Good Morning,The contract with me was for the siding and siding only.  You were aware that I hired a sub contractor named [redacted] Inc.  Will is the [redacted] and you spoke with him many times.  The $9300 was for the cost of the Hardy plank.  I paid for the material and Will and lost alot...

of money,  I brought [redacted] to your home.  You din't want to contract Sal through me and you hired him directly. The contract for the air conditioning and lights was made with [redacted].  The contract that was signed was with [redacted]'s company called First Source Home Solutions.  I have never installed an air conditioning system.  The money that was taken was from [redacted] and not myself.  You are well aware of that. I am truly saddened by any inconvenience that has been brought to you.  Regards,

Review: [redacted], [redacted] of [redacted] and Island Chimney, and I contracted to have aluminum siding placed on my home, barn and pool heater exteriors, and to have a [redacted] central air conditioning system installed. He sent his [redacted], [redacted], to do the work. [redacted] took a deposit of $5,000 as deposit for the air conditioning system and another deposit of $9300 for the siding materials and labor. An additional $9300 was to be paid on satisfactory completion of the job.

[redacted] brought another worker with him, [redacted], a person I later learned has a criminal record and is currently on probation for burglary.

Included in the work order was the purchase and installation of sensor lights to be placed about the home and property, as well as other assorted tasks.

[redacted] repeatedly failed to appear at agreed upon dates to do the job. Then he completely abandoned the job and also absconded with my $5,000 deposit, never to be seen or heard from by me again.

[redacted] then sent another worker, [redacted], to install the siding and complete the rest of the work in my absence as I had to [redacted]ve for Florida after months of delaying the trip due to [redacted]'s empty promises. I was quite reluctant to do this but had no choice due to prior commitments out of state. Every earlier date I made with [redacted] had been broken by him and I had no further options but to [redacted]ve although I waited in vain until the last possible moment to do so. [redacted] was aware of the situation as he was receiving many complaints about the conduct of his [redacted] from his other customers as well as from me. He also found out that [redacted] had told many lies about his personal life. Later, I [redacted]rned that [redacted] had been fired from his previous employment in North Carolina for bilking customers.

[redacted] "completed" the job but contacted me several times to complain about the insufficiency and inadequacy of the materials. In turn, I relayed this information to [redacted].

For the next few months [redacted] contacted me repeatedly in Florida and pressed me for the balance of $9300. He said the work was complete except for the caulking. Those, he told me, were in his office waiting to be applied to the walls of my home and that he hoped [redacted] would complete that final task soon. I said I wasn't paying the bill until my return when I could confirm that the work was satisfactory. He assured me that all was in good order and that [redacted] had certified that he did a good job, reiterating that he was anxious to have the caulking done so he could collect the rest of the money from me.

I called one of my friends who lives near my home and asked her to go there and report what she saw. She was appalled and shocked, then sent me pictures of many areas of damage and shabby workmanship. In turn I sent those photos to [redacted] who continued to press me for money without commenting about the photos. I told him there were far more problems than the caulking and that he would have to wait until I reviewed the scene with my own eyes before he would get another dime.

The property was left unsecured throughout the Winter months, all gates unlocked and the home was without the minimal protection of working sensor lights. They were unmounted, dismantled, broken and/or lying on the ground or decks with their wiring exposed. Consequently, my home was vulnerable to vandalism, theft, burglary and natural damages of weather.

Upon my return I found extensive destruction to the property and home. In addition to the discarded and broken sensor lights the workmanship itself was shoddy and shocking. There were cheap and inappropriate cappings that were inadequately and dangerously nailed, and inferior materials were substituted, i.e., aluminum instead of siding or other finishing products. I was alarmed by the scores of nails, sharp objects, wires and screws that were laying everywhere on the grounds, decks, grass and stones. Under the circumstances I saw that it would not be possible to have guests or bring my grandchildren and family members to my beach house until these safety issues were resolved. Nails were protruding from every surface, many of them rusty, including in and on the outdoor showers and decking and I was myself injured or scraped several times after stepping on them or [redacted]ning against walls.

Appliances were broken, outlets were uncovered or crudely cut out or compromised. Seams of the siding were typically not matched or tightly joined. There were multiple places where siding panels were broken, chipped or crudely installed. Most of the planks were loose.

(Later, I discovered that no house wraps like Tydek were installed underneath the siding as any responsible installer would do. There was no way to see this problem initially until the siding was removed. Another new expense, to buy Tydek!

In addition, the drip caps to the windows and doors had inexplicably been cut (which left the interior and exterior wall of my home open to water and mold damage. This too, could not be seen initially until the siding was removed. Another new expense, to buy new drip caps for all the windows and doors!)

The basement banister attachment was broken and the large outdoor shower completely destroyed along the wood walls, posts and flooring which were upended or off their hinges.

Everything was left in this condition through the freezing and stormy winter months. Upon my return, I found wetness everywhere--under the walls, windows and doors--along with unaccounted for odors in some of the rooms inside the dwelling.

I contacted [redacted] and insisted that he visit the property and inspect the scene so that he could see for himself what his workmen had done. He brought with him another worker[redacted]. Both [redacted] and [redacted] immediately conceded the the work was reckless, dangerous and unprofessional. [redacted] assured me that he "would make it right."

He asked [redacted] to do "whatever was necessary" to repair and rehabilitate the situation. [redacted] later estimated that it would cost an additional $12,500 for him to do the necessary repairs, remove the old siding and properly reinstall it plank by plank, along with addressing the other issues and problems. [redacted] responded by sending ME a bill for the old balance of $9300, plus [redacted]'s estimate! In effect, he expected me to incur all the costs while he reaped all the profits--and thought I should double pay him for the work while he paid nothing. At no time did this [redacted] indicate that he was responsible for his employees, the quality of their work and behavior, his failure to supervise or act when he was informed of the problems and how they impacted on me, my home and property--as well as his many other customers.

Of course, I refused. I counter proposed that we forget about the $9300 balance and in return he would engage [redacted] for $12,500 to finish the job. However, I wanted to split the $5,000 theft by [redacted] with [redacted] who would reimburse me for $2500 instead of $5,000. He immediately began to weep and moan that he did not have the money. I told him it was a debt that he would owe me and pay in due course, if not immediately.

[redacted] accepted the compromise but less than 12 hours later he sent me a letter saying he did not have the money to engage [redacted] nor to buy materials. He said it would take him 3 weeks or so to raise or borrow the funds. This was an impossible situation. The summer season is July and August. [redacted] was proposing that I give up the use of my beach house for the month of July while he attempted to raise money to BEGIN the work. Essentially, he would be claiming the entire summer--with no guarantees that he would ever come up with the funds in the first place.

To put an end to this misery and to my relationship with [redacted] I proposed that I would hire [redacted] to complete the job for $12,500 and, except for the $2500 debt he owed me) we would go our separate ways. Elated, [redacted] said "now that we have resolved our money issues, let's party!"

As [redacted] began work he uncovered more and more egregious mistakes that he could not have seen before removing the siding. The costs of those--including purchasing and installing Tydek and new drip caps--have now risen to an additional $8600, with no end in sight.

At this writing, my costs are $8600 plus $12,500 plus $2500 plus whatever new problems are revealed. All of these are the result of mistakes and damages caused by [redacted]'s workers and [redacted]'s own negligence, ethics, and failure to supervise.

This is not a reputably run business!Desired Settlement: Refund
