IS the ID.me, Inc authorized to work with the state ***? I got an email from the *** asking me to use the site to ID myself with a time limit to act. IS THIS FRAUD? DO government agencies use these services? I didnt think so...please clear me up.

I've been trying to verify my government employment for five months now and it always gives me an error with no other option to verify. I've submitted over a dozen help tickets for the same issue and have gotten zero responses since March. I've called the phone number several times and left messages, however I've never gotten a response. It is literally impossible to get any help from an actual customer service agent. The website indicates that they have several options to verify employment, ie: video referee, email, etc.. However there is no option to actually select those methods. I'd say they have horrible customer service, but they actually don't have customer service period.

ID.me Response • Sep 17, 2020

ID.me is available for Member Support via our contact form at https://help.id.me/hc/en-us/requests/new. Note: The video referee option is only available for our Identity Verification and not for verification for the group discounts open to Military, First Responders, Teachers, etc. This member was attempting to verify as a Law Enforcement Officer and had a previously verified account. ID.me only allows one verified ID.me account per person. We have since been in contact with this member and his issue with having more than one ID.me account has been resolved. He will now be able to access the First Responder discounts that are available to him.

ID.me will require you to submit a picture of yourself via a text message but the message they send you won't have any kind of link in it except back to the generic ID.Me website.
What a horrible service. If you want to require a smartphone then make an app.

This is by far one of the worst services I have ever used. If I could give zero stars I would. I have tried contacting id.me to get my address changed and the response has been identical "I'm sorry, but since we do not currently mail information to our members, no update is needed on our end." Despite my explicit explanation that when using their services to access online social security services, the SSA uses the address they have on file as a mailing address. I NEED this address changed so I can get a social security card and transfer my nursing licenses to another state and begin work. I assume a robot is responding and that is why I keep getting a generic response that is unhelpful and repetitive. But there does not seem to be a way to contact a human at id.me. I have tried specifically requesting to talk to someone. I have tried calling but their phone number isn't valid. This has been one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had with a company.

I used this site when I bought my Laptop because they are a partner with Lenovo and I am a student. I went through the steps to verify my identity as a student, provided them with a class schedule which had all my classes on it, my full name, the upcoming semester, and the dates of attendance and my credentials got rejected. I inquired why I got rejected and they sent me a generic email stating I needed to present a document like a class schedule, student ID, or transcript. When I told them it was obvious this was a generic email and they hadn’t read my complaint since my document checks all of their boxes they said the document has to show today’s date which was nowhere in the initial requirements listed. If I could give them negative stars I would. The thing that really upsets me is I have my personal info to this SCAM company. Stay FAR AWAY!!!!

ID.me Response • Sep 17, 2020

For student verification ID.me does require current enrollment at the time verification is completed. Verification can be challenging during the summer months if a student is not enrolled in classes over the summer.

ID.me also has standard responses when a verification is denied. However, when a user reaches out to us via email those responses are customized to the users questions and issues. We responded to this member addressing his specific issue after he was not satisfied with one of our response; we did not receive a subsequent response.

His verification issue has since been resolved so that he is able to access the discounts as a current student.

Misrepresentation on the Social Security app. I thought this was a way I could get a replacement social security card because the offices are closed due to COVID 19, uploaded personal information thinking this was the social security office when I realized it wasnt I canceled everything and tried contacting them with my concerns but all I received was a email saying sorry for mix up. They never addressed my concerns on identity theft or the effects to my credit and the most disturbing part is that they wont delete my info for another 7 days which is quite upsetting and disturbing!

Dear Revdex.com Dispute Resolution Team:

Thank you for forwarding this complaint to ID.me and my apologies for not responding sooner.

*** ID.me account has been deleted and we are no longer able to view her account. We have a 7 day waiting period for account deletions to allow someone to reopen an account should they change their mind. This is especially important if a user has verified their identity at one of our highest levels. If a member contacts us we do have the ability to immediately delete accounts. *** did not request an immediate deletion in her emails to us and her account was deleted after the 7 days had elapsed.

