JD Construction

JD Construction satisfactorily completed a job, well done and on time, at my West Hartford home last week. This project involved removing the asphalt on my very oversized driveway, part of which we are partitioning in to a fenced-off patio area, and laying down a stone foundation. My house is almost a century old, and I've had a lot of work done over the last 15 years. I especially appreciate contractors, like JD Construction, who educate me about my choices and provide an array of possible options at different price points. This particular project also entailed some drainage and retaining wall issues and I much benefited from the D[redacted] brothers' thoughtful input. on how I might address them. Their price was very competitive.

The brothers were easy to talk to and up front with everything they said that were going to do

Review: There is a chip on my driveway which they promised to fix for me. They said they would come in late May and early June to come fix it but they did not come. I tried giving them a call but they do not wish to pick up. Also they were supposed to repair my brick wall however they only repaired 3/4 of my brick wall since some pieces were missing. So I went out and bought the missing pieces and called them. They promised me they would come and fix all my concerns with them however they refuse to come and refuse to answer any of my calls.Desired Settlement: I just want them to come and fix the issues that they promised me to fix.

I already spoke this customer regarding his driveway issue, he has been driving over the edge of his driveway and he admitted to me that he has been driving over the edge, I've explained to him that the driveway we installed is perfect which he agreed, but out of good faith I kindly offered to repair the area that the customer damaged as it was only a minor fix, but I explained to him that we were not working locally and we were also extremely busy, so I told him that the repair would be done at some stage of the summer, we all agreed and that was the last dealing I had with, nothing has changed on my company's end and we were doing the repair that he caused at no cost, but obviously he's opted out of this agreement

I am rejecting this response because: Obviously you are not speaking the truth or you're making false promises. The words that came out of your mouth clearly indicated the driveway would be fixed at the end of May and early June. Clearly I did not opt from the agreement you've made with me and thus speaking you've stated you have not been working locally is a complete lie. I've seen driveways completed by YOUR company in [redacted]; I am not the one who is opting out of the agreement, you are not following your promises that you've been made. We had our driveway completely redone. So lucky to have found JD Construction.. Now it is a beautiful stone drive bordered by granite blocks. JD Construction did a great ob in working with us to design the driveway. The job was done on time, workers were excellent and we are delighted with the end result. We continue to get many compliments!!

JD construction with James D[redacted] as principle did work for me during November 2014. They took up and put down a new driveway, looks beautiful. They moved and rebuilt a lovely dry construct stone wall giving my property attractiveness and more utility. They also did a stone step up and chimney work all was done professionally, on time and at a reasonable rate. Highly recommend.

Review: This company came around my neighborhood doing drive ways. One of the owners [redacted] gave us a price of $2400.00 first we said yes, than that night I cancelled them. He came back a few days later and talked to my husband and lowered the price to $2000.00 cash. On Nov 13,2013 they started paving, all 5 drive ways in 1 day, which mine was one of the last. Work to be done was lay new asphalt driveway using hot asphalt machine rolled to a solid finish. One thing The drive way is not smooth it has waves, I had them come back the following day and I showed them the mistakes that thay did around the garage doors, front path to the front door, waves. [redacted] the other owner was suppose to come back and fix it, and every time there was on excuse either he was on vacation or it raining, so he couldn't come to do it, than winter came and no sight of them. Now it June and it's hot and the drive way is showing more things that are wrong, the tar gravel keeps coming up when we drive on it, we used a jack to lift the car it caved into the gravel. It seems that the hotter it get the tar gets softer and crumbles. On June 23 I called the company and talked to [redacted] asked him to come and look at it, he tod me to taxt him my address, and I told him to write it down that I can't taxt. I repeated the address to him and he said ok. Five days later no show, called again on friday June 27 he said he'll be here on Sun 6/29/14 at 8:00 a.m. I waite for him to come and still no show.Desired Settlement: Fix the drive way problem or refund money.

I am going to make contact with this customer to try and resolve any issues she may have, but I will add that asphalt is a material that reacts to different tempertures hot and cold, and on very hot days it will heat up which makes the material vunverbal to tire marks, but there is preventive measures and advice that I can provide and hopefully will conclude this matter. thanks [redacted] owner

I was extremely pleased with the work JD Construction did on repairing my basement walls. The walls were crumbling from moisture, and my other estimates only suggested a cosmetic fix. They assessed the situation, found the source of the problem, and suggested a permanent solution within my price range. JD has a great work ethic. They kept me informed throughout the process and the results were high quality. They were very respectful of my time and the intrusion. They worked in my basement for a week and I didn't even know they were there. I definitely highly recommend them.

