They have only promised to look into the matter and have not yet promised to fix the problem. It has been almost 7 months that we have been trying to resolve the issue and they have still not promised to fix it. We were told that we would have to wait until the dealer rep came into town to take a look at it. So as of yet, there have been no assurances that the problem will be fixed. All along, La Mesa RV has tried to blow us off (it took them over six months before they even referred us to the manufacturer) so I do not yet trust that they will fix this, until they do.

Regards,
[redacted] I never ever refused to remove my vehicle from the property.  I even spoke with [redacted] on Monday and [redacted] on Tuesday to arrange the transport of the vehicle off the lot. It is apparent that the dishonesty that this company promotes continues.  I changed my mind when I tried to trade it in and they reduced the value by $12,000 which
really raised a red flag.  Is there more damage than they are
disclosing?  Why, the rush to get the vehicle off the lot? I do not want to go back and forth with my vehicle anymore.  This company destroyed my tire, right side of the vehicle, water hose panel, blew out the toilet seat and flooded my floor and underbelly of my vehicle (BTW, the manager did not believe me about the water pooling underneath the vehicle and then proceeded to indicate I should use my own insurance).  I had to threaten to go to get legal advice.  That is the only reason that they fixed the vehicle.  They were negligent for four months and I would not have known the damage if I didn't consult another dealership for advice.  The lack of integrity even during the repair process continues.  It is essential to get the vehicle reviewed by a mold specialist on their lot and have pictures taken with my presence of what repairs have been completed.  It is a reasonable request.  They also need to be held accountable for any mold repairs that may need to be completed.  It would take an hour to have the mold specialist come out and take pictures and access whether there is mold present. On the lot the dealership can't blame me for anything that might be wrong with the vehicle. In addition, they must be held accountable for the loss of time using my vehicle due to their negligence and repair time (minimum of $400). [redacted] indicated that [redacted] will take the vehicle to the storage unit which must be honored and [redacted] indicated that the vehicle will be transported back to Sedona when I find a location. All of these conditions must be honored as they are more than reasonable.  I have been very patient.  Remember, since day one this company has damaged my vehicle and delayed my personal joy in using the vehicle on four occasions.  I had to investigate each an every repair to ensure that the company repaired the vehicle in a quality manner.  The dealership has destroyed my vehicle four times which reduced the value of the vehicle and delayed my use of it.[redacted]

This is not acceptable.  La Mesa has now treated this brand new RV FOUR times for biting, destructive, carpenter ant infestations.  We have received contradictory answers from them also.  We were told by La Mesa that there were ways to check for damage without opening up all the walls, now Javier says “There are walls that are bonded and can’t be open without destructive exposure.” Furthermore, no one has answered us as to the extent of the damage caused by these carpenter ants.  Each of the 4 days we had the RV, we saw white flakes, which looked like Styrofoam (a common place for these ants to nest) piled up on surfaces and falling from above. There have been infestations in 3 separate areas of the RV, the rear bedroom, the front cab over, and the kitchen.  They have now treated it with pesticides on 4 separate occasions. With the amount of destructive carpenter ants in this RV, La Mesa’s unwillingness to fully investigate the potential damage that existed before it was sold to us, and the need for La Mesa to treat it FOUR TIMES now, we are still asking for a cancellation of contract for the damaged, infested, RV they sold us.