ID.me was recently implemented by the Social Security Administration as an approved means of verifying your identity and authenticating into a my Social Security account. This does allow members to do things such as view estimated retirement benefits, request a replacement SSN card, apply for Retirement, Disability, or Medicare benefits, or update their address and direct deposit.

We also sent a response regarding her credit score and security concerns on July 30th. When verification is completed with ID.me we do a soft identity check. Soft identity checks do not affect a person’s credit score. (Ref: https://www.***.com/blogs/ask-***/what-is-a-soft-inquiry/ ) Please know that data security is our #1 priority and ID.me does not share, sell or rent information to third parties without our member’s explicit permission. A member decides whether or not they wish to release that information or to keep it private on a case-by-case basis. For context, ID.me is a federally accredited remote (online) identity services provider. Additionally, ID.me is one of only three in the United States of America accredited at the highest levels possible for remote identity providers. Per the standards and auditing criteria established by the federal government: https://www.idmanagement.gov/trust-services/. We have also passed audits administered by financial institutions.

Please let us know if you need additional information regarding this complaint.

Best,
Debi

I have used the services of this company before without issue for several months since its inception with VA.gov. However, as of July 2020, they have instituted changes to their verification methods that have made it impossible for me to currently log onto my VA.gov profile. The hangup is that they are now requiring a US phone number, not through an online service, to receive a confirmation code in addition to an email address. This is in addition to 5 other forms of verification, to include an independent verification app on my personal device. I am a veteran of the US Army living in Germany and working for the Department of the Army, and since I am living in a foreign country, it is impossible for me to have a US phone number. As there appears to be no workaround for this issue, this seems like a major oversight for customers in my predicament, and, could be viewed as an attempt to keep me from accessing my personal information. I have contacted the company and have received no feedback on any plan to correct this issue. To keep a veteran from accessing their Veterans Affairs profile and information is ridiculous, inexcusable, and I believe borders on illegal. It also seems like this company might want to reconsider the idea of having some real-time customer support through either a phone hotline or through a live webchat.

ID.me Response • Sep 17, 2020

ID.me allows users to use international phone numbers for their multi-factor authentication by selecting their country of residence from a country drop-down menu. Once the country is selected they will then enter their international phone number to complete their mfa set up. We also offer other mfa options such as the ID.me Authenticator app or Yubikey.

ID.me also has an identity verification option for US residents who are living overseas. When they are attempting to verify their identity they will see a selection for "I don't live in the United States" below the standard verification options.

After working with this member we were able to get his issues resolved for him.

I chose “advertising issue” because the two forms that I submitted to this company is rejecting both ID verifications from me -when it clearly states that these specific verifications are in fact acceptable on their website. I find it very disturbing that this company asked me for employment verification not once, but twice. They would not accept my school employee badge nor would they accept a certified letter from my school on my school letterhead. I included two web links with proof that I work at the school and I sent them emails from my school email address. They have my Social Security number which is what brings me to reaching out to you now! I find this very unsettling! I hope you can verify the company for me! I hope it’s legit and not fraudulent!

I have uploaded several documents to prove I am a student, including, class schedule, university ID, screenshots of transcripts. What a bunch of bull. This is ridiculous.

Darrin did experience an issue completing his verification as a current student but his ID.me account has been verified now. He was sent a follow-up email on July 20th with instructions on how to use the Student discounts through ID.me. His issue should be resolved unless he has further questions.

I have tried for 2 months to get someone to respond to multiple tickets for the same thing. They just tell me to use the automated answers on the website which doesn’t help because there are no answers for what I have requested help for. this company has no phone number and does not respond to email with anything more than we are busy and will get to you soon but they never do. I would think 2 months was enough time to get to my need for help.

