated that the payment was received on 8/12, and the later payment was not reported to credit agencies.

Dear Ms. [redacted],
We would like to apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. We have reviewed your account and have corrected the error made by member services. As of today, your past due balance has been waived and your account has been removed from collections. You will not...

owe any future dues and all collection calls will cease and desist.
Sincerely,
Gold's Gym Fitness Alliance, LLC

Revdex.com:
Months ago I wrote the Revdex.com about the machines at the gym, they said they would contact me for resolution (they the gym) I have yet to hear from them..

[redacted] is in a contract for both membership, and personal training. The signatures are on all documents, so if she was confused about the terms then those questions should have been asked before she signed either one of them, as the cancellation policy is clearly stated on the contract. We have...

cancelled her account with no more charges, but no refund will be given. Even if she didn't know she was signing up for a contract, she knew about the 30 days notice to cancel them, which is what was charged. We have also kept her membership active until the personal training sessions that she has open can be used.

I am confused on the issue at hand.  Yes the complaint is from a member that has been with the facility for four years, but she and her husband have now cancelled.  Their son did sign up for a 24 month agreement July past summer.  He did not mention that any family member was a...

member of the facility and we had no way of knowing.  We are under no obligation to do anything.  However I have agreed to let them transfer their sons membership to their daughter.  The transfer will only be allowed with the same terms of the current contract the son ([redacted]) agreed to when he signed his contract in July.
Thank you,

Kevin Gustafson

To Whom it may concern,
The rule of not dropping and/or slamming weights from overhead has been in place since we opened.  The only exception to that rule is when a member is under supervision of one of our coaches during an organized class.   We simply asked...

the member to not drop the weights from overhead.  This is dangerous practice when done unsupervised for the member and for members around them.  This is a standard rule for all of our locations.Up until this incident we had not witnessed this particular member dropping from overhead, maybe it was being done without the staff being aware.  When our manager noticed, it was brought to her attention in a very polite way by our staff.  The member became very irate and began cussing, asked for her membership to be cancelled and stormed out of the gym.
We simply complied with her request to cancel her membership which she was paying $19.99/mo.  Our membership structure is setup for pay as you go, so the member never paid for any gym usage beyond her cancelation request.   As outlined in her complaint she used the gym regularly and without issue up until this interaction so therefore there is no refund due.

I am rejecting this response because: I don't care about your "misstatements." I relied on Gold's Gym's statements at the time.

I have pulled the account up and have attached the contact history for you to review. It looks like the account holder is actually [redacted] and not [redacted]. The cancel policy is the same for every member. From the notes and [redacted]’s statement they were advised of cancel policy not only...

during the phone conversation but also when we reached out to them regarding a past due balance. The member stated he was aware of the balance and would handle at the club. On May 13th the account was canceled after [redacted] came into the club and completed the cancel form. This only leaves the past due balance left unpaid. At that time [redacted] came in I handled the cancel personally I again made [redacted] aware of the past due balance and he stated that he could not pay at this time but would be back to take care of it. I understand that the member is not satisfied with the process but the complaint file to the Revdex.com was not made by an account holder and owes nothing to us, [redacted] is account holder. Based on this and the fact that we have documented every attempt to communicate the process and the membership agreements terms I would request that we have the complaint satisfied. We pride ourselves in customer service and clarity with terms and would like to keep our record clean. We have membership agreements in black and white so that we none of our terms can we misunderstood.  If you have any further questions I will gladly respond to any email/phone calls. I have attached both the membership agreement and the contact history for this account to clear up an alleged errors on our part. Thank you.

[ I have not checked into the gym pass the week I signed up for the gym membership. There will be no membership id scans verifying that fact. I had called in this month on the 2nd for the 3rd time yes but I had not used the eversince pass the week I signed up and had called to cancel prior in which my request was not answered or resolved. Please look through your recorded phone records. You will find evidence of my calls from the gym in San Diego Sports Arena. I demand a 10$ refund along with a cancellation of fees that should not have been charged. Thank you]
