Jim Laabs Music Reviews (49)

We purchased a clarinet from Jim Laabs Music in Stevens Point, WI on 1/24/2015. We were told it was a great instrument and asked questions about other ones but persuaded based on the knowledge of the sales person to buy the Schiller clarinet. However, our daughter's clarinet teacher said the tone was horrible and it was a low quality instrument. When asked to return it - guess what NO RETURNS!!! Was never informed of that in the store, on website, or in person! The people we have dealt with less than helpful. WE can trade it in but no refunds. The price for a better instrument are much higher than other businesses. STAY AWAY!! I wish I would have read all the other complaints about this business before I gave them my business.

I ordered a standup bass. Jeff was friendly and informative. Jeff said he would throw in rosin for the bow. He told me they deliver personally in a van to protect item. Well, they arrived at 2:30 AM! As the guy was getting out of the van, he handed me the invoice. He tugged and pulled my bass out of the top of the van. He didn't ask if I wanted to check it first, he just jumped in the van and headed out. The bag was full of splinters of wood from the ceiling of the van. As I pulled out the splinters, one piece of wood slit the case bag about 1 1/2". Some of splinters could not be removed they were stuck in so bad. And the rosin that he promised was NOT included. When I called Jeff, he was no longer friendly. He was rude and actually said nothing.

I purchased an accordion case from Jim Laab's Music. The service I received from them was excellent. The person that was in contact with me was [redacted]. He was very helpful and was able to provide me with information I needed. I will definitely be recommending this business to people!

THE WORST
Heed the warnings you will find all over the internet about Jim Laabs Music.
The manager Troy [redacted] of Jim Laabs Music is RUDE DECEITFUL and a LIAR.
Jim Laabs Music had three Custom Engelhardt Upright basses with high flame maple for sale on their website, said they were in stock in store.I have all the pictures of the maple basses they advertised for sale. The one was a custom one off by Head Luthier Tom of Engelhardt. The price was beyond low,I clicked to buy.The one I purchased was not available after I purchased which meant it was mine.In the morning Troy [redacted] called me first thing and said the bass was sold but that he had Beautiful Vienna Strings basses just as good. I knew they were made in China and asked him about the Engelhardts on the site. He got NASTY and said to me "Do you want to fight about it?"
I laughed and said "I didn`t even raise my voice, what are you talking about?"
He just snapped at me "I`ll refund your money"
I hung up rather than argue with the rudest manager I have ever dealt with. [redacted] I have never been spoken to by a store manager like that for no reason. It was obviously a "BAIT AND SWITCH" tactic because I immediately went to their site after our conversation and ALL Engelhardt basses were removed.I also had to wait five days for my refund as it was through Paypal.
Thanks Troy

I bought a piano and it was delivered in late dec. with the understanding that after ninety days [redacted] would have piano tuned after calling to set up appt I am told now that they recommend having it done the deal was at time of purchase that THEY would have it done now we find out differrent I have written them and they will not respond

Review: I received a melodica (musical instrument) by Jim Laabs Music. It had some defects and I wanted to have them repaired. [redacted] at that business dealt with me in an unprofessional manner, not offering to repair the instrument and said "how much of this do I have to put up with to make $10?" His further actions were set to belittle me, like giggling about my seriousness about this product.Desired Settlement: fix the defective unit at no cost to me for shipping or repair.

Hello, please close the complaint as the issue is resolved. The business made a bargain with me on another instrument that closed the deal.

Review: In August 2015 I ordered an accordion valued at apprx 1,700 dollars. At the time of purchase I was told the accordion was not in stock and was going to be shipped in from Italy 2 weeks later from the order date. In order to make the purchase order a deposit of $200.00 USD was needed. I agreed to make deposit and wait 2 weeks for my accordion. Since September 2015 I have called at least twice a month to ask about the accordion and have been informed each time I call that they should be recieving the accordion in 2 weeks. At this point I no longer need the accordion as I already bought one and I am requesting my deposit back of $200.00 USD. Jim Laabs keeps informing me they will not return the deposit, although I never recieved or was given a policy that states where deposits are not refunded. I have been lied to every month and believe Jim Laabs just wanted quick cash and persuaded me to leave the deposit having no clue when the accordion would be in stock. I currently know over 4 people having the exact same issue. We were never told in the beginning the accordion would take 6+ months to be in stock. If that were the case I would have never proceeded to buy an accordion.

We have refunded the customer the $200. We have been given notice from our broker that his accordion will be here either March 23rd or 24th and we will contact him to see if you would like to reorder at that time. A PDF copy of his receipt is attached to this response.

I purchased our Schiller 5’5” CE Grand Piano in September 2013 from the Arden Hills store. The salesperson ([redacted]) was terrific. He made the purchase fun. That said, I promised him I would write a review of the Piano and experience with the store. I wanted to wait a few months to let the piano acclimate to our home and for an independent piano technician to service the piano. The piano arrived on the promised date in perfect condition. It quickly lost tune due to its new environment and needed tuning within three months. This is normal as the salesperson explained. The piano technician was as impressed as we are with its sound and feel. He also commented at the nice job Jim Laabs Pianos did installing the Dampp Chaser. Great product for price and great experience with Jim Laabs Pianos.