Felicia reached out via email and her email was answered on the same day the Revdex.com complaint was submitted. Her issue with an outdated email address has been resolved. We do have a means by which users can update their own email but it requires having the password for the account. When a user does not have the password they require assistance from the ID.me Member Support Team. We apologize to Felicia for the time it took to resolve her issue. She has been able to sign in to her ID.me account since this complaint was submitted.

I tried to log into My Social Security.gov account to check my benefits status. I was redirected to ID Me Inc. and was very confused. It made it seem like I had to have an ID Me account to log into My Social Security.gov account. I am grateful I googled that and was directed to the familiar log in page with my already established user ID and password. That was very sneaky and I am thankful I followed my instinct to check first before I blindly went along with creating in ID Me accouny.

I have been trying to be verified for this company for three months and haven't heard a single thing from Thier customer service. Whom I have emailed and called multiple times in the past three months. Yet I get advertising from them as if I have a membership. I have sent my verification and cannot fee like suspect they may use it for purposes not legal especially since I have NEVER received any verification messages.

Good afternoon,Thank you for forwarding Complaint ID #: ***that we did not receive in the mail.*** experienced an issue completing her verification due to a conflict in information stored in official identity records. She had contacted us via email but did not receive a timely response. We have processed her verification as a First Responder and she is now able to access the offers she is eligible to access. Since this time we have updated our verification processes to allow users to submit additional documentation to complete their verification. We have also improved our email response time so that users' issues are resolved in a timely manner. Please let us know if you need any additional information. Best,Debi

I work at a hospital and have been all through COVID-19. I opened my account when ID.me had a discount category for hospital workers in relation to COVID. During the signup process, they required me to submit my SSN. Even though I uploaded my hospital badge/ID, they denied my application. Irony is, they sent me this email telling me to upload a badge to verify my eligibility. Well, why would I keep uploading my ID over and over? They also had other means like submitting pay slip. Yea, I'm not going to give you all my financial details on top of my SSN. I wrote to them and let them know that they were denying my valid application even though I uploaded my ID as instructed. By the way, I work at a very well-known university hospital, and my ID is well established online, so it's not like I don't qualify. There was no doubt for my eligibility. They simply ignored and never wrote back. In other words, they just collected my personal info without actually providing the service. Horrible business total waste of time.

We have no record of Tony creating an ID.me account to verify as a Hospital Employee via the email provided. We also did not receive any communication from Tony at the email provided. ID.me has followed up with Tony to try and resolve his verification issue.

ID.me Response • Jul 21, 2020

Tony has closed his ID.me account since submitting his Revdex.com complaint. Tony had reached out to us for assistance and we responded twice. However, when he submitted the request for assistance his email was missing a letter at the very end of his email and he did not receive the two responses we sent to him.

We will do better going forward when a user experiences an issue completing their verification as a Hospital Employee and they reach out to us for assistance.

We reached out to Tony in an attempt to resolve his verification issue but he could no longer remember what offer he was attempting to access and he was not interested in creating a new ID.me account.

Non existant customer assistance and no way to contact a live person. I have sent in several requests for assistance for the past 2 months and have not received one reply beyond the auto response that someone will be with me as soon as possible. Why is the DMV using this place for verification?

Useless group!!! Have submitted my documentation to show my state fire fighter certification and what happens? Nothing!! Oh, and forget about actually contacting someone about the issues. All you get is a canned response that has NOTHING to do with the issue!! Sad part is the number of businesses they have convinced to "partner" with them!!

ID.me Response • Jul 21, 2020

Lawrence reached out to ID.me and his issue was not immediately resolved. His issue completing his verification has since been resolved. He was sent an email confirming his verification was completed along with instructions on how to access the offer he originally contacted ID.me about. Should he need additional assistance he will be able to reach us via email.