Thank you for considering my complaint.  Unfortunately, the response from [redacted] does not accurately address two key issues.  First, Mr. [redacted] does not discuss the fact that two La Mesa salesmen misrepresented the actual hitch weight of the Heartland Sundance XLT 267RL fifth wheel RV at the point of sale.  We specifically informed our salesmen that we did not want to purchase a fifth wheel with a hitch weight of more than approximately 1300 lbs.  [redacted] does not discuss the fact that we were provided with grossly inaccurate information about the hitch weight when we purchased the RV.  One of the salesmen, [redacted], specifically stated that the hitch weight was 1320 lbs., an acceptable weight to us.  As I mentioned in the main body of the complaint, the actual hitch weight turned out to be 1690 lbs.  This is a difference of 370 lbs.  Prior to purchasing the Heartland Sundance XLT 267RL, the salesmen did show us another fifth wheel RV that had a listed hitch weight on the manufacturer's website of 1660 lbs., and we specifically told both salesmen that we did not want an RV with such a heavy hitch weight.  We believe the La Mesa salesmen deliberately misrepresented the hitch weight of the RV we purchased in order to facilitate the sale, disregarding our desire and need of a lighter hitch weight as well as our safety on the highway.  Had we been able to access the actual hitch weight online at the manufacturer's website, we would not have purchased the Heartland Sundance XLT 267RL fifth wheel RV.  Unfortunately, this information was missing from the website and that is why we relied on the integrity of La Mesa RV to provide accurate information.Second, Mr. [redacted] continues to misrepresent the Payload and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of our Ford F150 tow vehicle.  The F150 door sticker specifically states that "The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed 2104 lbs."  Please see attachment "Payload Limit_F150" which includes the VIN for identification to verify this information.  In order to stay within the Payload limit, notice that the weight of occupants and cargo must be considered.  Therefore, to calculate a safe payload that stays within the limit, we must add the following weights of cargo and occupants:  Heartland Sundance XLT 267RL hitch weight:     1840 (actual weighed amount) (1690 lbs. is the dry, unloaded weight) Fifth wheel sliding hitch mounted  in truck bed:    220 Step bars + tonneau cover:               100 Tool box:     30 Passenger weight (one person + dog):   200                                          Total Payload: 2390 Note that the actual payload as weighed exceeds the F150 payload by 290 lbs.  Also please note that the RV was only partially loaded.  I estimate we needed to add about 50 lbs. of clothing in the bedroom area over the truck bed which would increase the payload to 2440 lbs.  To verify the above weights, please refer to the attachment "Truck Weight" which shows the actual weight of the truck (5320 lbs.) as weighed on CAT scales at the Pilot Travel Center in Tucson.  The attachment "Truck+Trailer_Weight" shows the weight of the truck plus the hitch weight of 7160 lbs. (This is the "steer axle" reading where the truck and RV hitch are weighed.  The "drive axle" displays the portion of the RV that is parked on the second and separate weight pad while connected to the F150).)  Subtracting the difference 7160 - 5320 = 1840 lbs. actual hitch weight.Further, I would like to illustrate that the "steer axle" weight of the F150 truck and RV hitch connected exceeds the GVWR limit of 6900 lbs. as stated by Ford Motor Company.  The attachment "GVWR_F150" shows the maximum limit the F150 is allowed.  I agree with Mr. [redacted] that the tow rating of the F150 is 10,600 lbs. (He stated 10,800, so he's pretty close.  See attachment "Tow_Rating_Fifth_Wheel_F150).  However, as stated in the Ford towing guide, "Be sure to have your fully-loaded vehicle including passengers so as to not exceed critical weight limits".  As we would be exceeding two critical weight limits (Payload and GVWR), this RV is unsafe for us to tow.  The maximum tow rating of 10,600 lbs. then becomes irrelevant to our complaint.  Also, we have been towing on and off for ten years, and we are aware of load distribution requirements on any RV.  This is why we primarily load only clothing, bedding and toiletries in the bedroom area above the truck bed in order to minimize the weight directly loaded onto the truck bed through the fifth wheel hitch.  This area of the RV is not overloaded by any means.    The calculations and weight list concerns that I have discussed above are not specific to the F150 or to the Ford Motor Company.  While the actual numerical limits differ among truck models, these are general limits that must be abided by if the truck is a Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford or Toyota. No weight limit should ever be exceeded on a truck or an RV.  It is our opinion that La Mesa RV and understand this, but are refusing to admit any liability in the misrepresentation of the Heartland Sundance XLT 267RL fifth wheel RV hitch weight at the time of sale and also how the weight limits are calculated.  As noted in the complaint, I directly asked the La Mesa Service Manager, [redacted], if our F150 exceeded the stated Ford weight limits.  He responded,"Yes."  It's pretty clear that even the service manager realizes after viewing the CAT weights, that our truck is overloaded.  Overloaded means unsafe. The $2,000 offer from [redacted] is not a sufficient remedy to offset the cost of $12,000 to purchase a comparable RV.  We are open to negotiation on this point, but the cash and own settlement must be a reasonable amount.         Regards,
[redacted]

