Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2016/09/27) */
Tenants lease ended months ago and she has just now started to make complaints or express concerns now that she no longer lives in the propertyTenant was expecting a full security deposit refund and was disappointed with what she received
Once she got her refund she started complaining
If tenant really had issues for years she would not have renewed as she only signed a month to begin with and then proceeded to sign another month lease extension
We do not refuse to take care of maintenance issues and would have immediately taken care of the issue had we been made aware of any issues
This complaint is not valid and it's pretty clear that she is angry over her security deposit refund
She did the same complaint with the tenant union, asking for rent compensation, after she she moved out and was disappointed with her security deposit refund
Her lease ended 7/31/and she received her refund 8/29/and I do feel its 100% related to her being unsatisfied with her refund amount
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2016/09/28) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This response is not only unacceptable, but it completely offensiveThis company is making assumptions about my character and making unfounded claims about the motivation behind my complaint, i.ethat I am just "angry about my security deposit."
Firstly, I filed this complaint with the Tenants Union well before I even received my partial deposit refundTHEY filed the complaint with Green Street on 8/29, for which I have recordsAs a PhD candidate, my time is very limited as I am researching or often out of the country and beyond either calling the office or speaking with someone in person regarding requesting repairs, I do not have time to file complaints formally or chase people down to provide services that they already promisedNor is that in my nature to file formal complaints because I have always been able to resolve customer service issues civillyMy schedule after moving out of the Green Street property has allowed me the time to contact the necessary persons to address an issue that was un-rectified for years
Secondly, they did not even address the fact that when I called for other repairs and spoke with the maintenance people that came, several of them reassured me that they would check with the upstairs unit to see where the toilet water was coming from and get back to meNo one ever didAdditionally, they did not even address the fact that a Green Street realtor was in my apartment 3-times per week for months and were asked about the bathroom by the prospective tenants they were touring and did NOTHINGThey saw the state of the bathroom everyday and did nothing
Thirdly, the fact that I filed this claim with the Tenants Union immediately after my lease expired is perfectly legal and validThere is no law or rule against retroactively seeking compensationI am personally appalled and offended that whoever wrote this response made assumptions about why I shouldn't have renewed my lease after the first year if this was a problemI renewed my lease for the following reasons:
1) As a PhD student, I was not in the financial position to move, which is frankly no one else's business
2) As a paying tenant, I trusted that the repairs that were promised would be conducted, and they were not
3) I was not made aware of the Tenants Union services for students in my position until my lease was expiring and my colleagues were aware of my previous interactions with Green Street
I will not take responsibility for Green Street's shoddy business practicesIt is clear from their overwhelmingly abundant "one-star reviews" that I am not the only one that has had these issuesTheir response was accusatory and full of blameThey have no interest in maintaining any form for decency in these matters
I am attaching photos and a video of the bathroomThe fact that I spoke with at least three different maintenance men in person IN MY APARTMENT while looking at the bathroom and that is either being ignored or denied outright is atrocious
I will be taking legal action regarding this complaintThank you for your time

Unfortunately once you sign a lease there is no way to cancel it, it is a legally binding contract It doesn't make a difference if you have moved in yet or not as you did agree to lease the apartment you signed for. We are more than happy to show the unit for you if you are trying to
sublease it. I would be happy to waive your $sublease fee but you would be responsible for finding the person to take over the lease you agreed to and signed for I don't understand why you would think this is fraudulent on our part as you signed the lease and now don't want to honor the terms you agreed to

This is clearly a disgruntled tenant who did not get back a full security deposit refund.  Her charges are not false they are accurate and she has been provided pictures, receipts and written explanations.  Tenant did not move out on time and was 3 days late moving out.  She left a...

lot of trash behind and did not clean the unit. I can provide pictures if needed but the tenant was provided this information already.Thank you
