H&R Block

Review: Very unhappy with service provided. I am sure that my taxes were not done correctly. I was quoted $200-300 to have a multi-state and one 1099 prepared. When we were done, the total came out to $557! After I told the lady who was doing them that was double of what we were told over the phone, she took off two forms that were not used which dropped our total to $470. I felt it was fraudulent and not a mistake that she left them on there to raise the total cost. There were numerous typing errors that she had to go back and correct. My city taxes for [redacted] were not filed because she did not know what form to use. She told me if the government caught it, the would just send me a letter. What!? There were a lot of things she was uncertain about and asked us questions I thought she should have known the answers to. We had to tell her how to enter things. I'm not confident our taxes were correctly done. It took two and a half hours to do all of this, even with H&R having done our taxes last year and having all our information. According to her, the "system" was down and she could not access our info until the very end... when miraculously, she was able to get it. The whole situation seemed very peculiar. Not to mention the front receptionist came back three times to give our tax preparer sticky notes (with sarcastic comments on them) to hurry up because someone was waiting up front. That made the lady doing our taxes not focus on our $557 service. Very unprofessional. When I said I wanted to hold off and not pay because I thought I was being charged way too much for tax work that I thought was not done properly, I was told in a threatening way that even if I didn't file with H&R, they would still charge me $400 and report me. I tried calling the 800 number on H&R's website to resolve this, but was told I'd be contacted 3-5 days later (by corporate) to discuss my taxes not being done properly.Desired Settlement: I don't want to be charged for tax work that was done incorrectly. Especially since I had to tell the tax preparer how to do her job part of the time. I'm not confident they were done right and will not pay for a service that didn't do the work correctly. I do not want to be pushed to another H&R Block location either. I am going to have a local CPA do them this week.