The vehicle has been returned to La Mesa RV to make corrections to repairs.Thank you.[redacted], [redacted]

Thank you for providing the consumer's complaint.  The consumer in this case is entirely correct in how these events transpired.  We are absolutely mortified and sorry that she was so inconvenienced and her vehicle so damaged.  This is not something we wish on anyone.  However,...

La Mesa RV has taken all steps to remedy the failings and repair the damage.  All repairs have been performed at our expense, as it should be.  The disagreement occurs with what should happen next.  The consumer's vehicle has been completed for some time now.  Consumer refuses to retrieve her vehicle.  Our staff found no evidence of lingering damage or mold.  However, we have offered the consumer the following:  if the consumer will retrieve her vehicle by April 17, 2015, we are willing to reimburse her $300 toward having her hire her own water damage expert to inspect and review our repair and issue his or her independent report and findings. Moreover, if that expert concludes that further remedial action is warranted, we are prepared to listen and make decisions based on those findings.  We cannot commit to any action without a firm plan of action in place.  We want to help.  But the process must move as we outline.  1.  Retrieve vehicle.  2.  Hire water damage/mold expert for inspection.  3. Decide on course of action based on expert report. We are prepared to accomplish this.Thank you.[redacted], Customer Relations Manager, La Mesa RV Center Inc.

Thank you for writing us with this consumer's concerns.  The deal was cancelled on June 3, 2016.  It does take some time to process the refund and if it is not processed by now, it will be shortly.  What we can assure the consumer is that he will be refunded the deposit.  La Mesa...

RV does not keep deposits on cancelled deals.  If the consumer can just be a little more patient while accounting completes the refund, this issue resolve itself.Thank you.[redacted]CCR Manager, La Mesa RV Center, Inc.

Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted]. Heartland reviewed our case and after finding that we were correct in our statements and what the 5th wheel should have been equipped with, is having La Mesa fix the system so the keyfob will run the front and rear jacks. We are happy that Heartland took the time to review this issue. As for La Mesa and Mr. [redacted], as of this  date, they never have reached out to apologize, [redacted]'s arrogance is definitely hurting La Mesa's integrity.  As of today, our 5th wheel is at La Mesa having the work done. We truly hope this will be the last time we have to deal with that company and would never recommend them to anyone.

I understand the complainant's position.  La Mesa RV will only entertain 1) shower handle 2) shower molding and 3) bedroom molding.  Again, provided I am given advance notice to approve or reject costs, we are willing to pay for those repairs. However, I will review anew the additional items she mentions.  I will work directly with complainant on those items.Thank you.[redacted]CR Manager, La Mesa RV Center Inc.

It is regretful that Mr. [redacted] has experienced issues with his Trail Runner.  His Trail Runner comes with a manufacturer's limited warranty.  Both the manufacturer and La Mesa RV are more than happy to assist Mr. [redacted] in having proper repairs made to his Trail Runner.  Mr....

[redacted]'s request for a refund is not a remedy available under the warranty or purchase agreement.  At such a time as Mr. [redacted] is willing, he need only contact his local service center and we'll be happy to assist with repairs.Thank you.[redacted]

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.  As the consumer noted, we completely refunded her money and she incurred no expense.  We attempted to accommodate the consumer as much as possible under the circumstances.  La Mesa RV did not see or touch her surge protector or...

bike lock.  The consumer's vehicle contains many articles and its possible she simply misplaced it.  In addition, we clearly make our customers aware that we are not responsible for articles in their vehicles.  La Mesa RV is not responsible and there is nothing we can do for her.Thank you.[redacted]CCR Manager, La Mesa RV Center Inc.