We recently required the re-setting of our blue stone patio and some repairs to a dry stack stone wall. We hired JD Construction to do the work. They started the job far earlier than what was originally estimated and they finished within a week. They did a fantastic job. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering masonry work in the West Hartford area and beyond.

This is an honest, very skilled, family run business. The men stand behind their work and make sure that everything is to or better than the customer's expectations. The workers are all friendly and efficient. I would and have recommended them widely among my friends.

Review: Contract dtd 5/3/14 indicated a finish date of 2-5 weeks, which would have been 6/7/14 at the latest. after a few calls and false promises, the actual finish date 7/21/14. On 7/28/14 after moderate rainfall, the driveway had excessive pooling at the end by the garage. It took many weeks for them to even return calls and acknowledge there was an issue. Initial response was that they would install a drain, however after consulting a town rep and researching, we decided not to. When we asked for a date of completion to repair, they said "we'll get to it before winter." We expressed frustration with that date and they said "look, if it was a life threatening situation, we would have it fixed sooner." They finally came in Sept 2014 and cut a 3 foot chunk out of the middle, then repaved over that stop and end of the driveway. Again, this did not correct the pooling PLUS we have crumbling and deterioration at the edges around that end of the drive way. We have called again multiple times, most recently AGAIN we are being told "look, your situation is not life threatening". As of 6/8/15 we have no date of resolution. After 13 months, what we DO have is a substandard driveway with pictures, cell phone records and texts to substantiate our claim.Desired Settlement: We would like the repairs completed by July 1st 2015. If repairs are not completed or are substandard, we expect a full refund so that we can contract with a reputable company to have the driveway replaced.

Beyond amazing customer service. After this harsh weather the driveway stayed in amazing condition and made shoveling a million times easier. Driveway was fantastic, made walking up and down easier. We didn't have to worry about grass growing up in between the cracks. I would highly recommend them to friends, families, and other people looking to get a new driveway.

We had an excellent experience with JD. In fact, I am writing this review from my porch as I look at my gorgeous new driveway and masonry work.
Our driveway and masonry was frankly, a total and complete wreck when we bought our house 5 years ago. The driveway is narrow, and on a relatively steep hill (for a driveway), and it's pretty long. We also had a stone wall that was falling apart and zero path from the driveway to the back porch.
That all has been fixed, and fixed beautifully. We hired JD not only to redo the driveway, but also build a path to the back porch (with bluestone) and fix masonry surrounding our driveway.
I knew I liked these guys immediately. First, and let's be honest, I love a good, authentic Irish brogue. Second, during our first meeting, they talked us *out* of a potential quite expensive additional project that we really didn't need - it would have been cosmetic only and we had told them we were trying to be conservative financially. They listened to that and respected it, offering more reasonable financial options at each turn. I have tremendous respect for any business person that does not try to push unnecessary projects and understands their clients' financial constraints.
JD took on this major project with enthusiasm, professionalism, respect, and most importantly, competence. From the initial digging out of the old driveway, to the laying of many inches of stone (and allowing it to settle for a sufficient amount of time), to the masonry and path work to the final, finished paving project, everything turned out exactly as anticipated and discussed. The owners take enormous pride in their work, and have improved not only our home, but now 3 additional homes on our block.

I highly recommended James and the guys from Jd construction, they solved my driveway issues and treated me and my sister like family, the work was great and so was the cleanup, I would recommended them to my closest relative!

Knowledgeable of their field, very polite, efficient, negotiable and flexible. Return calls promptly, good communication skills. Work done professionally. Thomas and James will be honest about what will work and what will not work, what they can do and what they cannot do either r/t their level of competence or field or legal limits.We had our driveway done as well as the walkway to the entrance of the house. Both came out well done and very nice. We have no trouble to recommend them.

I had a great experience with these guys. I saw the work they did on the office where I work and asked for a quote to repave my driveway. This also led to the repair of a stone wall and work on my front and side steps. They showed up when they said they would, completed the work in a timely fashion, cleaned up, and charged a very fair price. I recommend them.