Absolutely Zero Customer Support. Whenever you submit a ticket they email you and tell you to go submit another one. Been through this loop twice. SCAM COMPANY

If I can give them zero stars, I absolutely will. This site is a joke. I am a First Responder and needed to verify my credentials. They clearly state that verification of Paramedic credentials will take less than a minute. Well...after a week, they still was not able to do anything. Customer service sends same message that narrows down to "we are too overwhelmed to pay you attention, wait forever". Assuming that people send them sensitive information such as SSN and professional credentials, they have to work much faster. It is embarrassment that this company promote itself as a help for front line heroes but in reality abuses veterans, EMS providers and RN.

Elena was verified on the same day her complaint was submitted. Her verification did take longer than the time period we strive to verify in due to an increase in volume during the time period in which her verification was submitted. We have a system in place which notified her via email when her verification was completed on May 23rd. She now has access to any of the offers available through ID.me for First Responders.

I have attempted to contact id.me serval times. They do not have a way to speak to a person directly. Only email. This agency is refusing to verify that I am a first responder so that I may receive additional benefits with ***. I have sent them a copy of my Paramedic license. Not sure what the issue may be other than I won’t give my SS# out for obvious security and ID theft reasons. They have my license number and expiration date with the two photos I have sent twice via their website.

The McClean, VA Revdex.com website states I have to to through this Revdex.com.

Please assist with this issue. Thank you.

I responded to this email sent directly to me from Debi. I gave them my recommendations to become more customer service oriented. As businesses have had time to acclimate to the current Pandemic, it should no longer be used as an excuse. At the time of this issue, the problem was much less severe as well. So I still cannot state issue was resolved.

I was prompted to use this website by the enticement of a 15% discount on Zenni Optical. The California Board of Registered Nursing already has a license verification system. All you need is the license number and the full name of the person, as well as license type. Type those into a search engine and the license details will appear. Somehow nobody at id.me can give 5 minutes to do this. Why bother having a verification department if the employees cannot prioritize tasks and utilize existing license verification systems? This is just for a 15% discount on a pair of safety goggles for work. This is an excessive amount of effort. If you can't deliver services and are clearly overwhelmed with requests, please don't put yourself out there as trying to help "heroes". I didn't ask to be a hero. I just wanted to save a few dollars on goggles that I need to order as soon as possible so that I can work safely..

Puiyen was verified as a Nurse on May 1st; the same day her complaint was submitted. Her verification did take longer than the time period we strive to verify in due to an increase in volume during the time period in which her verification was submitted. We have a system in place which notified her via email when her verification was completed on May 1st. After her verification was completed she may not have known how to access the offer for Zenni Optical. We have since sent her instructions so that she knows how to access to any of the offers available through ID.me for Nurses.

If I could give this company a ZERO I would. That absolute worst customer support on the planet. I started with a state gov ID at ID.ME . Somehow my personal email address also showed up as a validated account. So they delete my state verified ID and force me to use my personal email for ID.ME account. Now I cannot get gov discounts that funnel back through ID.ME. I get some joker named Kevin. He is the absolute worst support person I have ever dealt with. Sends one sentence canned messages and then takes 2 days to get an update with the EXACT same I sentence message. Stay away from this company. You will not get any tech support. They also do not have any phone number. Kind of sketchy. What kind of a business down't have phone support.

Michael was verified as a Hospital Employee on April 10th and as a Government Employee on May 8th. Michael did experience an issue due to the creation of more than one ID.me account. He contacted us via email and we did not immediately receive some information we had requested from him to resolve his issue. Once we received the requested information from Michael we were able to delete one of his ID.me accounts and he was able to complete the additional verification for his ID.me account.

Creating more than one ID.me account can happen due to people having more than one email address. For that reason we have the ability for members to add more than one email address to their ID.me accounts. Instructions: https://help.id.me/hc/en-us/articles/360025873533 The member can then decide which email is their primary login email and then add secondary emails. This allows a member to sign in from any of the valid emails they attach to their ID.me account. This can be done anytime after their account is created using the first email address.
